    Kick Ass 2

    10/10

I can see why Jim Carey wasn't happy about condoning so much violence- this film is just brutal yet brilliantly entertaining. Looking forward to the 3rd ( ? )...

Couldn't stand #2. #1 was great but I gave up #2. It felt like a forced attempt to be The Watchmen without the cool.

The Watchmen wasn't a good film. It wishes it was Kick Ass 2.

Watchmen was always gonna be hard film to perfectly match the book they spent eons tinkering with the script, wasn't brill but I doubt anyone coulda done better. IMHO shoulda be an anime instead production I.g woulda been ideal for it

I thought Watchmen was an excellent conversion, stood up really well against the comic, and wasn't shy to leave the flaws of the characters in there.

Watched Space Jam the other day. One of the beloved films of my youth. It's a charming film if you can overlook Michael Jordan's godawful acting.

    Last Vegas 7/10

Great cast, every one of them play their parts well. The old fart jokes just keep on coming and actually don't get boring.
I wanted it to get a little more nuts ala The Hangover but this is clearly aimed at fans of the cast and is probably better left in it's safe zone.

The Escape Plan: aka Expendables Lite.

First 30 minutes - Really very good, very clever! 8/10
Next hour - OK, still fun to watch 6/10. Clearly someone thought about the first 30 minutes A LOT and then they decided to make a movie and realized they would need more material. And fighting. More fighting. And solitary confinement. Fighting and solitary solve everything in prison.
Last 30 minutes (that apparently covers 5 minutes of 'film' time) - 'MERICAAAAAAA PEW PEW PEW ONE LINER CITY 2/10. The actual script writer walked out about 45 minutes ago and from there S'negger and Stallone sat around talking about 'the good old days' while someone took notes.

    Thoughts:
Stallone & S'negger look like other people are wearing their skin. If that's how you end up after time in prison, it should be used as an advert for avoiding it.
    Stallone & S'negger
alluding to be "extremely clever" and acting like Sherlock Holmes
ROFLMAO PULL THE OTHER ONE. I laughed out loud on the train. People looked at me.
S'negger get's shot "It's noooothiiiiing" but the moslem/foreigner gets shot and it's LEAVE ME HERE TO DIE, MY SKIN IS NOT AS BULLET PROOF AS YOUR WAX SUIT FILLED WITH POO
    Great, but wierd castings from
Kevin Costner Sam Niell and Vinnie Jones. Sam Niell's acting, in comparison, makes it look like he's doing Shakespear. Deep, deep emotions to everyone else's wax-work fisticuffs
    It's
    THE TALLEST SHIP EVER MADE
If Jim Caviezel is cast in any other movie after that attempt, the casting director needs to retire.
Everyone was trained by Star Wars clones.
In fact they ARE clones. Generic men in black suits literally pour out of boat orifices like ants and can't hit the broad side of a chopper from 30 feet. Meanwhile S'negger gets his Pew Pew on and kills ALL the bad guys. Action movie fans are a-l-most-exploding their own testosterone in response to his super-manly-man-manhood... and I realize I AM watching the Expendables!
50 Cent is in it? I completely missed that.
As you'd expect, the background story behind the main reason for being there makes a Jason Stantham movie look intelligent. Also: no Jason Stantham? Isn't he like Stallone's son now? Is it him inside the Stallone suit?

EDIT: I've decided this movie is the perfect metaphor for a dinner-date.
First, there's acting clever, refined to impress her. Har har har you both laugh over nonsense and act interested. It's the wine really. (dialogue reference)
A taxi home with sexy chit chat and touching. Lots of touching (prison reference)
Drunk foreplay (quality of acting reference) as the intensity turns up.
SUDDEN EXPLOSION OF BEING MANLY. FORGET WORDS. HNGH, RAWR. WHERE DO I STICK IT OH IM DONE was it good for you who cares I'm asleep...

Only thing I've seen that Jim Caviezel in is Person of Interest, where he's pretty one dimensional and wooden [but so is the character], guessing he's like that in that film too...

Sorry I edited that a lot.

He's a "good looking face can read a script vacant behind the eyes" sort of person.

So a movie to watch with beer... you're sober enough for the intelligent bit at the beginning... you get less coherent as the film does... and by the big shouty finale you're too drunk to care that it has all the depth of a spoon...

With regards to escape plan, It's a vehicle for Stallone and Arnies comeback vaguely disguised as a popcorn movie.

We've all grown up with these guys, I'm pretty sure you all knew what you were going to get. To a degree, your critical faculties should be turned off by default :p

It gets a pass from me, 6.5/10.

The Wolf of Wall Street 8/10

One of the better Scorsese movies. Nowhere near as much blood and violence as his previous, which is a good thing. DiCaprio is very good but Jonah Hill is brilliant.

The Story we've seen before unfortunately. The Financial industry is full of these "Wolves" and this one is a ride up and down
quite literally as all they seem to be doing is making money and shaggin' EVERYWHERE!!!!!
    one of the better ones.

Think Boiler Room 8/10 instead of Margin Call 9/10

    Only God Forgives

I can see why this film has a marmite effect with a lot of people.
I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it, didn't really know what I was letting myself in for when I started it, looking back I wish I'd done a bit more reading about it to get in the right state of mind. Some great looking shots and I really enjoyed the soundtrack, but the very disjointed plot and rapid scene changes may not be to everyone's taste.

    Anchorman 2 - 7/10
Felt much more formulaic than the original but still plenty of laughs

    Commando - 8/10
    Plenty of Arnie cheese!

    12 Years a Slave - 9/10
Pretty hard going but a great film. Really well made, some amazing shots and lots of great imagery. Sometimes going to the cinema isn't always about happiness. Don't know if this needs spoiler tags but here goes
Don't expect an uplifting ending. Don't expect to leave the cinema feeling good. The hardship definitely outweighs the happiness and i think that's the message

    12 Years A Slave 9/10

An excellent film - beautifully directed, some excellent performances throughout and it's a clever, thoughtful flick. As mentioned above, it's brutal and very graphic in parts, but for a very good reason - the message left behind by the movie is strong and lasting; without the brutality, I am not sure it would punch quite as hard as it did.
