other way around, the script for dredd was leaked onto the net and THE RAID was made whilst Dredd was being filmed.
Sound City: 8/10 Fun and very interesting to watch/keep an eye on in the background. Only disappointing bit is at the end where after two hours of going on and on about how good the place is and how perfect the room is for drummers, they're just like 'oh it shut down and the only thing Dave Grohl bought was is the pimp mixer for his own studio'. I'm left feeling like 'well, why didn't you just buy the whole damn building? You clearly have enough money!' Normally I love Dave Grohl but this isn't explained that well and it seems ohsoveryselfish. !??
I think the problem with The Hobbit that most people have is that it feels padded. The core plot is thin and stretched out. 2 more of them? Kill me now, please. /rant Red Dragon 7/10 Sadly, the same story as Silence of the Lambs. Just different characters. That said, a bit of backstory on Hannibal is fun, and the execution, complete with the Silence plug right at the end was good fun. Goats meh/10 Besides finding an ensemble of trainwreck-actors (i.e. actors who portray trainwreck characters well), this is a completely uneventful coming-of-age flick... with Dave Duchovny. (sp?) Fall of the Essex Boys 6/10 Ho-Humm gangster flick with bad language all around. Based on actual events or not, large parts of this are ruined by the main character "power-narrating" the crap out of it...
ID:A 3/10 well I managed to watch it till the end, but it simply bored the heck out of me, which is something a thriller shouldn't do.* Picked up some pace in the last...10-15 minutes, but all in all it feels very constructed, with an uninspired lenghthy backflash as the solution. *Scandinavian Thriller based on a book, normally a great combination. Maybe Danish films are a bit...different from their Norwegian and Swedish brethren. Even the Danish Mads Mikkelsen films are boring. hmmm
Oh man. Not a good idea at all. I didn't cry (well not that much ) but it's a damn powerful movie. Even if there were much more beneficial people than Schindler. So I recently rewatched The Medallion: 5/10 Jackie Chan films deteriorated massively once he started speaking English (the Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon series might be an exception) because it focused more on the humor and less on Jackie being absolutely kickass in an Eastern Fashion. Now that I think of it, it's the same with Jet Li and by extension Chow Yun Fat, they're all great in their HK/Chinese Cinema niches but once the westerners get their hands on them it becomes awful for some reason. Look at the quality between Rush Hour 3 and the Shinjoku Incident. Okay sure the latter had a weird thing with awful lighting (it seems all the movie lights went out in Japan that year and the next) but it was miles better than RH3. On second thought, let's be fair, we love Jackie because he kicks so much ass.
Nope, I prefer his more humorous movies, not the ones where he seriously kicks butt. Nicest ones are the "funny action" ones, like some of the "police story" series. Then again, the wacky German syncronisation probably helped there
I think Red Dragon was the first book, correct me if I'm wrong. Ridley Scott's Hannibal 8/10 was good and needs a follow up. A side order of brain anyone?
Admittedly I went to see the LOTR on a whole another attitude, but still I just think in those movies there was wayyyyy more content and less brainless run off the mill-action. For example I thought the stone man action was just waste of time and pointless.
The Police Story series got really really serious as time went on. But yes, his funny action movies were always a joy.
Too few people have seen Slither, I love it! It's properly creepy at some points though, the woman in the barn freaks me right out.
Went to see Oblivion today, I really enjoyed it. It's slower paced than what I expected and just over 2 hours long, so make sure you pee beforehand. The story was not what I had anticipated. Not exactly revolutionary, more of a composite of several well-known ones, but I liked how it was done. The design of the costumes, weapons, ships (drones are fooking awesome) and other various things are really nice. Tom Cruise was not as annoying as he usually is with his ****ing yelling something intensely in someones face half the time or his "I'm really trying to look sincere" expression being overdone. Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko and someone noteworthy from a recently re-started tv series distracted from scientology butt-boy anyway, so that was fine. I know full-well this will be slated by many, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I had expected. Very solid 7.5/10 from me
Roger Murtaugh: Hey Riggs! You really like my wife's cooking? Martin Riggs: No. See you tomorrow. Dammit Gunsmith, off to the DVD cabinet......
Yeah, that was a pretty yuck moment. It was definitely a good film, a must see, just not one I'd keep or watch again. The scene where the young lass is trapped in the family car with her affected family trying to get to her was amusing - "It's family fun day!"
G.I. Joe Retaliation 7/10 In a way, this was EXACTLY what I expected... and in another way, there was less "cool" in the film. Too much ******y regarding Bruce Willis and The Rock, too little really cool stuff. That said, it's solid entertainment, if somewhat long. All I can say is that the DVD/Blu Ray WILL be bought, but only if it features (unlike the DVD of the first one) a metric f*ckton of extras, making of, etc. Tim Minchin - so Live 9/10 I know it's not strictly a movie, and sensitive types (specifically regarding religion) should really stay away. But the guy is REALLY funny, and a good muso to boot.
