I have one for you too: G.O.R.A. According to IMDB it should be available in English, but I had to watch it in Turkisch with German subtitles Uuuuh!, it passes your Wikipedia Test G.O.R.A.
Pitch Perfect - 8.4/10 Score is immediately after first viewing. I guess it's the sort of film that might lose its charm on multiple viewings, but this one really did win me over, and over time score could go up if it becomes a fave. First half hour is fairly tame, a few good lines but it all seemed to familiar, too like generic-US-student-college vibe. But as the film went on there were about 4 moments that made me proper laugh and I suddenly realised I was really enjoying it. Definite feel-good stuff, but a bit more of a girly film than I'd normally go for. There's still the whole Glee/High School Musical vibe (I say this, but I've never actually seen either, I'm just guessing) going on, but it's done well and if you like popular music from the 80s, 90s and 00s then I don't think you can fail to get swept along by the enjoyment to be had from all the acapella stuff. Anna Kendrick is very good in it, plus two very good looking women I've not come across before, and a fat Aussie bird called Amy. I'm in. I can see this joining my DVD collection one day. Perhaps not many here are going to like it as much as i did, there's quite a lot of metal-heads here that I suspect would find all the smiley faces and earnest expressions too irritating, but when I see it being done as well as this I can't help but wish I was there too.
Argo 7/10 Not a bad film, quite slow paced and proably one for dvd as seeing it in the cinema it dragged on for a while but a good film overall based on a true story with a few changes for the cinema.
Life of Pi 6/10 Even though its a little old, I did see the film the other week. It's weird though as it seemed to have many comparisons with Cast Away (which was done much, much better!
Red Dawn (2012) 6/10 It took me an entire 90 minutes of Deja-Vu to realise I had seen the '84 version of the film. The story is predictable, but not bad... Border Run 5/10 completely Meh. Sharon Stone sounds like she's shagging whenever she tries to act physical hardship of any sort.
Silent Hill: Revelations - 5/10 Feels very disjointed. The story makes no sense until much later on and even then it has glaring holes. Some of the action is enjoyable though and taken at face value, it's worth a brainless-watch. NB: Sean Bean's accent is hilariously bad! Argo - 8/10 Great story, great characters and nice cinematography - I enjoyed it a lot.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. 6/10 Ronseal job film Does exactly what it says on the tin. Good for a laugh and mindless entertainment. Gemma Arterton all gussied up in a corset, yes please
Damn straight, a very good entertaining but also plenty of laugh out loud moments film. The fat blonde aussie/kiwi/whatever character stole the show
Expendables 2 6.5/10 Mindless fun like the first film with lots of guns, explosions & some fun cameos, though sadly it also suffered the same issues as the first film; ropey cgi, dodgey set-pieces & cringe-worthy pointless dialogue in several places. The bit where Van dams henchman is set up as Stathams nemesis was awful & pointless, as were the parts when Lundgren was trying to chat up the girl- not to mention all the goodies magically appearing lined up at the airport waiting for the baddies to arrive. Still a fun film though & worth seeing, but not worth bothering with the DVDs or Blurays.
Rundskop (Bullhead in English) 8/10 Great film, pretty slow and surprisingly emotional. Very nice imagery, although not very colourful, it sets the mood perfectly. The acting is mostly top notch. It somehow feels very “different” - which is a good thing. If you'd feel like watching a non-English film, I very much recommend it. The accents of the actors are also quite funny in a way (and I'm a Belgian myself!).
Life of Pi - 8/10 Very enjoyable with a tingly feeling of 'that was a nice movie' at the end. Mostly CGI which makes me even more sad Ang never complemented the team behind it though. Seven Psychopaths - Yawn/10 Didn't bother finishing it. Couldn't get past Sam Rockwell, Colin Ferrel and Christopher Walken being weird versions of Sam Rockwell, Colin Ferrel and Christopher Walken.
Strange, I and any one I know who has seen it and especially those that also saw In Bruges loved it. I thought it was unique, quirky, well shot and darkly funny.
Identity thief (2013) 7/10 really funny, good story line, worth watching with the grown up family 13+? Red Dawn (2012) 7/10 Wasn't that bad compared to some crap i've seen. Kept me entertained though out.
Not all strictly movies, mind... but some recent watching: South Park Season 16 8/10 South Park has always been marmite. I love the witty humour disguised as stupid sh*t, and felt let down by the blandness of the last two seasons. I am glad to report that while no single episode is AS funny as, say, Woodland Critters' Christmas or Red Sleight Down, the season is funny as all hell. Falling Skies Season 1 7/10 It's best summarised by someone else (and I don't know who), who apparently called it "Jericho meets V". Good, solid, albeit very predictable fun. Not as "schmaltzy" as I expected. Now I just need to get my hands on season 2. The Brass Teapot 6.5/10 Enjoyable. The concept being better than the actual execution, mainly because the execution feels a bit "Pretty Woman" or "Harry Potter" for such an adult subject matter. I normally HATE films where people screw their own lives up (most depressing movie ever: Click), but this managed to pull it off without me raging and just stopping watching.
Looper 6/7 Yeah I've finally come round to it. Didn't really feel the timetravel issues here, but it was just too slow for me. Red Riding Hood 6/7 Not bad, good atmosphere (the "pointy" trees for instance) and an unexpected turn at the end. That said, most of the cast looked like "Twilight" wannabe's, so a bit meh in the end.
Fire with Fire 7/10 Not bad actually, I'm actually starting to like Vincent D'Onofrio's bad guys, even though he ruined "Criminal Intent" for me.
Dark Knight Rises 9/10 Only thing not to like is the disembodied voice of Bane that someone else mentioned previously ( you can tell quite clearly it's a voice over with no specific direction that it's coming from, vs the original voice ), and the weak killer blow to Bane ( shot by a cannon on a bike... meh ). Rest was epic, though maybe not quite as good as the 2nd film.
