    Swinging shindig, box-social, get together, bust, kegger or soiree - whatever the name, we all host or attend partys every so often, what music do YOU like to hear at partys ? Is it the wild dance moves of MC Hammer you look to dance to or the more mellow side of the tracks you prefer to sup your kitchen sink (drink :p) to ?

    So I present a comprehensive list compiled by the members of bit-tech of awesome must have party tunes to deck out your playlist with style. Remember when suggesting phat tracks that party playlists are "for the greater good of the party" tunes, thus this isn't an "artist x sucks" thread, though heavily disliked (or stated innappropriate) songs will be asterisked ( * ) - likewise, stuff that is a must at a party and you will be LYNCHED without is marked with a double eye thing ( ^^ ), recent additions have an arrow (->) in front of them...

    (sorted into alphabetical order)

    More Recent Stuff
    Christina Aguliera - Candyman
    Lily Allen - smile

    Older Stuff
    Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi
    Beyonce - Crazy in love ( ^^ )
    Britney Spears - Toxic
    Gnarles Barclay - Crazy ( ^^ )
    Gwen Stefani - What you waiting for
    Robbie Williams - Rock DJ
    Robbie Williams - Let me entertain you

    90s-'02ish Stuff
    (->)Aerosmith - Don't Wanna Miss A Thing
    Beastie Boys - Intergalactic
    (->)Blur - Song 2
    Blur - There's no other way
    Brian Adams - Everything I do
    Chilly Peppers - Around the world
    (->)Chilly Peppers - Under the Bridge
    Fatboy Slim - The rockastella Skank
    Fatboy Slim - Praise you
    Fatboy Slim - Right here, Right now
    Fatboy Slim - Weapons of Choice
    Fatboy Slim - I see you baby
    (->)Greenday - Basket Case
    (->)Greenday - Long View
    (->)Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
    (->)Goo Goo Dolls - Slide
    Gorillaz - 19-2000
    Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
    (->)Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitter
    (->)Janes Addiction - Been caught Stealing
    (->)Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
    (->)Metallica - Sandman
    (->)Nirvana - In bloom
    (->)Nirvana - Lithium
    Nirvana - Smells like teen spirit
    (->)Nine Inch Nails - Closer
    No Doubt - Don't Speak
    Oasis - Wonderwall
    Ocean Color Scene - Hundred Mile High
    Ocean Color Scene - Travellers Tune
    Prodigy - Firestarter
    (->)Prodigy - Smack my bitch up
    (->)Radiohead - Paranoid Android
    (->)Rammstein - Du Hast
    (->)Rage Against the Machine - Wake Up
    Supergrass - Pumping on Your Stereo
    (->)The Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight
    (->)The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
    (->)Third Eyed Blind - Semi-Charmed Life
    Train - Drops of Jupiter
    (->)Weezer - Buddy Holly

    Pre 90's
    Beastie Boys - Girls
    Guns n Roses - Sweet child o mine
    Guns n Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
    House of Pain - Jump around
    Meatloaf - Bat out of hell
    Michael Jackson - Thriller

    ----------------------------------------

    Stuff kept off the list, but was suggested, and why it isnt on the list
    Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
    I love this song, I love queen. The reason it doesn't make the list though is because its been done to DEATH. If your party is for over 50's or under 18's then this could be a sound choice - otherwise its unlikely to be a major hit these days... maybe in a few years :)

    All acapella songs
    Accepella doesn't carry well at parties...

    Pre-50s Music
    This isn't a bop you're trying to create, its a swinging shindig! Oldy stylee 'wireless' is just too much grab a party and twist for a succesful party (unless its a swing dancing party, in which case go nuts :)).

    Ugh. I hate 90% of music on that list and would never dance to any of it. Put some Harvey Danger, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metric, Danko Jones, High Speed Scene, and Jimmy Eat World on there. Proper rock, proper roll, proper folk-mellow.

    Seriously, the type of parties I go to, that music would result in having the hi-fi thrown out of the window and into the pool.

    Avril and Christina I can cope with. Chilli Peppers are a personal dislike, but they can be on the list.

    My musical taste is a bit more alternative but I'd be very happy if the following songs were played at a party:

    Muse - Supermassive Black Hole
    The Smiths - This Charming Man
    Stereophonics - A Thousand Trees
    Oasis - Cigarettes and Alcohol
    Blur - There's No Other Way
    Supergrass - Pumping on Your Stereo
    Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
    Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California

    Might add more later if I can think of any :)

    I wouldn't dance to anything, but the FBS is always good stuff (stick Weapon of Choice on there).
    Some Coldplay is always good, perhaps not best for a party though.
    Personally, I'd like to see some of the psychedelic tunes of Delia Derbyshire and Brain Hodgson.

    Bogomip you need help.

    You need swing and early jazz. That is all.

    It might sound old fashioned and so on but go see a live swing band with bags of energy and you just can't stop moving!

    I'm more into melodic and vocal trance.

    My choice would be
    Zenon (featuring Erire) - September Rain absolutely awesome tune.

    Never heard of Annie Mac. Google says she's a DJ. I don't listen to the radio though. I'm sure she's just swell though.

    For extra awesomeandsonotgheypartyness, I'm officially adding Shy Child, Tiga and Uffie to my playlist. Nice.

    Good drinking game associated with that song. Get 3-4 people and play the song. One person drinks for the duration of 1 "thunder" going counterclockwise. Kinda sucks if you get stuck on the last thunder before the song, you gotta kill the beer :p

    Thanks to the advent of the iPod and compatible speakers, playlists at parties have become very eclectic. Here's a short list of stuff i have heard over the course of an evening.

    Meatloaf - Bat Outta Hell, Paradise by the Dashboard Light
    Gorillaz - 19/2000, Kids With Guns, Dare, Feel Good Inc
    Guns n Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
    The Aquabats - Pool Party, Captain Hampton and the Midget Pirates
    Beirut - All the tracks we can find, me and my mates are fans
    FLOW - Days
    Brown Derbies - Take on me, Basket Case (a cappella awesomeness)
    Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Me Now (with Shaun of the Dead cricket bat actions)
    Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and One more time
    Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart
    and so much more
