mvagusta, you might as well just get an itunes account - you'll need it to download apps and stuff like that (although you don't actually need it to just transfer photos).

As an aside, Find My iPhone doesn't seem to work to well - i'm stuck at a login page on the computer. I login once, it says 'we need to verify your password'. I log in again, it loops back to the last page.

 

Find my iPhone working here... And I don't seem to have upside down weather icons either. But that could be down to the fact I have either snow or sun icons showing for the next week

Just used the AirPrint hacktivator to enable printing - very easy to use, and it works like a charm (MrsGOO will find it useful when she gets her pad shaped iChristmas Present). If you do use it, remember to delete your printers and then re-add them and re-share them after Hacktivation.

 

iFunBox allows you to transfer files to and from iPhone's without jailbreaking.

really want to try out locate phone feature, but 4.2 untethered jailbreak isn't out yet

 

Thanks for that I tried iFunBox... and it looks perfect But with me being a noob and all, it's not working for me I can see all of the phone's folders, and I can copy files onto them... but they don't seem to be actually transferring to the phone It's like as if there's some sort of sync function i'm not performing

 

What kind of files do you want to transfer? AFAIK you have to transfer files to specific apps, like if you want to watch a video on VLC you have to open iTunes, go to your iPhone's tab, apps tab, drag+drop into the VLC tab..

I can get photos and videos on there with itunes, but I can't copy audio mp4 or mp3 - I've got an mp3 player in the car and at home, so i'd never want to play music from the phone, i'd just like to put a few ringtones on there I don't want to register or download anything from itunes, I just want to copy a few files from my pc to the iphone4

Still haven't figured out how to get iFunBox to copy anything over to this iphone I don't want to jailbreak it either, I think I just need to figure out iFunBox or find an alternative program.

 

You just drag MP3 files into your iTunes library, make sure your iPhone is set to 'manually manage', and just drag the MP3s into your iPhone.. Not sure about ringtones though.

 

I had to install iBooks to be able to read anything... so I had to register It's not all bad however, there were a some good free games for my boy to play.

Drag and drop via itunes works dunno why they couldn't just have some sort of file browser from within itunes

I didn't have to convert, just rename my mp4 audio files to m4r so I could use them as ringtones... but I can only use a custom ringtone for phone calls so I'm stuck with one of the crappy standard ones for sms and email I think I need to jailbreak this damned thing but I don't really wanna do that since it's a company phone

 

You could get the files app?

 

I forgot to mention, I downloaded the freeware calibre to convert my docs to epubs and give them covers, then dragged them over to the phone with itunes.

I'm glad I didn't have to give my credit card details to register with itunes, and there's more free software/apps than i'd want. I like itorch4, ilevel and ibooks is nice and quick to navigate books, the phone is generally quick which is a nice positive attribute Some businesses from banks to transport even have some good free apps.

This iphone4 is growing on me, and my 3.5yo likes playing games on it - he's getting high scores already, so i'll have to download a few more soon I just need to sort out this bs where I can't load custom sms and email tones without having to jailbreak the thing

 

For those 3GS owners who wish to get the free find my iphone to work, I have found a way. I set up a new mobile me/apple id on my iphone 4, confirmed it via email then used my wifes 3GS and added it through the mobile me account on hers and voila, it works
