while not competive it at least lets the team test new parts for next season. it also beats the hell out of not even starting a race. Its not as if new teams are competive anyway

Regulations on parts might or might not change.
As for not being competitive: As you said - they're probably not gonna be competitive.
There is however, the odd chance of them getting points. Points=money.
As for testing: they could test the entire year, if they just don't enter this season and let Stefan have it. Then they wouldn't be potentially putting other drivers at risk with their cars falling apart either.

I'm convinced that the Stefan car would have less issues than the Lotus or the VR01, for example. Simply because it was developed by a team that knows F1 and drove for a couple of years.

I don't think it's a case of not being able to produce a car that functions - all new teams recruit experienced F1 hands and do masses of planning, they don't just jump in with something that looks like an F1 car.

My issue is that if you look at what all the teams have been doing so far in testing, would it be fair to the rest of the pack to have a new team's car breaking down and stopping out on track during races for the simple reason that they field an untested machine at the start of a weekend.

    agreed, krikkit.
Not to mention that suddenly losing a front wing could have nasty consequences for your competitors or Yourself (just ask Massa about that one).

We've also seen the importance of a strong start to the season last year. And someone stopping in the middle of the track would surely ruin all of that by bringing out flags that wouldn't be there if they had tested properly.

time will tell, i suppose... i still think it's sh*t of them to "hog" the spaces and not produce anything... USF1 missing 4 GP's - I says kick'em.

He must be kidding, surely :eyebrow:

The more i here about campos and USF1 the more annoyed i get, at the fact they were even chosen for grid slots.

I dont want any of the new teams to fail, they're good for the sport but only if when/if they do race they dont become a complete joke. with the grid being so close last year i dont want to see teams 5-10 seconds off the pace trundling around at the back. I want the small teams to at least be able to aim for a point or 2.

come to think of it....did last season really happen :worried:

Guess you could argue brawn is a true legend tho and with abit of luck (other teams not getting their act together and diffuser saga) plus button is a better than most driver it was a perfect mix for a fairy tale to happen.

My bet is that the moment a team doesn't make Bahrain Grid, Ecclestone will push for Stefan to get the spot. He's been publicly backing them for a while now.

    Why?
He always said that He's got his doubts about some of the new teams, and he backed Stefan even since they signed the Toyota deal...
The FIA decided the competitors this year, not just him.

Lewis and Jenson have been on track together for the first time for a McLaren photoshoot. A pair of MP4-25s looks pretty darn swish.

There's a view i'd like to see a lot this year...especially in the front of the field.
Mind - I would prefer the #2 car to run ahead, though, but i reckon this is the lineup for the pics for respect reasons

A fascinating insight garnered from Craig Scarborough's blog - a possible reason for the bulbous sharkfin on the McLaren.

Now then, the rear wing is limited to 2 elements, as you'll see on all the cars this year; however this can lead to stalling on high-downforce setups because of the required high angle of attack. One point of note about the MP4-25 is the division in the airbox inlet - what it looks like they've done is funnel air from here through the sharkfin and in to the rear wing, where it can exit out of a slot that runs the full width (the black line in this photo)

This effectively creates a third element, allowing a shallower angle of attack. Very interesting...
