    Tablets are useless, and have no proper use. Yet may companies are investing in Tablet PC's and the iPad has been a success on an unimaginable scale?

    Just think, in USA iPads are being used in Hospitals, and patients have actually reacted well to using them. Tablets useless my arse.

    I hate Apple's fanboys and cult status, but I own an ipod classic 120GB and it's rock solid. Hasn't done anything wrong in two years. Don't stoop to silly generalizations about all Apple hardware being bad - it's as stupid and meaningless as saying that all nVidia cards are bad. Some are, some aren't - do a little market research, find out which ipods are worth having, and you won't get bitten in the arse so often.

    My iphone 3g did last for over 2 years and was scratch free and all the buttons etc, were good aswell. Though my new iphone 4 buttons for volume and the home key is a bit shaky. I guess it all comes down to if you're lucky or not.

    That being said, I see apples product as the pinnacle of streamlining (consumer-side) at the expense of durability. And I like that Apple finally has placed more focus on looks than previous companies ever had.

    The hate against itunes in this thread is justified though there's a lot of ways to bypass the hard-headedness of it.

    The iPad as far as I'm concerned is primarily a games machine (at least I've yet to see them being used for anything else).

    However, tablet PCs have been used in industry for quite a long time - I remember using one in the field back in 2003 for viewing live seismic data. So they are useful, but I think in the form that the iPad is, it's not quite a useful device.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to... slate... it...

    My iPod Video 5th gen is nearing its 5th year of life and besides changing the headphone socket for a new one (1$ of eBay) it's running at full steam.

    Then again, my ex GF's iPhone 3GS has been to the Apple Care Center more times than I can count -.-'

    Apple products are nice to look at. They're fine right up until I start actually trying to use one for accomplishing tasks. Then I end up looking like this:

    This.
    I think the only things that can reasonably be disliked/hated about Apple are the Cult-of-Jobs ********, the fanboys and some of Apple's policies on control, walled-gardens, etc.
    From an unbiased perspective it's hard to fault their actual hardware in terms of quality or design and their software just comes down to personal taste.

    I think a lot of enthusiasts (maybe justifiably) feel 'threatened' by Apple's continuous rise in popularity in the industry because the more market share Apple have, the more the 'simple and locked-down is best' philosophy permeates; and that notion is anathema to us.
    The thing is.. Windows and Linux aren't going anywhere, so realistically I think we've little to worry about and we enthusiasts can hopefully just benefit from better market competition and the extra innovation it brings; whether directly from Apple or from others trying to compete.

    Listening to the smug, clueless ******s who buy Apple products as fashion accessories grates on our nerves, but it's important to remember that there are plenty of well-informed Apple fans and plenty of reasons to give Apple products a chance even as an enthusiast; so it's probably best to just pat the former kind of Apple-r on the head and just grin and bear it.

    It's refreshing to see plenty of people eager to place themselves in the middle of the fanboy divide, rather than taking sides. :p

    ...Get out. :p

    See thats the thing that bugs me... if something breaks, I fix it. I'm a man, I do DIY... I build furniture, I work with wood (shut it...), metal and plastics and act all manly and wear Old Spice. I shouldn't have to send it to location x,y or z on the 35th of Appletempter 011.02M (Thats 5th of Feb 2011 for the un-enlightened who've never seen me waffle) to be fixed by a dude with a 12 sided Allen Key and a hard-drive .012mm's smaller than a standard size. It's pointless and annoying.

    I concur, shame they have to have such an awful program for such a brilliant piece of hardware! :)

    Order the odd sized tools and DIY to your heart's content! Using weird fasteners means that less people open up their products to dick around and break things, but the true DIY people still have the ability to do work.

    I really like Sony and Apple products and really appreciate the fact I live in an age technology like this is available, as well as being in a part of the world that allows me to be rich enough to obtain it (often at the expense of other people in other countries..).

    I also appreciate the fact I could chose one of the many other amazing alternatives if I so choose. We are so lucky yet people are moaning about such trivial things... Even if you hate Apple ect, just be glad about the fact they provide the competition needed for other companies to have to compete with to be able to offer you the products you are all raving about.

    My Ipod lasted 13 months...

    [IMG]

    Constant crashing, lost half it's capacity, wouldn't update or transfer music.
    Took all my frustration out on it with a hammer.

    Wow this thread is still up?

    1. It's not a great rant... not one use of the word c**t...

    2. The OP broke a ranting rule and came back to apologise half-way through.

    3. If you really want to rant at Apple then do it for them thinking they can charge this.

    Indeed, there must be some one that likes a mp3 device that is constantly crashing, has lost half it's capacity, wont update and transfer music.

    @markbrett64

    That 5870 isn't the same as a normal 5870. Video card upgrade compatibility with the Mac Pro is very hit and miss.. Plus, these cards are targeted at the owners of one of the most expensive Apple products, often used by professionals. They'll pay whatever Apple asks for an upgrade that's guaranteed to work.

    @DXR_13KE

    He had the thing for 13 months apparently, and FWIR the warranty on the iPod is one year. If the it was as defective as he claimed, he'd get a replacement. You can't fault Apple on their support.

    Even if it didn't work perfectly, there are plenty of kids who can't afford an iPod.. It's a rather glamorous item!
