http://dancameron.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/cult-of-mac.jpg[img] Yes you are... get out.

Honestly I have the same distain for Apple products. They have some decent kit I'll be honest, but it's the hype around them I avoid like the plague...

Friend: "DUDE GET AN iPHONE4! THEY'RE AWESOME!"
Me: "Well, no, not really... I need a non-touch screen QWERTY keypad"
Friend: "Why?! Look turn the phone sideways..."
Me: "Yeah I break touchscreens quickly..."
Friend: "Good look breaking this phone..." *drops and watches the back shatter..
Me: "Yeah... good luck with that."

The problem is, I'm a skydiver, an idiot and most likely person to decide to give my phone a shave/haircut/wash/skydive without a parachute, Therefore I need a phone that won't break on me. iPhones are fine if you sit in an office all day or fap to Hentai (sorry I need humour... office has been bleak) but if you do anything out of the ordinary, the hardware just seems to fail amazingly (yes I've seen an iphone3GS become a frisbee at 13000 feet before and laughed my face off at it.)

They're just not for me, the iPod I have is purely on a capacity basis, I'd change to a Zen if I could have 500GB harddrive space.

Also... I don't mean to be rude, but changing the topic name (Yes I was aware he swore... alot... more than me... challenge accepted) to something as... frankly annoying as that isn't cool? +rolls eyes+

Whilst iOS is polished (and simplified - I don't mean that in a bad way), you can achieve the same thing in Android with an MIUI ROM.

As you say it's just personal preference, but at least with Android if I want to change the experience it's just a ROM-flash away.

    +1 rofl :D

I had great pleasure at work yesterday when I threw out about 50 Justin Bieber calendars into a trash compactor. "Take that you pubescent teenager!" I would say. As I threw them in I could have sworn I heard demons crying out in horror and cursing at me.... :D

I thought that his pointless, groundless, swearing rant was frankly annoying (twice). He can change it back if he wants.

...If the phone manufacturer will allow it. Many Android phones turn out to be locked to the version of the OS that it was shipped with, or are incompatible with newer versions, or there are functionality issues when you upgrade.

I was really sad when my iriver h320 player died. I knew there weren't a whole lot of players out there that still supported UMS transfer, they're almost all UTP now. You've gotta use software to transfer music files or they won't play.

I had to settle for an 8 gig nano I was given for free. I hate flash memory based players. Whatever happened to using hdd's? My iriver's hdd lasted for a good 5-6 years and as far as I know it still works fine. Battery life was superb. I measured 28 hours of playback at full volume with rockbox.

Now I have to deal with itunes and this horrible player. Why can't I have my own custom EQ curves. I want dithering and crossfeed.

I'm just not a fan of apple products. The only product I've used and liked was the ipad, but even that just felt like a phat iphone. I hated my macbook and it's useless power supply. After it frayed and caught on fire, I immediately replaced the cable on my new one so it wouldn't happen again. Then there was that time I updated my macbook, and locked me out of OSX. Lost a lot of crucial job related data.

Who says iPods don't last more than a year? I had a 2nd gen 8gb nano for ages, taking it boarding with me, was still going strong until it got nicked. Replaced it with another 2nd gen 8gb nano which is fine. Had a 3rd gen 20gb iPod which lasted 3 years before I sold it while still in perfect working order. Had a 5th gen 30gb iPod which lasted 2 years before I sold it while still in perfect working order. My housemate had a massively beaten up first gen touch for years before he sold it (for EIGHTY FIVE POUNDS somehow) in PERFECT WORKING ORDER.

The only problem I've had with an iPod is when I had a 2nd gen touch, I noticed the top corner of the screen was a bit "squishy". Took it to an Apple store and they swapped it out immediately.

Really, if you can't get 12 months usage out of an iPod, I must say, you're doing something very, *very* wrong.

I dislike iTunes too. Apple's walled garden is massively irritating. But damn, their hardware is well engineered.

where do I start with apple products? hell I can't even be bothered. All I will say is I hate iTunes so much. Only apple product I like is the ipad but the biggest problem with it is price, just no where near worth it for what you get and what else you can get for the money.

I can however say I really like my Sony walkmans, they use windows media player which is really good, works well and dosen't take years.... I mean decades to start up and it is really quick to add music to your player. The sound quality is superb as well, way better than the tinny piece of $h!t you get from ipods. also the battery life is way better and the earphones are actually half decent, and you get to set your own equaliser so it sounds almost as good as the asus xonar dx. But you do have to spend at least £130 for a decent one as some of the other sony walkmans are built really badly.

I would like to know peoples thoughts on the cowon players. I have heard very good things about them but what has put me off is the glossys screens and touch screens. As I have my player in my pocket a lot of the time I want to be able to change song and volume while the player is in my pocket.

    Itunes sucks.
    Ipods are overpriced and underperform.

I have an Ipod, 120GB, 'cos my car has a dock, the gym has a dock, and the stero at work has a dock.
I did it on the cheap, got an ebay bust one and fixed it.... £26 all in.

but Apple and Sony are both companies I avoid. Both are patent and restriction frenzied , so much so that the restrictions impact on the use of the kit.

If I could avoid using Itunes I would, or have another MP3 player use the docks, I'd toss the ipod in the bin

...less bloated then. At least Winamp does the the service of asking me if I want an always-on agent buzzing around my processes, instead of just arriving at the party with the unexpected coke fiend who drinks everything and harasses you when you don't do things the way it wants.

Bagman: From what I hear Cowon is second to none in audio quality, but that comes at a significant price. I haven't used one myself as my old mp3 player is still going strong.

