Sideways move but not surprising will give him a better shot at a seat at ferrari. Wonder if Force india will now confirm Paul Di Resta as there driver for next year im surprised its took this long for them to decide. Still a seat not confirmed at williams but i dont think Di Resta is ready for the drive yet.
FP1 just finished with McLaren looking very strong indeed. Lewis topping the timesheets 0.3 ahead of Button, and another 0.4 ahead of Vettel. AND he managed to get some long runs in as well... We'll see how the weekend evolves, but it's looking good so far, though even that would be too little too late by McLaren (again)
Bottas looked pretty good also, considering it's one of his first drives in a F1 car. I'm still annoyed that Maldonado is probably going to be staying at Williams, considering he won once, and hasn't finished in the top 6 since then. The only reason he stays is that he brings $27m to the team through PDVSA. Why has F1 just turned into who can get the most money? The cars have become billboards as opposed to racing machines, in my opinion.
Now that the global boom has stopped the sponsors no longer jump over each other to pay huge sums for advertising on the cars/investing in team branding. So the teams are faced with a huge cash shortfall, and a convenient way to make that up is a driver. Maldonado is certainly the most epic pay driver in the field, hence he'll stay at Williams for a long old stint if the cheques from Slim keep coming.
Yes. The problem that I have is that people like Kovalainen and, to an extent, Petrov, are good drivers, Heikki even has a win and in 2004 was the 'Champion of champions', have no seat for 2013 because they haven't got funding behind them. meanwhile, the truly crap Kathikeyan has a good seat because he's got Tata behind him, paying his expenses. It seriously annoys me that driver talent is being turned down in favour of money.
I meant good in a solid, 'he's not going anywhere fashion'. By no means is a HRT a good car. I do think the paint job is pretty good, though. Certainly a better effort than Marussia, with their '11 year old using MSpaint' paint job.
Too easy in the end for Lewis in a quali he dominated, Paul di resta was poor again as was Perez, Perez form in quali has dived of a cliff since he signed for McLaren next year. Wonder if they are regretting not resigning Lewis with button still not showing he is quick in that car on quali days and at tracks like this where over taking is very difficult it will be a good old struggle tommorow. Wonder if vettal will end up last if that car ran out of fuel. Race will be boring if history is out to go by.
I don't think McLaren are going to regret the loss of Lewis one bit, short term they might struggle through Perez' silly mistakes and Cpt Understeer being typically inconsistent. Perez may have not made the top ten, but he was still five and a bit tenths and four places ahead of Kobayashi. Over the next few years I think it will work out well for them, Perez shows none of the stroppiness that afflicts Hamilton, so in that respect he will make life much easier. He'll grow out of his errors given time. Also, whilst Button's on/off destroyer of lap records/oh no under steer form is frustrating, he is a calm head and (outwardly at least) doesn't play the politics or work against himself the way Hamilton can. He will help Perez achieve and bang in a couple of wins a season, he certainly won't create trouble, which is probably why he got signed up long term.
hmm... Lewis lightning quick there... wonder what the stewards will say about The finger's car. The way I see it: Vettel says "Nothing major", meaning it's not force majeure. That means a penalty should be applied. but the stewards are looking into it, and admittedly don't have facts other than what the news said... so I might be wrong.
For a team whos aim is stated as to win the contructors championship, is winning a few races going to be enough to stop a redbull or ferrari.
You honestly don't think they'll regret losing the driver that's given them virtually 1/6th of their total pole positions since 1966?
Vettel should be penalized, he did not make it back to the pits. When Hamilton didn't make it back to the pits under his own steam he was penalized. Why is Vettel any different?
Vettel to start at the back of the Grid according to BBC Sport, woot. Sam Link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/20193545
Will be interesting to see how vettel deals with being at the back for a change Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Awesome news! Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly happy for good drivers to get wins they deserve (Newey factor being a different discussion), I'm just glad about this for the spectacle. All we need now is Alonso to come 3rd or 4th and we have a point or two between them going to a track that no one knows. Has to be good for the sport in general with talk of processions arising again.
STOP THE THREAD. The **** is this?! All right, carry on folks. I don't want to read too much of this because I recorded quali earlier and intend on watching it when I get home in a couple of hours!
Combine the penalty with the Parc Ferme rules on setup and this and you have a mighty hurdle tomorrow if your name is Sebastian Vettel... He's going to have a major challenge trying to get past cars like the Sauber's and Force India's who are generally considerably faster in a straight line if he's car is setup to do the usual "run away and be out of range before DRS is enabled" trick.
