Somewhat winds me up that they feel the need to push their own codec, when there's an established one that does exactly the same thing.

Especially when a good chunk of my rips are in FLAC, and I CBF re-ripping them to Apples standard just because I need itunes for my iPhone.

In other news, Apple is trying to sue Amazon for using the name "appstore" lolol...wow really apple.
apparently putting the product description and the word store behind it is a mastermind stroke of creative naming, started by apple.

So sell your iPhone and get something better :p HTC or Nokia for example.

    *dons flame-retardant clothing*

haha I read that earlier actually... it's getting silly now isn't it?

Of all the Android kit I've used, not one has made me want to not vomit blood. I wish it weren't the case, not being a massive Apple fan, but sadly I cannot use an Android device.

Nokia.. Also no. I'd sooner go back to Motorola and my beloved, albeit failing, V3 Razr.

The worst apple issue i've run into is their MBAir dying after about 12 times of use over the course of 2 months.

Utter bollocks, even if they gave me a replacement that's embarassingly bad.

Hmm, I have an Ipod Touch 3rd gen bought second hand from a member here. I like it so far, which is sad because it makes me feel dirty - I've never been a fan of Apple or their Fisher Price Computers, never even was a fan of their overpriced Ipods either.
However, laziness prevailed - I have no music on my PC, I cannot be bothered to put music on my PC. My wife meanwhile has thousands of songs on her itunes and going ipod meant I could steal a load of her songs nice and easy.
So, I am now a not so proud Ipod owner, not proud butvery happy :)

Apple stuff always works fine for me...(as i type this from a macbook). my ipods are all fine, except for the 3rd gen nano that i dropped. itunes never gives me any trouble... the headphones that come with the ipods are ****, but i go through headphones so much that i dont use them for more than a month(if they even last that long).
and before anyone says anything, no im not an apple fanboy, im really pretty neutral.

I have a 2nd generation Shuffle and it works great, though admittedly there's not much to go wrong with it which is the main reason I bought it. The rest of my music goes on an SD card in my phone.

That said, iPod headphones are a crime against nature.

iTunes Store is annoying, I don't find iTunes itself to be all that bad at all. WMP is cluttered and unintuitive, Winamp is...strange, I can't bring myself to like it. iTunes just...works.

i have both a First gen Ipod touch and a First Gen Ipad but i will never use a mac computer. I never have raly had any major issues when using itunes with the above devices. but i am no mac fan. I look at the ipod and ipad as the device it's is not some apple clusterf@#$k. I settled on the ipod touch as at the time flash based players were to small in capacity, i had to many hard drive based ones die on me and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Ipad well that was a lapse in judgement and is now a toy :)

Fortunately for me, Apple has added Home Sharing to the latest iOS update which means I can watch films from my PC on my iPad over my wireless network, which is a millions times easier than connecting the device to iTunes and waiting it to do its crazy 10minute sync thing just to get an episode of Frasier over to the darned thing.

I hate iTunes with a passion too (although admittedly I've made a decent bit of money sorting it out for other people), and find the Zune software much easier to use but then I'm probably taking a lot of Apple's efforts for granted and the fact that it can stream an HD video so seamlessly to an iPad shouldn't be overlooked. The biggest grip I have is with how it handles app purchases; I've never actually synced my applications to my PC because when I check the box on iTunes it warns me that everything on my iPad will be replaced with my PC content, and I'll be damned if I'm going to risk losing ~£80 worth of software over that.

My main problem with iTunes is its shoddy Library Structure. I hate it.

And who the hell thought it smart not to include a "Show Duplicates" button?

Yes, now iTunes joins 2005. A feature that Windows had since. I guess after copying Zune social, they will add internet music streaming, so that from any computer or internet device that supports it, you can listen to your music or video from home, all by streaming it, like what Windows Media Player 12 offers.

    ^ This.

Fortunately I have kept everything on my PC, so I can sync without problems. But I'm not really sure about the system - is it like Steam, and if I format my computer, I'll be able to download everything again? Does it copy over from my iPhone? Or do I just lose it?

    ^^^ This.

I try to stay neutral about this. I have an iPhone and iPod Nano (both which work perfectly fine) but also a PC. I have frequently considered switching to Android when it is a bit more polished. That is, until I actually used one. Then you learn to appreciate how polished and ergonomic iOS really is.

Apple are a bit fascist about their closed garden software and hardware? Do tell? They enforce DRM? Just like Microsoft, Sony and all the other big players then?

    I mean, where's the news?

As a geek you should know more than most people what you are buying into. You also should know that there are plenty of viable alternatives. Pay your money, make your choice, STFU.

iTunes sucks. I use Media Monkey when I have to update my OH's iPod.

I have a cheap Sumvision MP3/4 player. I was going on hols and didn't want anything expensive ruined by sun tan cream / beer / pizza. Four years later and wearing it whilst refurbing a house, it's still going strong. The OS sucks but all I have to do is plug it in to my laptop with a USB cable and it's sorted.

This made me laugh i remeber an occasion my friend was watching one of the keynote things were they announce new products "Here we go ladys and gentlemen the iPhone" to which he stands up bold and shouts "WHAT A ****ING SUPRISE!!" everybody claims apple are "Creative" but i still have'nt seen any new bold moves that revolutionize already existing products

I mean playing games on your ipod is all good but who really has enough time to sit and play that stuff? i know i don't and the fact they bring a new one out every week is a kick in the teeth to say the least i want my device to feel new and the fact they put a number on the end of it really takes the piss

I've never been a fan of apple and there products nothing shines to me as being new or something i could'nt get for better value with a different company lets face it we won;t be getting an aluminium case but we atleast will be getting it for a 3 figure sum of money and probebly 50% better hardware, the fanboys who try justify there value are idiots i mean be honest you want it because it looks and feels cool to use right?

not because "Its good for photoshop" you say that and so help me god!! i will strike you with my ring hand! Music use is the only justification i can take and thats pushing it lets face it if Mac software worked on PC then the only guys buying a Mac would be the fanboys

    ^^ This.

I've had a 3rd gen classic, one of the last lot of Nano's, 2 touch and a macbook and the only issue I've ran into was the classic bricking twice.

It works if you just use it to do the simple things it's meant to do.
Search for a song, download it, drag onto ipod.
Insert CD, rip it, drag onto ipod.

I enjoy music a lot, and forever swap tracks around etc, but FLAC and all that doesn't interest me in the slightest. As long as it's clear when it's loud I'm happy, and as long as I don't spend an hour trying to move things around and get them to work.

Oh, and the USB speeds are phenomenal compared to a PC.

I'm not a fanboy, I just appreciate the functionality of their stuff to do the day to day simple stuff in a pretty impeccable way.
