    60 FPS, on an iPhone:

    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/08/12/id-shows-off-rage-running-on-iphone-4-at-60-frames-per-second/

    Cool. :hip:

Mind you, whilst it's pretty and all, what will the controls be like? The gyroscope would be cool, but I cant see jiggling the phone back and forth during a fight would help, as it makes viewing the action more difficult.

Yeah, my experience with Duke 3D was tarnished by a control system that needed a serious kick in the teeth.

Get some decent control schemes sorted and that'll make a nice base for some FPS action.

It would be interesting to see a third party manufacturer (or even Apple themselves) come out with a miniature bluetooth controller for the Iphone, or maybe one that plugs into the 30 pin dock connector and acts as a stand at the same time. I think the added control of tactile buttons alongside touchscreen controls could open up the games market for the phone dramatically. I'm in no way saying that the phone's lack of buttons is a problem at the moment, because as we all know there are plenty of amazing developers out there who have written and released great games for it with very intuitive touch controls, but I think it could make a big impact for something like this to come along.

It's already, indirectly, caused me hassle.

DHL are useless, apparently, at delivering anything. Package returned to base undelivered, for no reason. No attempted delivery to either of my addresses.

Edit: Phone arrived, micro sim didn't. Off to the O2 store tomorrow!

A question for you iphone guru's.

Is there a task manager or task killer for the iphone? The fiancées sat nav function is a real battery killer and with the multitasking in iOS4 it does not turn off when you leave the app.

Double click the home button to bring up the multi task springboard.

Tap and hold any icon in the multi task springboard. They all start to wiggle (just like when you want to move an icon), but all the apps will have a "stop sign" badge, rather than the X you get when you move an app.

Tap the icon of the app you want to kill / stop. It will disapear from the multi-task springboard

When you're done killing apps, hit the home button to come out of that mode.

Two ways to properly quit the App.

The task manager way is to double tap the home button and then, when you see your currently 'open' apps you hold down on one of them until they begin wobbling and you can exit them with the little red symbol in the top left.

The more direct approach is the same way you've always been able to force quit apps on the iPhone. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until you see the Power slider, then hold the home button. It quits back to the springboard.

EDIT: Well, GOO beat me to the punch but at least I got in that bit about Force Quitting ;)

    which navigation app is it?

for TomTom, you need to make sure you've gone into menu, route options then clear route.

i do that every time, never had problem with tomtom in the background.

CoPilot Live. Clearing the route cancels it but its a time consuming process. An exit sat nav button in the app would be better.

Might as well put it in here, what's expected from today's Apple event?

    New iPod Touch
    • Almost certainly front-facing camera for FaceTime
    • More than likely a Retina Display-ish screen (I still hate that term)
    • Probably a rear camera as well, hopefully the one from the iPhone4
    • Possibly even a 3G circuit a-la iPad 3G, there are rumours of some prototypes being around
    New iPod Nano/Shuffle
    • 3*3cm screen like a nano but probably the size and design of a 2G Shuffle based on the cases floating around
    • Touch screen - dinky proper CoverFlow device!
    • Universal Dock connector, probably hardware volume buttons and a clip on the back
What else could be mentioned? Possibly a $99 iOS4-based AppleTV. iOS4 on the iPad? A Lady Gaga iPod? Logic and GarageBand updates are also a possibility.

The show starts at 6pm UK time, you can stream it live if you have an Apple Device

if iPod touch gets 3G and dual camera, there will no longer be any point for an iPhone, just wait a few days for a jailbroken iPod touch phone app.

i don't think Apple will cannibalise its product line like that.

iOS based Apple TV with 10 foot GUI and iOS integration, iOS 4 on iPad, some from of streaming service (music or video unsure) and perhaps a statement on that they've fully fixed antenna problem.

Giz are liveblogging with a stream as well: http://live.gizmodo.com/. I'll put some updates in here of the interesting bits.

So far we have iOS4.1 - Proximity sensor and various other fixes, HDR photo capability (dunno exactly how that will work). edit - it's bracketing, 3 exposures

edit2 - also the Game Centre/er API - think xbox Live.
edit3 - sneak peek of iOS4.2 for the iPad - will introduce multitasking, wireless printing, the Game Centre etc
edit4 - new Shuffle and Nano - pretty similar but the nano is slightly bigger and has a multi touch screen, the Shuffle going back to having buttons ripped from the 2G shuffle. Looks pretty much the same as a 2G shuffle actually...here's the new nano anyway:

edit5 - now for the Touch. Confirmed rear camera and retina display, the same as in the iPhone4  A4 chip, 3-axis gyroscope, iOS4.1...it's an iP4 without the phone, excellent. Also confirmed front camera and FaceTime.

edit6 - iTunes 10 is launching as well. New logo...and I have to go out :duh:
