As part of my day job I look after the patch panels on our sites and had one of the lads send me this as a reminder to keep my work tidy!

    What they trying to say?

Show's you how messy some things can get without some control.

Well - I hope thats not your comms room mr!

I just repatched 3 cabinets the other day! We also lable ech patch lead and we have a detailed schedule of what lead is patched to which active device including port number!!!!

I'll get some pics of the newley patched room that I had been working on.

What do you use for cable managemnt and what active equipment do you have?

size / manu facturer of the cabinets as well pls - we use dataracks.

and use to use a Cisco lightstream 1010 (wasnt y2k -!!!) but now use a 3500xl as a workgroup switch with gigibit interfaces to link them - we have also sepertaed bandwidth users into diff switches as we have a multi os (mac - pc - unix novell) system

we are slowly phasing out the 3com 3300's and 1100's as they have crap thruput compared to the ciscos's

oh btw im just talking about 1 of the comms rooms as we have 15 in total  we also use 7500 cisco's.

    Cool

We use 450 U cabinets with Cisco 48 port 3500XL switches.

G - Bic Modules between switches Gigabit connections between sites.

I look after the networking side of the Network Services group and it's one of my pets :)

This is not one of my patch panels but when I took over the job I had to strip one of these down and re do it one Bank Holiday weekend. Oh, we also run a patch panel database and I use FLUKE networking testing gear.

I also admin the fibre network between sites, sweet. This is something I'm really interested in and will be the way of the future for corporate networks.

I also adim the networking at the LAN party's we are involved in. We have access to the switching gear required, *cough*.

We have also just added some cabinets and tidied up the structured CAT5 cabling, will take some pictures soon.
