just watched apoolo 18 this morning it's not a film in the general sense but more like blair witch project (a documentory based on a ture story) PLOT Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972 was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it's the real reason we've never gone back to the moon. overall I did like this and would recomend it, like i said it's not a movie in the conventioanl sense but also it's not a documentory either - its somewhere inbetween and done rather well IMO My overall score - 8.5/10
2012 - forgot how long that film is! gets better as it goes along Armageddon - Love the scene when he's riding the Nuke lol
Donnie Darko - 9/10 Dark and mysterious. I thought Jake Gyllenhaal acted very well. The Devils Advocate - 8/10 Charlize Theron Al Pacino It felt a bit long though. The American - 8.5/10 Slooow burn. I liked it though. George Clooney is a good actor and it had a nice atmosphere about it.
Cowboys & Aliens - 7/10 I really enjoyed it. From Paris With Love - 6/10 Didn't like Travolta's character to start with.
Real Steel - 8/10 Actually didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but I am a sucker for any kind of robot related film!
Warhorse I Recently saw warhorse. I really enjoyed it. I found it not as graphic as some more recent war movies but definitely not lacking either. I found it a bit long at around just under 3 hrs. I would give it a 8/10.
Real Steel - 8/10 Big robots! 'Nuff said. It's like Rocky for geeks, and I found myself giggling and grinning at the screen as I watched it with the missus last night. Good stuff!
Blood Simple 2/10 forst coen brothers movie. Hasn't aged well. Slow, no real story, no tension arc. Blair witch and apollo 18 are made up stories, mado to look like "true" stories...that's close but not the same thing.
Red State 4/10 a thorough "Meh", especially for the movie ending in the middle. Did Kevin Smith run out of money? He certainly ran out of funny long before that. Oh, 15-20 minutes theistic monologues (rants really), not good.
The Adjustment Bureau - 8/10 A delightfully surprising movie, and a good one at that. I did expect it to be good, but as I knew very little about the movie going into it I was pleasantly surprised by it. Spoiler The Neil Gaiman-esque doors were highly enjoyable. The Scorpion King 3 - 1/10 I doubt I need to stress how bad this movie is, but I feel it is my civil duty to do so regardless. It is horribly, horribly bad. It's so bad - in fact - that it skipped right past being so bad that it's good and went straight round to being horribly bad again. I mean, you probably thought the first one was bad, and it was, but this is in a different league altogheter. There is simply no reason why anyone should want to subject themselves to this, and the only redeeming factor were the fun I had playing "spot the anachronisms" with myself. Keep away from this movie at all cost, and if you feel tempted to rent, buy or even download this movie I've got a better suggestion: Barb Wire.
127 Hours - 8/10 True story of a man who gets his arm trapped while rock climbing by himself. Gripping story and great cinematography. Stars: James Franco
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. 10/10 Amazing movie from beginning to end. Gary Oldman gets an Oscar for this one for sure. This is one of the few movies where I haven't been able to figure out who the "bad guy" is within the first 30 minutes; this one had me going until the final "reveal" and I was completely wrong on my guesses so that makes it a plus for me.
Really want to see this but been told to watch at the theatre first. As for film i have watched recently Green Hornet it was a fun 7/10 Think i need to go find Real Steel I'm going to watch that tonight.
About A Boy - never really knew anything about this film other than that my g/f had watched, so as it was on the tele last night I thought I'd give it a go. Turns out it was complete pap, really seemed like a made for TV feature and not worth your time - 3/10 Morning Glory - When this film came out it seemed to be getting 4-star reviews so, as Harrison Ford was in it, I thought I'd give it a go. Not much more than a cheese-fest really. Pleasant enough in the most part but never really going anywhere you wouldn't guess so I don't really know why it ever got made. The high point was a tantalisingly brief shot of Rachel Macadams backside in a pair of briefs. The second high point being the opening track on the soundtrack, a Joss Stone song I hadn't heard and maybe quite like - 5.5/10
Mission Impossible 4 - 9/10 A really fun action packed movie. Typical Action story line, but the action more then makes up for it.
Limitless - 7/10 Source Code - 7/10 What's up with shows that start out well and then finish off with a rushed ending? They have a time limit to meet or something? And that source code ending was a total wth to my wife. I had to explain the idea of the many worlds theory just so she would get it. That's just lazy film making...
Criminal Minds Seasons 1 through 5 Meh/10 I'd prefer less pretence, more characters. Series like that (NCIS, to name one that's actually any good) rely on strong characters and at least some attachment to reality. Profiling is a real, but so soft that it's not enough to convict someone of mass murder. The characters are a complete knock-off of other series in the same vein (Bones, CSI, NCIS, 24, etc - not all of them any good).
Drive - I saw this having known nothing about it beforehand other than that Kermode recommended it, which I think helped so I won't say anything here, but suffice to say I really enjoyed it and the soundtrack. A number of great scenes that really had me captivated. Didn't get the ending I wanted by I can see why they went with the ending as is. Not sure how much repeat viewing value it has, but even as I type I'm finding I want to see it again, so that must be a good sign. Recommended viewing. Applying a pretty strict scoring scheme I would give it 8.8/10, but that is subject to review over time. Go see.
Moon ( 2009 ) 7/10 Interesting film, not quite the psychological thriller I was expecting based on some reviews & hype I've read, but all the same a rather good film with an interesting plot ( twist ). Set design is definitely straight out of Alien ( awesome ), and Kevin Spacey ( voice ) as Gerty with the little emoticon faces was brilliant, especially when Spoiler he reveals to Sam he is a clone & a sad crying face comes up on the screen . Not something I'd be too worried about wanting to own, but certainly worth seeing if you haven't already.
Mr Nice (2010) - Watched this over the weekend, based on a true story of a Welsh drug smuggler - great story, well told, well shot and bitter-sweet. Definitely worth a watch. 8/10
