I think it's got something to do with rapidly approaching 5000 posts, all negative.

Thats interesting, whilst I do respect that decision (F1 fans tune in to watch an exciting sport) it IS an F1 story surely? but kudos to him still.

welcome to the forums skullmunch :)

something i read this is quite disturbing, whilst we knew the bbc were struggling to cover the cost of covering the f1, it seems that the reason they were struggling and the reason why they have struck this deal is because they couldnt make headway in their budget after .....ahem...cant believe i am actually going to say this....WIMBLEDON!!!!!, thats right 2 weeks of rain and a scottish nearly man is more important than 8 or 9 months of the pinnacle of motor racing......their were a few other events as-well but they were uninteresting as-well

I'm sorry, but Wimbledon has just as much of a right to be on the Beeb as F1. It's incredibly conceited to think that they should ditch other, extremely popular sports, which actually have protected status to be on free-to-air TV, just to boost F1 budgets.

    Thank you Chris :)
This is indeed disturbing, although what Krikkit says is true that other sports shouldnt be ditched (although it wouldnt bother me as I think wimbledon is boring :p) shouldnt the BBC budget more effectively? They know what they will be covering each year surely?

If/when Wimbledon goes from the Beeb there will be an almighty out cry.

I'd rather we lost all the darts/snooker/bowls crud anyday.

Well Bernie said 'It'll be good for the sport', so as we all know what he really means is "It's good for me, so I can pay bribes to more people to get out of being punished for paying bribes. And as long as it's good for me I couldn't really give a sh*t about anyone else". And 10 million installed Sky users? How many of them only have the most basic packages without the extortionately priced sports and movie packages, like me? 5 maybe 6 million? Leaving 4 or 5 million to split between a) The whole package, b) Movies not Port, and c) Sport but not movies. Even if you had the best case scenario of all 10 million having sports I'd still be surprised if you had 8 million viewing F1 with the fact that football support so vastly outways support for F1.

2008 ITV F1 TV audience figures
    Date Race Viewers
    16 March 2008 Australian Grand Prix** 3,900,000
    23 March 2008 Malaysian Grand Prix* (<2.81m)
    06 April 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix 3,580,000
    27 April 2008 Spanish Grand Prix 3,510,000
    11 May 2008 Turkish Grand Prix* (<2.9m)
    25 May 2008 Monaco Grand Prix 3,980,000
    08 June 2008 Canadian Grand Prix 3,990,000
    22 June 2008 French Grand Prix 3,350,000
    4 July 2008 British Grand Prix 4,530,000
    20 July 2008 German Grand Prix 3,190,000
    3 August 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix 3,880,000
    24 August 2008 European Grand Prix (<3m)
    7 September 2008 Belgian Grand Prix 3,870,000
    14 September 2008 Italian Grand Prix 3,550,000
    28 September 2008 Singapore Grand Prix 3,950,000
    12 October 2008 Japanese Grand Prix* (<3.25m)
    19 October 2008 Chinese Grand Prix* (<3.47m)
    2 November 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix 9,080,000)

Can't find figures for BBC but I remember reading somewhere (must have been print) that BBC viewing figures were significantly up on ITV. Can anyone see Sky who only has an install base 920'000 larger than ITVs total number of viewers for the final race in Brazil in 2008 and unlikely to match that with the number of Sky Ports subscriptions. Oh who f'ing cares, they've done what they've done, for their own selfish reasons, and to the detriment of F1. I now can't look forward to next season, and that in turn has diminished my anticipation and enjoyment for the remainder of this season (I managed to only miss 2 sessions since the BBC took over!). So goodbye F1, it's been a great 32 years, but I don't look forward to similar levels of coverage we had in the 80's.

Good ol' Mark Webber... talking on the grid.

Ted Kravitz: What were you talking to Bernie about, Mark?

    Mark Webber: About Sky...

Ted Kravitz: The Sky? (quickly changing the subject)

    MW: Yeah mate...

    Haha :)

I loved the way Bernie shuffled off.

How come no Brundle grid walk? Commentary box too far away?

Feel a tad sorry for Lewis and his drive through...

I begin to feel the need to bring up the 'They wouldn't have done that if it was Ferrari argument..'
