It's not long now before the hi-octane antics known as F1 begins it's 2005 season.

There's been all sorts going on during the off-season, which should make things interesting as we hit the start line in Melbourne this weekend - such as a new qualifying format, new aero and tyre rules and the fact that several teams that don't run red liveried cars (you know, the ones sponsored by AMD ;)) have been extremely quick during winter testing, and other teams that where strong last year seem to be having a bit of a mare (Oh dear, BAR)

Add to that several teams changing hands (Jaguar & Jordan), a new venue (Turkey) and a hectic schedule that sees many races occurring a week apart rather than the usual fortnight.

I'm rather looking forward to it. How about you? :D

I have lost total interest in Formula 1.
I'd rather watch the Houses of Parliament tbh.

IMO both Max & Bernie need to f-off out of the sport, all these stupid pathetic new rule changes that have passed over the last 3 years or so need to be scrapped and sensible logical ones that WORK be put back.

There's just way too much money involved now, which naturally leads to too much politics instead of racing.

meh - insert 10 more pages worth of rant and dissapointment here :(

I predict that David Coulthard will continue to delivery disappointingly mediocre results in a car that will be proven to win races by his team mate...

    :/

    I haven't watched a full GP in years...literally...

    I am, very much.
I just hope this thread can be slightly worth having and not be cursed with "Its boring" etc, if you don't like F1, maybe don't ruin the thread for everyone else?

Btw, Toyota vs Jordan is gonna be interesting, and my money is on Mclaren. :D

I'm looking forward to it. Is it true that teams will be running on a single set of tyres for each race or did I imagine that I read that?

I bet the qualifying system won't last long... I predict that we'll have a 12 lap free for all over an hour on the Saturday, quickest time being pole before long. You know - JUST LIKE WE USED TO HAVE, BERNIE! ;)

I think the one tyre per qually and race should be interesting - I can see a fair few punctures in the opening races of the season. And two races per engine? Taku's going to have problems there, I guess, as last year he couldn't get one to last even one weekend...

I think the new qualifying could be interesting, but yeah, like we used to have was the best.
Always got really exciting towards the end.

LOL @ Sato, I think he was trying to break some record for "most killed engines" ;)

Totaly the wrong apporch in my view, They shold be abolishing the crappy rules not making new ones! All the new rules have just taken all the fun out of it! We now have no exiting qualifing, no exciting pit stops etc etc.

Theres 1 big problem in F1 and thats the lack of close racing.. Its easly sloved by a major aerodynamic downgrade not by mixing the grid up!

They need to take a step back 10years and put there mistakes right insted of making new ones..

    slater..

Lost intrest years ago . It just became a traveling circus so to speak.
The same with indy cars and nascar , 200 mph billboards tbh
Would rather watch a top fueler run a low 4 @ almost 330 mph

I'm pesimistic as to how the season will run. Hopefully the racing will improve but I can't see it happening. Imo they should just scrap qualifying all together have the grid in reverese order from championship standing (I.e who ever is winning the championship would start at the back of the grid) this may even lead to some overtaking :jawdrop:.

This should be a good season imho - the changes to the qualifying and grid are a good idea, and though the engine rule i disagree with - we could see a few people getting severely shafted by being moved back 10 places. Anyway, it looks like it'll be an exciting year indeed. Can't wait to see if he can do it again.

    /Office Space mode

umm yeah, I'm gonna have to sort of...disagree with you there.

    /Office Space mode

That would just screw the sport up more (if that is possible at this stage) by trying to avoid the problem in the first place.

GET THE TEAMS MECHANICAL GRIP BACK INSTEAD OF INTRODUCING MORE & MORE LAME STUPID PATHETIC RULES CHANGES!

Apologies, not directed to you obviously H, I should stay out of this thread from now on, I hate the way this sport I once loved with a passion has gone :wallbash: :waah:

Meh obviously it would never happen as qualifying is a tradition with F1. It was more of a "if I had the power" type suggestion. :D

This season is probably going to be the last one I watch unless it's really good. Hopefully the changes make for some exciting close racing. As far as the championship go I'd put money on Ferrari winning about 5 our of the first 7 races and finishing the season with both trophies.

I think they should occasionally/randomly reverse the grid (i.e. starting order) without saying until just before the race.

I thought last year was marginally more exciting with more close (ish) races than the previous few years.

I'm hoping that this year will be better still. :)

I reckon they should all just move into a 'Classic People Carrier' series - you'd see someracing with real passion then. ;)
