Anchorman 2: 9\10. If you loved the first you'll love this too, for once it's a sequel that lives up to the first. I don't think they could pull it off again though and I hope they don't try. One of the final scenes is a masterpiece in ridiculousness, it's glorious! American Hustle: 5/10. I expected greater things if I'm honest, the cast is great but it was too much of a slow burner for my liking. Little humourous touches were nice but couldn't detract from it being a little...boring. The British TV show 'Hustle' does the whole con-artist thing better in my opinion.
Normally I'd use spoiler tags, but, um, the series started in 2003/4 and finished in 2009; there are a billion spoiler videos on youtube that ruined half the plot for me ( including the ending ), but I still enjoyed the series and didn't find it ruined as such knowing the outcome. How long do we need to wait until we can stop using spoiler tags- 1 year, 2, 5?....
It's a good question... but I'm hoping it's becoming increasingly common practice on the web for any plot elements of any story to come with some form of spoiler alert, no matter the age. Your Django post had a fairly significant spoiler too, but as I'd seen it already I let it slide
I thought it was a fairly solid 8/10. Bale was excellent, as was Cooper - but it was about 20-30 minutes too long. It took a while to get going, but when it did, it was good.
Star Wars [Current incarnations]: The Phantom Menace The Clone Wars revenge of the Sith A New Hope The Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi In order - 3, 4, 5, 7, 6, 6 Never been a fan, but Lucas' constant meddlings result in a series of films that in places are laughably bad.... *Dons asbestos jacket*
I thought that and didn't read the post because I just bought it yesterday! I plan on watching it tonight.
How about, if you want to talk plot specifics, put it in spoiler tags. Plenty of movies that are more than 50 years old that I've not managed to see yet, never mind stuff from this decade. All it costs you is a click.
***NO SPOILER*** I'm now on the last 5 episodes which I'll watch over this weekend. I can hand on heart say that I've loved every minute and it just drags you in to the point that you've not left the house all day and it's 3 in the morning and you shout "Holy S**T!" out loud waking the whole house up and probably next door. I seriously don't want that time back, in fact I want MORE!
I watched this all when originally aired and I really enjoyed it. If I remember right, 70's version had the same religious tones.
Except that Spoiler Stallone took his helmet off in the first 5 minutes. Joe Dredd is NEVER seen without his helmet on!
I also think that if it wasn't for Stallone's version stinking up the place, Urban's might have received a bigger budget and expanded on that further. The rumour that Stallone was told to sign before he boarded a plane or Schwarzenegger would have signed by the time he landed seemed plausible by the rushed feel to the original movie.
Urban's Dredd was probably my favourite film of last year - despite not being very sophisticated, it was definitely one of the best comic incarnations imo. The Stallone version was alright, but certainly didn't have that Dredd-ness about it that the comics ooze. Planes - 4/10 - Cars with all the charm sucked out of it. Some great plane-jokes, but other than that it's pretty dull.
Not seen the new Dredd; it's on my watch list. Also, Cars had charm? I watched the first one and disliked every character. It feels like the writers intentionally gave these characters flaws instead of letting the character develop naturally in the design phase.
I too thought Cars was an unworthy Pixar compared to the older ones. Anyway: Sightseers 3/10 Beeing lauded as great black british comedy. We thought it was...mostly boring, with a laugh or two followed by lots of boredom. G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation 6/10 a lot of boom bang, and no sense...we that was to be expected really. Nice no brain Popcorn movie. A bit miffed that it's marketed as a Bruce Willis movie, and he's on screen for about 5 minutes
