Post your theories of life, the universe and how to kill David Blaine through teleportation transmogrification etc. here for all to discuss, laugh, and be amused at. Heres an example, of mine: Time, as it exists Time is a particle, I would assume, as the faster you go, the slower you become. IE. you collide with more 'time particles'; Futher reason why I believe this is that it has been theorised (and proven, I believe.. somewhere) that black holes slow time around its vortex. IE, the closer you get, the slower you get. This would make sense to my theory as the black hole would be sucking in a huge amount of time particles - therfore, causing you to collide with them, thefore causing you to slow down. If I am correct, this means that it would not be possible to go either forward or backward in time, but you could theoretically create a bubble of time which allows you to 'feel' like your going to the future - relatively. I dont really belive entirely in this theory, but its an example... Remember, the theory doesnt have to make sense, or even be about something so vast as time. It could be something far more important - like politics . Well you get the idea. note to scientists: feel free to baffle us by explaining away why we are wrong and why you get paid to say so
Maybe you ought to put a warning on this thread - anyone who's been is going to have their head majorly blagged by reading this. Time is a continuum or a medium, not a particle.
1- How about that we and everything around us don't exist in reality, but are all characters in a novel being written by some "godly" creature and when he/she/it finishes writing it, time will cease to exist for us? 2- Vision: Since everyone is different, maybe what I see as red, you see as blue and someone else sees as green. 3- The human race is but a grand exparament started by alian life in another part of the galaxy. Something like an ant farm type of thing. 4- I am actually asleep and dreaming my existance in this reality and thus no one else exists but me. The only way that people come into existance is when I meet you in my dream. After that, you don't exist anymore. Shall I go on? /me is in a funky mood (see this thread why.
Liquid K9... your theory is quite quite odd! It doesn't exactly seem like it could be that way without us knowing it already, but it amused me anyway. The stuff around black holes is approx correct I think, but to fully understand it I think you need GR... so it'd require someone like Cheese to explain it better. leet_llama: I know I've had this discussion with people before, but is it a continuum or is it discrete? I don't really know, and I suspect the big time physicists aren't in agreement about it yet either. My personal theory is probably a little out there too, and I offer no proof or particular reasoning behind it, I suspect matter is actually disturbances in some field or other... and it also disturbs gravitational fields in the process. *shrug* I'm starting to get the impression someone put something in my beer 2 + 2 = 5. For various values of 2. doublethink. Alaric.
I 've been thinking of this since i was 14 and when i saw your words i started shivering. I can't decide if these are your words or it's me dreaming of you typing that ....
Your theory is interesting, but what about the wave-like properties of matter? Combining the equation for mass-energy equivalence (E=mc2) with that for the energy of a photon (E = hv = hc/wavelength), de Broglie derived an equation for the wavelength of any particle of mass -- wether planet, baseball, or electron moving at speed u: wavelength=(h/mu). According to this equation, matter behaves as though it moves as a wave. Also an objects wavelegnth is inversely proportional to its mass, so heavy objects have wavelengths that are many orders of magnitude smaller than the object itself. So the faster you go the more "wave-like" you become. How this can relate to time i dont know but it seems that as you approach the speed of light its hard for matter to exist in the form that we know it as.
I beleive the universe follows a pattern of the sub-atomic level where energy and matter interact in a predictable manner.
|\|00000000000000000 0|\|3 listens to me!!!!!!!!!!! Al gore invented the internet and the world too dammit I tell you. Time is the square root of the numbers I spent playing diablo II * the number of times al gore contested the election and insisted on recounts!
How do you explain gravity? Quantim mechanics mentions nothing of it. Or do you use a combination of things like newtonian physics and the theory of relativity to explain things? i wish knew how everything worked =)
The earth is just a Neutron of a Hydrogen atom, with the electron its moon circling, part of some molecule in an insanely large universe...
how about...... nothing exists untill it is seen by someone, bet you cant disproove that edit/ or we are all a simulation of life, currently being run on a computer by some real humans who want to find out how the human race dies out
I've always had a theory similar to Dad's, that nothing exists but me. All people around me and the world as I see it are created in my imagination (even Bit-tech...) Of course, this is very hard to explain to others, as they think "I know that I exist, thus Bard's theory must be wrong". Actually, long time before I saw the Matrix, I though that all humans might me just sleeping somewhere (maybe in heaven?) and just dreaming about the world. So basically I thoght of a huge floor with lots of humans laying on it, dreaming. And when you wake up from the dream, you die. I didn't think that out power was used to power machines, though. (That made it kind of freaky to see the matrix...)
