Nixon vs frost watched it last night on beeb 2 8/10 thought it would be boring but found my self watching it all. And enjoyed it Epic 7/10 another one which I thought wouldn't be all that but again enjoyed it with the kids, kinda like willow with a bit of avatar and the borrowers thrown in
Elysium: 7-8/10 Best movie I have seen in the cinema this summer. Not as good or deep as District 9, but still very well worth a watch. Special effects are spot on. The ending is too predictable though, my brother figured it out twenty minutes into the movie. Eden Log: 5/10 I liked the idea and tone of the movie, something refreshingly different from all the poo Avengers movies Hollywood seems to pour out nowadays. Too bad the movie didn't attach emotionally at all.
Contraband 6/10 Not really bad, just not really good either. Very predictable, the plot twist isn't used as a twist, but revealed much too early.
I do like my Baseball movies but this was a really good true drama. I also think they carry the facts about the racism at the time very well. Reminded me of "Remember the Titans" 9/10 another great true story of black integration into American sports at a time when no one wanted it regardless of talent. (Hopefully, in 20 years we can look back at Russia's anti-gay laws in the same way through movies to show just how wrong they are)
2Guns - 8/10 Enjoyed it from start to finish. Good action sequences and a few funny moments. All in all, a good movie
My expectations for this movie are dropping by the day. I keep hearing people compare it to District 9, but District 9 left me cold - I honestly don't see what was supposedly so good about it. IMDB scores it as an eight, I'd give it a six; which doesn't bode well for Elysium.
Oblivion - 8/10 Didn't really know what to expect going into this film, had a vague idea what the film was about, and had read various comments on it (mostly saying people were pleasantly surprised), so I guess I wasn't surprised I enjoyed it since reading them. Had some fantastic shots, quite a pretty film no doubts about it, the twist wasn't too hard to figure out but it was still good, would definitely recommend it
What I like about District 9 is that is misses so many Hollywood cliches I hate with a passion. There is no glorified hero that is traumatised by cutting his finger when he was a kid to excuse the violence or some stupid Deus Ex Machina ending. The movie is just about a normal guy making some egoistic decisions trying to get cured. So if you are looking for a hero movie go ahead and see Elysium. It's predictable but at least there is no Deus Ex Machina every bad guy dies moment.
There have been several movies about racism and the civil rights movement recently, and I think the reason they resonate is because of the similarities between then and now. That said, black people in America had it so much worse than homosexuals do today. It's insulting when I hear that gay rights is somehow equivalent to the civil rights movement. The foundations of many people's arguments are the same, but there isn't the same mass hatred, threat of life, or real violence that was associated with the civil rights movement. I personally didn't love Remember the Titans that much (5/10 for me), but I'm in the minority on that.
Some people like D9 and others don't, differeing opinions on a film, shocker I watched The Place Beyond the Pines last night. - 8/10 I enjoyed it, wasn't what I was expecting, since I hadn't really read about it beforehand so didn't know what it was going to be like. Quite a slow film, with good performances throughout.
No. If you like hero movies go see Elysium. I am simply stating why I like D9, and what people may expect when they go and see Elysium. If I did come across as rude or impolite I am sorry. It sounds low, I know, but this is unintended and due to English not being my first language. Also - if you like Hollywood cliches that's fine. I couldn't care less on a personal level - I just like to argue about movies.
watched the patridge movie yesturday, absolutely loved it, im hoping they might make a new series, going to watch "you're next" tomorrow night as i have to free tickets curtsey of seefilmfirst.com
Forgot about this: Pacific Rim [IMAX]: F-in A/10 I think I watched the equivalent of BIG, SWINGING WATER MELLON SIZE BALLS ON THE SCREEN FOR 2 HOURS WITH PEOPLE CHEERING. Stupidest film of the century that makes a Jim Carrey movie look complicated, but so much fun. Can't believe it took so little money. Star Trek 2 [Second watching]: Kill it now/10 On the first watching I was pretty in awe of the cinema experience, I'll give it credit for that, but the second watching is just utterly, utterly dire. Benedict CBatch is the worst-worst-WORST casting ever and I progressively hate the new ST crew the more minutes they spend on screen. Maybe they are trying to create a new power source to actually achieve warp flight, because GR must be spinning in his grave like a pulsar right now. Please stop this ****. It might as well be called something else for all it relates to ST. Also: Spoiler MY NAME IS <obvious dramatic pause> KKKAAAAHHNNNNN Great Gatsby: Meh/10 The first 20 minutes were like I was watching something on fast forward, while some cinematographer likes swooping into blinding lights over and over again. Acting is pretty good but I just couldn't give a **** about un-relatable, hateful characters. If they all just went out and drowned on the lake that would have been fine with me. The CG team was the only think worth watching this movie for.
Contagion 8/10 A decent suspenseful film about the world going to hell in a hand basket when a new disease wipes out a big chunk of the population. It made me think how we'd really fair if mass disease reared its head.
Now You See Me 1/10 Absolutely shocking. Full of cliches. Dodgy inserted stock sound effects. Poor character development - you hate everyone in it. Stupid twist. Jesse Eisenberg's eyebrows annoyed the hell out of me. Biggest pile of s**** I have seen in a while.
Oh come on, Bindi, we're talking about Star Trek here. The original films NEVER stood up on merit alone - they we're carried by our undying love of the OST. You don't honestly think Montalbán was a stroke of casting genius do you? The new ST films are enjoyable romps, it's just that we didn't grow up with those actors in those roles. Step away from the nostalgia googles.
The Boondock Saints -9/10 Maybe I just love the dumb humor, but it's honestly one of the funnier movies I've watched. Throw in the gritty idiocy these guys have, it's utterly charming.
Is this any different to the anti-gay laws being protested in the World Championships now? The thing is, the athletes today are being threatened with prison if they publicly support gay rights during the championships. Athlete's supporting the anti-gay laws have been globally condemned. You may not know that being in Moscow. (Sorry guys for replying to this in the movie section but it needed answering)
