Bindi, I love you. Team America - 9/10 - Rare that I give a score as high as this, but what a fantastic film. Nothing fancy, just a straight-up action film storyline, but the puppetry adds an extra layer of greatness. There's so many wonderful little touches for extra laughs, the songs are fantastic, just brilliant. (Obviously watched many times, but I realised I'd never rated it)
...not to mention the world's first cinematic puppet sex scene Sadly, the film is just as relevant as it was ten years ago
Unfortunately, both Trey Parker & Matt Stone have said that they will never work with puppets again. And really, nobody needs to ridicule Dennis Rodman, he's doing a fine job on his own Originally, Matt Damon was going to be portrayed as intelligent and articulate, but when they saw the puppet Parker & Stone thought that it made him "look retarded" and decided to portray him as such.
"Now i've seen everything!" "have you ever seen a man eat his own head?" "No.." "Then you haven't seen everything". I love Team America. It's just awesome. I need to watch it again soon; it's been too long.
Sexy Evil Genius What can I say I quite enjoyed it, and Michelle Trachtenberg is hot in it. Not to mention Katee Sackhoff. <3
The Matt Damon bashing is completely unsupported in my honest opinion. I think he's a brilliant actor, I don't believe there are any of his films that I didn't thoroughly enjoy.
Matt Damon is a good actor and if things had gone differently, I'm we'd all not be mocking him due to the puppet portrayal; c'est la vie. Riddick 7/10 Like the original, but with a more developed storyline, and Starbuck Didn't really have that spark to it, but enjoyable enough all the same.
About Time - 10/10 About Time is like The Notebook + time travel. Would have been an 8 or 9, but it has time travel in it, and reaffirms a running theory my siblings and I have that time travel makes any crap movie decent, and any good movie amazing. Don't believe me? Try watching the straight-to-DVD Cinderella III: A Twist in Time. It's somehow quite good. Hobbit 2: Desolation or whatever - 7/10 More Enjoyable than the first to be sure, but I'm not sure it's on my "buy" list. Kiki's Delivery Service - 8/10 I'm not sure how I had never seen this Hayao Miyazaki film, but I finally got around to seeing it and I loved it, but I love all his stuff. Princess Mononoke - 9/10 Also Hayao Miyazaki, but recently released on Blu Ray, so it was really incredible to finally see it at HD.
I love princess mononoke. It's a great film. Most american cinemas bought the rights to film it without knowing anything other than it being another Hayao Miyazaki film. Man were they surprised.
Mononoke was great, should watch it again. Truly an awesome film (with the proper meaning of awesome). Great animation, character designs, background art and a fantastic soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi. Like most Ghibli films I didn't quite like the ending though; it seems they never really know how to wrap things up and give a satisfying conclusion. IMO.
Am I the only one who *really* doesn't like Studio Ghibli's stuff? I am? Never mind then... move along...
I can't decide if it was the soundtrack or Carrell or the Unicorn...probably the magical mixture of the three.
It's a Japanese thing. Many films don't have a single side you are rooting for, which is definitely the case in Princess Mononoke. There's a definite "Us vs. Them" thing, but as a member of the audience you don't know who to identify with, and no clear "this side is right." It usually ends with an disappointing ending because the unclear "Us vs Them" issue is never resolved. Or at least that's how I've always thought of it.
Equilibrium 9/10 a great film to watch ( and then re-watch ) as you pick up on a lot of little things the 2nd time around Spoiler like why he doesn't kill the guy in the polygraph room lots of great action sequences and importantly minimal use of cgi in the majority of the fight scenes Bale at his best and Sean Bean being... sean bean...ahem
