They are great discs though they squeel in the rain which is a bit annoying, had them a while though (had them on a Marin Alpine Trail with full Deore, Jr T's) i've got a 180mm on the front and a 160mm on the back.

Really can't fault them appart from the squeeling in the rain and the build quality is amazing (they are ment to be made by ex rolls royce engineers), id recommend them everytime, I can hit 30ish and they will stop me in about 1 1/2 car lengths (very rough never measured).

I was thinking about dropping down no mini's but i dont think i could, is miss the (turns on the jeremy clarkson voice) "POWER"!!!

I've done that twice, pedalled harder than my crankset could take and the chain has spun straight off, causing me to go straight over my handle-bars. Looks funny, or so I'm told.

    ---

I used to ride a DMR Trailstar (Magura HS33s, Bomber Z1 Drop-offs, Hope hubs, Mavic D521 rims, XT mech, profile 3-piece crankset etc.) worth around £1300 about 4 years ago. Unfortunately it was stolen from University whilst I was in a lecture 2 years ago. I stupidly had only insured it for £300 - and being a student I could only stump up an extra 400 to get this. A GT Ruckus 2.0. Not a bad bike, but I missed my custom DMR.

I've stopped riding though since I got a car, used to do a bit of street, dj, attempted trials, anything that I could basically. Hope to get back out this summer sometime...

That's why I never leave my bike unattended anywhere except at home. I have a £25 heap of junk road bike to get from A to B - don't even need to lock it! :D
It's not as much fun getting from A to B though :(

It was locked up, in the bike racks, right in front of a lecture room, the SU bar and a CCTV camera. Apparently, the CCTV camera wasn't working at the time. Just my luck...

I purchased two kryptonite locks with the new bike, just to make sure.

I've constantly downgraded my uni bike too - from a £1500 off-road dream machine to a £500 hardcore hardtail and now down to a £60 bmx. I know I could've gone to oxfam and bought one for a tenner but hey, I have to have some fun in the commute :)

I can't wheelie or jump on it (at all, actually), the brakes are ****, and it tires me out because I can't sit and spin but it's built like a tank to take everything[/i} a commute could throw up to and including being run over by a car. Have yet to test that one though :p

That sucks, makes you wonder how many people must have seen someone stealing your bike and just ignored it. I got one of the kryptonite new york locks last year, but until I can afford insurance my baby isn't allowed out of the house without supervision

my brother had the same thing happen to him.
but he didnt ride his £700 urban bike as it had a puncture, so he took his old GT Avalanche? that cost <£300 and was 2 years old. Just because it was SHINEY SILVER!!!! it got stolen.
It was insured mind, and hes now got a decent carrerra mountain bike, which he hasnt rode once yet!
We all got super heavy duty locks aswell, and we've had to insure all the bikes, seeing as we have over 2k's worth in the garage.
(and somehow dad still manages to fit the car in with them all, plus the rabbit, the 100 bottles of wine the model planes etc etc. You'd never believe how close it its to everything and how much fo a tight fit it is!

Guys out of interest, if you had my ride the Scott Genius MC-50, what would you be upgrading? Gives me something to think about as I've got 8 weeks out of the saddle...

That bike must have cost a lot of ca$h...but I suppose it is toally worth it...
I'm currently desiding if I buy me a nice Mtb (prob. Scott) or a sweet motoX bike
from yamaha...I just have to get in the dirt :naughty:

Unless a part on it is wearing down, or you've got problems with it, I wouldn't upgrade. I used to find that I wouldn't upgrade parts until they broke, or were becoming a danger/annoyance.

However, you could get a spare set of wheels with slicks on - swap them out when you fancy some easier road riding?

How comfortable is the saddle? Could look at getting another. But as PA!N said, get out and ride! Hope the injury heals up quick!

Hehe, the best thing of all - the bike cost me £500, its worth a helluva lot more though! I have some Panaracer Fire XC Pro's which I might put on it, there not exactly slick tho :naughty:.

Oh out of interest sometimes when im out riding, if the front disc gets dirty (not always that, sometimes a litte wet sets it off) it seems to rub with the brake pad - i've tried removing wheel and cleaning break pad area but it still comes back - just makes a squeel which can be a pain in the arse, any ideas?

Unfortunately a severed tendon (and 2 others to 95% damage) completely prohibits riding... 2 months :wallbash: :wallbash:

Edit: Oh I realised my saddle is different to picture (I think... i'm sure i'd recognise the exact same one as mine..) - its quite nice good for hours in the saddle. Infact I know what I want, some decent flat pedals- recommendations appeciated!

Is it only in the one gear? And when you say slipping do you know if the chain is: A) skipping off the chainring or B) just being pulled over the teeth without gaining purchase?

    A) Could be that the gears need tuning. Adjusting the limit screws on the mech might fix it or you might need the cable to be retensioned and adjusted.

    B) Sounds like the cog on the cassette could be wearing, especially as it's the smallest one. Not much that can be done about that really unless you can find a matching cog to swap over. However that might create problems in itself shifting to and from that gear...

Check your chain is the right length (biggest cog to biggest cog and add two links, for bikes with double or triple chainsets at the front), too long and it'll be slapping about too much as well which is never good.

    Nice buy :D
As DarkReaper says, or it could be a loose cassette lock ring.

Its got more bits since that photo

Specalized Hardrock Pro with Pike Race forks, Mavic EX 721 rims on DMR Revolver hubs. Full SRAM x9 groupset minus XT cranks.Atec Pro stem, easton EA50 bars and Hayes HFX-9 Carbon disc brakes.

Frame soon to be replaced with a santa cruz blur 4x when the cash levels have sorted themselves out a bit.

Awesome thread. I (used to) have a good bike, sorta a bike of just certain parts on it. It was made of:
'01 GT DHi frame, Marzocchi 888 VF2, Shimano XT (front) and XTR (back), schmolke karaco, etc etc.

    It was awesome.
