Fortunatly Toyota have several big time sponsors unlike Honda, who soley funded their F1 adventure.

Face it if an F1 driver himself says its pretty boring then somethings wrong, it could be coming from tail end charlie himself, usually drivers play the PC card for the most part

he has the balls to say what he thinks, wish more drivers did that and didnt play the PC card

but tbh i turned off plenty of races this year simply because they were boring as all hell, id rather be watching the superbikes & motogp tbh , more passing takes place in one race than in half an f1 season

I completely disagree, I think this season has been the most exciting for a very long time. Sure there were some pretty boring races (Valencia!) but there were several absolute classics this year (Silverstone, Spa and Interlagos to name but 3).

I have to say I thought Motogp was pretty dull after Laguna Seca. Which is a shame because Rossi is just going to dominate even more with a control tyre next year!

They say that about rossi every year, and it doesn't always happen, if anything it'll be closer this season up front once things settle down a bit

But really a few good f1 races out of how many? Thats a pretty sad statistic to me (compared to say world superbikes where just on every race has you on the edge of your seat) i honestly hope 2009 is better i really do if it stays so stale i honestly see me not watching it much anymore

This year i got more excitement and entertainment out of the qualifying sessions!

I found all of the races in the latter-half of the calendar unmissable, Valencia was the most boring by far, but it's not always true that more overtaking=more excitement... I've been watching BTCC for a long time, and while that has the most overtaking of any touring cars I've seen, it can be dull as dishwater.

Either way, I reckon this year will be even more exciting, the first half should be pretty special, as with all these changes made between seasons, it's anyone's game in the early start of the season for refinements after the first race or two.

I think that's spot on. I suppose it depends which aspects of motorsport interest you, and as you say there are plenty of touring car series for "pure overtaking".

There were far more "good" races this year, just those three sprung to mind as classics that will be looked back on in the future. I also don't understand how you can be on the verge of not watching F1 anymore when it's been getting steadily better since Ferrari domination, with the last two seasons being great!

Don't get me wrong, I think more overtaking will improve the sport quite a lot, but there's more to be done. :)

Alright who tagged the thread' ferrari'?!

You've got to look at why the last two seasons (overall) have been great. Last race deciders? Check. Politics? Check. etc. There were some great moments and a lot of bad ones, depends how you look at it all.

Anybody got a link to the end of year ITV highlights (the last 3 mins of ITV F1 coverage basically)?

I grew up watching the australian v8 series, where there is over taking a plenty, the cars are usually close and its not uncommon to see 4 or 5 cars to try and take the corner at once, its pretty epic racing, its like dodgem cars at 200+ km/h

Im not saying f1 is ****, i guess im just conditioned to a different kind of exciting where things are much closer run and you can never guess who is going to win or be up the top because things are just so close on track

I guess i hate the predictability that i see in f1 and want to see that change, i don't really like that your pretty much going to have the same 4 people who are going to pretty much win the races and only really 2 winning teams (mclaren and ferrari) along with really processional racing and limited overtaking, that just takes the excitment out of the racing for me, and the stupid stewards decisions etc just really mess it up even further

Well yes, the main reasons they have been good haven't been an abundance of overtaking, and I'm certainly not trying to suggest that more overtaking is a bad thing! But I also think that trying to "force" overtaking into the sport is the wrong way to improve the spectacle.

I would also make the point that there is probably far more going on than is shown on TV footage, I was at the Belgian Grand Prix this year stood at the straight before Les Combes and there were an awful lot of moves into that corner by the midfield drivers!

Well there are people out there that record and post online every overtake that happens in a race. If you don't include passes such as pitstops, the opening lap and any cars going off track, the real number of 'racing overtakes' is stupidly low in some races. Although looking at some data now the average seems pretty consistent.

    Code:

All that needs to be done is:
    1. Ditch Hungary
    2. Add sprinkler systems for random artificial rain

wow, the reason why I always look forward to watching the Brazillian grand prix has been quantified! those figures pretty much span the time I've been watching "properley" too :)

    ¡Ándale! ¡Ándale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba!

According to La Stampa and the Beeb, it might not be Dave to the rescue. It could be a bloke called Slim:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7801669.stm

If true, good news for the team, bad news for Rubens.

It seems to be spreading across the net that Slim has made the purchase, I was really hoping for a Prodrive team.

I guess with Slim's backing the team has more chance of survival at least.

That almost feels like a shame, but a Prodrive team wouldn't really be on the same financial platform as a team run by this new chap - I'll warrant that Prodrive will be tightening their belts a little now that Subaru have given up WRC... :(
