Just to add another twist to the narrow-street-tracks-are-bad-for-overtaking, it's just come to my attention that Valencia has won a contract for a street-race in 2008. Awesome news, because one of my uni mates is going out there next year - free accomodation! :D

Do you know her or do you often get random east Asian women shouting at you to stop watching motorsport?

I totally agree. I would love it if a team just went balls out. Got rid of the ridiculous aero packages, chucked out the traction control, simplified the electronics. Made F1 'pure' again. But I don't think that'll happen any time soon, no part in thanks to the FIA. Their rules and regs are stupidly unbalanced. They try to reduce costs and expenditure in F1 yet change the rules to make cars slower and (hopefully) safer. Therefore teams spend more to try and fight against these new regs and find more speed.

The top teams biggest competitor isn't another team, it's the FIA.

It would be nice to see Mika Hakkinen return. He and Schumacher made for the best ever season that I've ever seen: 2000! Does anyone remember his pass on Schumacher and Zonta at Spa?!

They need to bring slicks back.

Let them run whatever configuration of car they like, just widen the tracks, obviously Monaco can't be widened but for the rest it's the best solution.

I think he meant 'full slicks'. The current 'slicks' used in Formula One have single grooves around the contact surface but I can't imagine why... basic wet traction, maybe?

No I meant I think the FIA are bringing back slicks without grooves. I think they were originally introduced to make the cars slower and give a tire wear guage for the inspectors. If it gets to a point where the grooves aren't visible the tires are illegal (bald tires are not illegal per se, but if you gain a speed advantage by using balds you can be disqualified).

    HELL YEAH!

Finally. It's about time Formula One followed suit of the JGTC's strict regulations to prevent wealthy teams, like Nissan, from dominating the sport. This should make for a much more enjoyable and competitive season. Likewise, weight penalties based on season success would be nice if the new 2008 rule changes aren't enough to dampen a slanted sport.

The keypoints are great; 2 chassis per weekend, limited testing, gearboxes from 1 supplier, 1 tyre manufacturer. These help reduce costs.

The other key points; manually operated foot clutch, no TC, less aero (hopefully cars will overtake more), driver operated starter and... "Teams will be free to buy a complete car or any part of a car from another constructor. Hopefully these points will make it more enjoyable to watch.

Edit: He was very lucky not to have broken his leg. :blah:

Man of the race has to be Sato, I never thought I would see him overtaking the reigning world champion.

What an eventful race. Might have to watch it again for drinking game, drink every time there is a collision, down a pint with every safety car.
