Please do divulge these high standards.... Drop us a top 10 so we can even the playing field or stop acting like a cock!
Take the flame war somewhere else people. It's like we've regressed 20 years and we're back in a school playground.
Speaking of top tens, I seem to remember there actually being a "top films list" thread around here somewhere.
Saw Gravity (in 3D) at the weekend, it may be slightly thin on the plot but I bloody loved it! 9/10 for the 3D experience! Did anyone else love the sound of the drill on the bolts in space?
Agreed. Hunger games is just Battle Royale without a psychopath like Kiriyama. It's just not as good. I rewatched br as well. I can never get bored of it.
Jaws 10/10 Halloween 10/10 The Exorcist 10/10 Alien 10/10 Bladerunner 10/10 The Godfather Part 1 10/10 The Shawshank Redemption 10/10 The Dark Knight 10/10 StarWars - The Empire Strikes Back 10/10 Avatar 10/..........pfftthahahaha just kidding Lord Of The Rings - The Return Of The King 10/10 Not in any particular order but all the original versions and not the reboots. This is just off the top of my head. If I really took the time to think about it, maybe one or two would be replaced but it would be very close. Possible replacements Apocalypse Now 9.5/10 Batman Begins 9/10 Fight Club 9/10 Seven 9.5/10 Pulp Fiction 9/10 The Shining 9/10 All really well made films with excellent actors and actresses working with world class directors and crew and well written scripts. Just Great movies.
Flame war and petty comments aside, thank you for providing your top 10, I was thinking of starting a separate thread! Here's mine: There will be Blood Assassination of Jesse James Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Special Edition) Aliens (Special Edition) Memento Oldboy The departed / infernal affairs The Prestige Leon Fight Club What's clear is that we have slightly different tastes in cinema, and there is nothing wrong with that. Possible replacements: Batman Begins Apocalypse Now Drive Also without causing offence i'm going to guess that you are 30+ snips?
+1 for Oldboy. It is an incredible ride even up to the amazing conclusion. Lady Vengeance is great too. I liked Sympathy for Mr . vengeance even though it is deeply depressing. There is no part of that film that is positive or uplifting. Still a good film though.
Have you seen I'm a cyborg? It's very weird but slightly more uplifting than Chan-wook Park's previous work! I will never forget the horrendous sense of dread all the way through mr. vengeance! Original cinema experience to say the least!
If you happen to like depressing films with likable characters that are forced to do terrible things because of accidents and unfortunate circumstances I can also recommend Park Chan-Wook's J.S.A.: Joint Security Area. IIRC, I read some where this film was his international big break. It has everything you'd expect from a Park Chan-Wook film. (the ending still makes me sad when I think about it )
those are good korean films but i just finished watching my fave korean film Friend 10/10 worth watching and apparently they are making a sequel
I picked up a copy of "The Host" but stupidly haven't watched it yet. I believe Hollywood are going to crap it up with a "Western" remake. I'll watch this weekend and report back but the hype about it sounds very good.
How about favourite 'kids' films? I watched The Iron Giant recently, still makes me well up everytime.
I know this is probably a bit... weird, but I've watched the Emperor's New Groove so many times that I can recite pretty much the whole script and I still love it every time. If I had to name a favorite Disney film, this one would be it. The Flemish voice-over is also, surprisingly, very good. You can really hear the translators and voice actors enjoyed themselves with the little background quips and songs. Most people I know didn't like the film so much though. The Iron Giant was great too, should watch it again sometime. I've always liked the character and environment art from Atlantis (but certainly not its beyond horrible sequel...). Storywise it was pretty meh though.
I've never actually seen the Emperor's New Groove. I know vaguely about it but I must get around to buying it for the kids as an excuse to watch it myself. I do like Atlantis, a great movie. I always thought of it as kind of underrated; don't tend to see it on television at all either.
The Emperors new Groove is brilliant! Aladdin is still #1 because of a coked up Robin Williams though
