GONE IS THE AGE OF THE ROTARY PHONE - UPON US IS THE NEW AGE OF ROTARY COMPUTING ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's Apple taking a step in the right 'intentions' but ultimately a step in the wrong direction. There is a formula that governs an interfaces 'ease of use' or 'intuitiveness' - it pretty much goes: 1button with 1function = %100 efficient. Each additional function exponentially decreases its level of intuitive use by the uninformed user. The keyboard as we know it then is incredibly inefficient with ~115keys governing just about every function possible on your PCs. So there is no doubting that we need to loose the keyboard and mouse - I work every day on solutions that will do just that... but what Apple did is just too much. Here we go: Apple is thinking the other way... just like most of their products (especially their software) they got the right idea but they **** up the application of the idea. Apple must have said "hmm... 1button = easy to use... only 1button afterall" - which is flawed thinking from the get-go. They've actually decided to replace the keyboard with a ipod style scroll wheel. here is the link to the article in Engadget FFS... I hope this is a joke.
I know not of this "onion" - I presume that I've been duped? I hoped it was a joke.. would be very sad if it wasn't.
Then I believe a "lol" is in order... I have been had it would seem =). I'm relieved - as an interface designer it was frustrating to imagine this in existence. A well put together little video however.
Defo a joke me thinks. In shops in 3 - 15 months Hummingbird battery giving 20 mins of use Indestructible unless dropped or hit Although i did like the idea of a circle of shortcuts being selected by using an ipod style wheel.
Yes the Onion News Network is the premier source for all things parodic Wouldnt that make a great DJ computer tho?
This has got to be the biggest joke, I wonder how long it will take to type a sentence... "Everything is just a few hundred clicks away" HAHAHA!
for the sake of clarity: it is a joke. theonion is a parody news website. it's brilliant, and by the looks of things someone's started giving them a _lot_ of money.
They probably got Apple in on the game. Borrow all the gear. Then Apple get lots of extra publicity because people are talking about it and going to see a video about a non-existent product and wondering what Apple actually makes apart from MP3 players, Laptops and all-in-one PC's (Yes, I know there are more but they are the main ones people know of).
now if any of you still think this news show was real then damn, you really are ready to believe anything !
Haha Langer...did you watch the whole video? At the beginning is believable, but about half way through it gets ridiculous. Haha. I could see apple doing something like this though.
