By four hours, I mean that I have to drive 4 hours up the mountain. the actual mountain is only about 45 minutes away, but driving the sea-to-sky is why it takes so long. any reccomendations on which SRAM derailer i should get?
Well if you were running XTR the obvious choice would be X0, with matching shifters. Might be best sticking with XTR front shifter though as the X-Gen has questionable reliability. You will need a new rear shifter to fit a SRAM mech but front ones are universally compatible. I run X9 rear and X7 triggers and like them.
My bike: Except it now has Hope mono M4's and new tires. I've only had it a few weeks, coming from a Rocky Mountain Slayer its bloody brilliant. I'd never go back to a full suss, until I see another pretty one.. On the pedal thing, the egg beaters on this bike were my first pair of clipless pedals ever, they're not hard to get used to and loads nicer to ride with than flats. You do look like a fool for the first few weeks when you fall over stopping at traffic lights though!
Nice bike pete Yay, I went riding on Sunday and Monday to two different sets of trails (both new to me), neither has been there long so they need some work but atleast its somehwhere to ride. Gonna have to get the old spade out! I'm building another bike up at the moment, it's for work and excersize mainly but might see how it rides street and dirt jumps. I'm in the middle of stripping the paint for a respray, my uncle is going to spray it for as he own a respray shop. Heres what I got so far: Cortina Europa DS (think thats the model) : £50 (ebay) Rock Shox SID SL (2.9lb) : £70 (mate) DT Cerit hubs on Mavic X317 Disc : £90 (ebay) Cost me £210 so far and only weighs in at bout 12lb (frame/forks/wheels), over a grand for that stuff new
Some good gear there fibre. Cant beleive you got that Europa DS frame for £50. I love cortina frames, allways fancied the DH8. Do you know if there still in buisness?
I was talking to my mate about it when I went riding on monday, he said they went bust a couple of years back. Bit of a shame really as they had some nice stuff, I think it was just becasue they didnt get there name established enough. Oh, I forgot to ask eveyone, what colour for the frame? My uncle said whatever you want just pay for the materials, colour wise he suggested one of his popular schemes at the monment. It's a multi coloured metal flake mixed with the paint and it works best on dark colours, he said it looks great on a real dark grey. Either that or I was think something bold and bright like a Kawasaki green, bomber orange, or maybe the same blue as the forks, all metalic.
I basicly grew up Mt biking, I used to ride 50 miles a day when i was 13-15. Now I live in idaho, and don't get out that often. But holy there are hundreds of miles of trails all around our fair city hard core mountian trails that you can ride down hill for many miles. Not to mention the mt biking mecca MOAB which is just a days drive away. I have a hardtailRaleigh M40 with Panaracers Fire XC pros I love my tires! I can go anywhere and do anything. They have an awesome grip! My only complaint about the m40 is that ive broken my rear axle twice. I recently started riding a lot more, especially to work cuz of gas prices, But there still isn't anything quite like Ripping down a half-track at 30mph and going over natual jumps that keep you soaring for many many feet. In pocatello, we have this trail called city creek. It is a half-track about 2-3 miles long that crosses a small stream a coupla times, and it has plenty of jumps, long sloaping hills, steep rocky hills, and wonderful overlooks.
Looks nice, out of interest why the change from cinders? Hmm those 661 shoes too? Edit: CyberSol hmm maybe I should take my scott supplied ones off and put em Fire XCs on as i've got both...
OoooOohhh nice bikes. Anyone seen the new GT DHi's for '07? http://www.vorb.org.nz/article-40225.html http://www.gtbicycles.com/mountain/catalog/detail.php?id=2612&country=UK&brand=moun I'm impressed.
I did have: Carrera Banshee 19" Untill I got robz0red Currently got a mongoose something or other (only got it a few weeks ago on insurance) will get some pics tomorrow...
Fibre+ - if you can colourmatch the frame and forks it would look pretty sweet, provided you plan on keeping the SIDs for a while
Impressive but OMG its ugly! frame Infact if you purchased a storm trooper outfit to wear while riding it might blend in!
The cinders kept clogging up and they don't roll well. The mud around Bristol is almost clay and really sticky. My new contis seem to be working ok, but there hasn't been any mud for a few weeks (woo!) so havn't really tested them. Yeh they are 661 shoes, just some cheap ones I got to try out the egg beaters, they're alright but not super.
My bike, but its not so clean in real life... in fact, its covered in cow poo. I just discovered some awesome trails where i live. so i may actually go and try ride them some time after work.
Hmm so have you tried any more expensive ones? i'll be looking for some at some point so was after some advise on them.
Not tried any myself, all my biking friends have smaller feet than me. I've heard nothing but praise for Sidis, but you're looking at ~£100 for a decent pair. If you nip into any local bike shop they might have a few pairs you can try on (then go and buy them from chainreactioncycles.co.uk for half the price.. ) Go for a pair with 3 velcro straps, gives you a lot more scope for adjustments. I'm going to see how the 661's are in the heat, they're no exactly waterproof so I'm hoping they will at least be breezy so should do me for the summer. Then I'll get some decent shoes in the winter.