    By old I mean OLD
    [IMG]

How old you ask? Well it has the latest firmware on it and that is dated February 10, 2003
    [IMG]

When this dies I will get a new player. But given what this has lasted through and for this long... it may be awhile before I get a replacement. Amazingly enough the battery still holds an 8 hour charge. I think this old Zen has broken me more than I have harmed it, lots of bruises from impacts where it wound up between me and the ground/wall/tree.

    ^^^ Old skool!

Seriously, anyone who doesn't like an iPod can pick one of the above babies up for what? £15,--? All your purist MP3 needs met, for small change.

I think that people who rant about Apple have some chip on their shoulder, to be honest. Others are either enjoying their iPod or simply enjoying one of the many good alternatives out there.

Funny enough I did pick it up used for about that price (when converted to USD) and it has lasted me through 6 years of heavy abuse. Funny enough the in ear monitors I normally use with it cost £184, granted I only use cheap beater ear buds when doing anything crazy.

I don't get the apple love/hate at all, I agree apple products (on the whole) work well, reliably and smoothly, that is one of the benefits of having complete hardware/software control. When compared to other companies that cover a broader price range and generally use off the shelf hardware there is obviously going to be a noticeable difference.

When I compare like for like, eg my nexus one vs an iphone 4, the iphone is a tad smoother in the UI transitions but apart from that I couldn't really say one was "better" I really think it is a case of preferences. For some reason people feel the need to justify their views loudly and aggressively (in both camps). If you don't like Apple products, don't use them:sigh:

No, it's because I am annoyed that everyone jumps on me and tell me how great this is, and how superior quality it is, and how is massacres everything else, and end up being some mediocre at best, device. And they are plenty of better devices out there. The part that annoys me the most is that everyone that tells me how great the iPod is, never used something else.. or some dollar shop MP3 player, which on that last point, is like people purchasing a 200$ Acer laptop, and complain non stop about it as it can't even run XP on it smoothly, than cash out next year on a MacBook Pro, and go "OOOHHH look how Macs is better than PC, Windows suck, so slow!" It's not because of the OS, it's because you cashed out 10x more on the system!

I have no problem with a person doing whatever he or she wants with her money, but don't rub your wrong decision on my face, and try and make me believe they are the best, and refuse to learn.

No, Apple products aren't tested. Every new product they release they are always a bunch of problems which you have to way for Apple to either fix it, or be disappointed that they deny the problem.

Apple strength is unity and uniformity.

    Example:
You have 1x program, iTunes which connects and support all Apple devices.
Compared to Microsoft, you have Windows Media Player, Zune, like 2-3 music stores (including the Zune marketplace). Or (this is what I was told, so excuse if it's wrong or old): Blackberry. You have 1 desktop program to sync your music, another program to convert your music, and another to manage and another to update your device, and they look different, and not connected in any way.

This the strength of Apple. In addition, the interface is the same more or less between programs.

Here is another bad design example: This was Vista Microsoft Windows programs:
    PICK ONE!
It's like if every programs part of Windows Vista was made by a different company who had no idea on the interface of the OS.

Lucky, Microsoft greatly improved things in Windows 7, which is another reason why Windows 7 picked. Windows 8 should continue this effort further.

In conclusion, this is why Apple products are easy to use as well, as they work essentially the same. You know what is a menu, you know what a drop down box, and so on and so forth, and you don't have 20 programs that are all the same at the end of the day, or should be part of the same program.

I posted this in the other thread that's closed now:

Summary: I AM RAGING BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE HOW APPLE GIVES AWAY MUSIC BAWWWW

Fact is, just because iTunes has the song listed for free doesn't mean you get it without any DRM or copy protection....

I agree 100% with liratheal, Nexxo, Fiyero. iOS is still leaps and bounds ahead of Android in terms of UI quality and usability. I honestly would love to own an Android phone, but after comparing the iPhone 4 to the top Android phones available on AT&T at the time of my purchase (HTC Aria, Sony X10 and a Samsung Galaxy S variant) there really was no comparison. (ANDROID PHONE MANUFACTURERS, Y U NO MAKE PHONES OUT OF SOMETHING OTHER THAN CRUMMY FEELING PLASTIC? ALSO, Y U NO USE STOCK ANDROID?) The only nice feeling Android phone I've used is a Nexus One, but the thing has a stupid, useless trackball..

It seems to me that Apple's business model lends itself more to giving consumers the best experience than Google's. Apple just wants to sell you hardware and media, Google wants you to use their (free, and mostly excellent) services to increase the value of their advertising.

+1 To Sony walkmans! I got a Bluetooth enabled16gb mp3 player for £100 (including bluetooth headphones) in 2008. Turns on straight away, literally 0.0000001 milliseconds. Doesn't even need to use wmp to transfer music, can drag and drop through windows. Sound quality is awesome, Bluetooth is great as well. The best £100 I have ever spent in my life :D

The amount of people who have told me I should have bought an iproduct is ridiculous. Many of the people I know who own iproducts know very little about technology, they just seem to think that because it's made by apple it's the best thing since sliced bread. I can see the appeal of apple products but they just aren't for me.

ps if you dislike apple and love android you will love THIS :thumb:

I've never been a fan of apple, especially itunes.
I have a ZuneHD, and I love it. Had the old 30gb zune beforehand and liked it, only issue being a little big.
But the HD solves that, and just improves in everyway, highly recommend it, awesome interface.

You have to give Apple some credit. They are marketing wizards. It's no longer a MP3 player. It's an iPod. Also look how the iPad started flying off the shelves - despite having a name that screams '21st Century Sanitary Towel'

As listening to music for free, I'm laying here listening to some stuff for free. It's all part of the glory that is Spotify. Yes there is the odd advert in the free version, but you learn to mentally block those out after a while. No hassle for it - start the program, do a search and then listen...

In addition, I ate a really nice Golden Delicious earlier....om nom nom...
