Rant The "My Apple rant is valid and informed 'cause it's got, like, eight swear words in"

Nothing to worry about - Ofcom will be forcing the big mobile operators to cut their mobile termination rates (the rate charged to a company to connect a call to a phone on their network) which should mean cheaper calls coming soon. Plus there's 4G to look forward to!

Before I switched my contract to a BlackBerry one, when I still had my HD2, I was paying £45 a month for 1200 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited internet (which I soon discovered was limited to 500mb...). I had to pay £7.50 more to get unlimited texts because 1000 wasn't enough.

This was with O2... I'm hating the all the contracts atm. I've seen ones for 100mins, 5000 texts 500mb internet for £30, that's like my perfect contract! But, I can't switch until Feb 2012...

Sounds like a sweeping generalisation to me. Pretending that I'm taking a harsh tone does not make yours sound softer.

I'm not generalizing. I'm not making a statement about all people who buy Apple products, just about Apple fanboys, defined for my purposes as those buyers who do what I described - buy the products for their aesthetic appeal, without much consideration for their performance relative to the wider market, and then champion them as being the best in that market in all regards, aesthetic and otherwise. A lot of people do this, speaking from personal observation. It isn't unfair or sweeping if it's true.

I lied when I said I was out. I'm still desperately hopeful this can become a constructive discussion.

 

WUT!?!?! STFU, I've been very nice! And the little else I have seen of bit tech has also been fairly nice as well

/ontopic: I'm about to tell a girl that she doesn't have to wait whilst she saves to afford a new mac, as she can afford a nice basic pc that will do more than what she needs, and look good.
She says she wants a mac just because they are so pretty... why do I care?
Cos she also wants to buy an ipod, and hook it up to my pc and download stuff with my help
If that wasn't enough, the receptionist just found out her bf was cheating on her, and she wants some comforting... I dunno what is going on this week, leave a married man alone

I'm a bit late to the party. But after reading about 85% of the thread I have to say this.
Most of the apple fan boys are ignoring the apple hater's remarks.
Most of the microsoft fan boys are ignoring the microsoft hater's remarks.

It's sad that in a "conversation" such as this one people will pick and choose what comments to comment on.

And what the hell:
Apple makes good junk. They have a simple OS. But their hardware is overpriced. You don't get good value for your money. There are other products that you can use that cost less.

People's arguments about virus/malware on a pc are old and outdated. When is the last time I had a virus? and I think that when I did, a box appeared on screen saying something to the effect of "virus detected and stopped"

I think it was nexxo who said you have to be an expert (or something like that) to buy a pc configured with what you want. And that you can go into an apple store and buy a mac and get a quality product.

I can walk into any computer store and tell the person(who should be an expert in this economy) what I want my pc to be able to do and walk out with a quality machine. apple or pc.

Whats my point again...
oh yeah,
apple computers do what pc computers do, and the other way around. Apple computers just cost more.

If one of your needs for a pc is to have it look pretty. I guess its a check mark for apple. Although to be fair, there are some nice looking laptops from other makers out there these days. So again, pc or mac. doesn't matter.

 

Try PC World - first port of call for most people who know nothing about computers. You'll end up with an over priced piece of junk.

I have a foot in each camp, windows desktop PC, Macbook, iphone, several ipods. I accept that there are advantages and disadvantages to both. But if I had to recommend a computer for someone that wasn't computer savvy or of the older generation I'd probably point them towards a Mac. I'd be spending less time doing tech support further down the line.

 

Correction, you've been nicer than usual As for the rest, I'm thinking chiefly of the amount of crap I've been getting over my thread in the Sales forum. You misprice an item and people act like you've tried to molest their mothers, it's depressing.

And it can't just be me - isn't the general section getting steadily more and more firey and conflicted? Compared to a couple of years ago, I mean. All-out flamewars seem to be the norm on any remotely-controversial topic, I'm sure that wasn't always the way things went.

Maybe it's just because the holidays are over and everyone's been back to work for a few months, actually. Christmas was a good time on bit-tech, lots of chilled out discussions and community spirit.

Carphone Whorehouse (Nickname me and my friend give the local place because of the amount of young girls who work in there and do very little but chat to their mates...) on Orange, I've been with Orange 3 years aswell... so that maybe why man. See... I found myself a woman, tragically she's now having 650 minutes a month spent on her lol >.< *shakes fist at the clouds* daaamnn you!... wait...

But yeah, I've never had an issue with Carphone Warehouse buddy, next upgrade check them out with what you want. Online they've got a phone finder, ideal phone then check tarrifs. With Orange and T-Mobile working together now they've got wicked signal and 3G (crossed fingers about 4G)

I'm actually more susceptible to this than most. Pretty much every time I use Bit-Tech I double-take and realise I'm being a total dickwad. I try to just roll with it.

 

It's good to have insight.

Doesn't mean you have to do anything with it though.
