Contact 7/10 It's a sci-fi from 1997 (i belive), has some familiar faces in it. I find this kind of film right up my street, hence the 1997. Others might find it hard to get into. They receive a signal from a star in the Vega system and the rest follows.
Not exactly a film, but started watching Generation Kill again with an army buddy of mine. Great show. So many of the characters remind me of guys I served with in Finland, coincidentally enough, we were in Recon as well
No I haven't seen any other Bollywood movies, as I normally avoid all singing in movies. (that "The Simpsons" was practically a musical came as quite a shock) However, I desperately try to watch all Motorcycle-themed movies, so Dhoom it was. I've still got to see the second part though. Most Motorcycle themed movies are so utterly bad, that Dhoom easily makes it into the top 5 of best Motorcycle movies, go figure
but that's why they're fun. i'd give it an 8+/10, because i have a sentimental attachment to it. carl sagan's novel of the same name (on which the movie was based) is an enjoyable read. it's long, and not surprisingly, more complex than the movie and full of sagan's sciencey/philosophical tangents.
Resident Evil Afterlife I dunno/10 I really had a hard time with this movie. While it's better than Extinction, that's a bit like saying that it's better to eat than bricks... So let's see (without spoiling much); It's as "Zombie" as Resident Evil 5. I.e. not at all. I reckon I know a thing or two about zombies, and zombies DON'T have octopusses coming out of their mouth. Then there's the fact that Alice is STILL in there. Yes, Mr. Director, dude. I KNOW Milla is your wife. Get over it. Not that I mind Milla, but I do mind Alice. Umbrella's also still in there - slightly off as well. On the other hand: Hmmmmm... Ali Larter as Claire Redfield... yummness. And it IS better than Extinction. It's almost on par with the second film.
Just to be pernickety: the plural of octopus is octopodes. Anyhoo... Hot Tub Time Machine: 6/10 I was expecting so much from this film (don't ask me why), and it disappointed on so many levels. It had a promising premise, but was ruined by puerile, boob-laden humour and the obvious saccharine-sweet ending. Still, it did have a few good moments in it, just not enough to pull it out of mediocrity.
Real ones? you mean the guy on the street corner going "Chaaaaaaange" wasn't a real Zombie? What's next? You'll be telling me that those games I play aren't like real life either and I can't go around shooting people? pfsssh I was wondering what the plural was, actually... Octppusses didn't sound right. As for HTTM - agree 100% on that, though I was a bit more positive about it, seeing as I went in expecting CRAP
I've just bought a new home cinema system, so picked up a couple of blu ray films. Wednesday I watched Avatar for the first time. I had heard mostly bad things about the film so I was very pleased to find that I really enjoyed it. Agree that it was visually stunning, but I quite liked the story. It wasn't any where near as bad as I was expecting. 7/10 Last night I watched Inception for the first time. I missed it at the cinema and waited until I got a blu ray before watching it. I loved it! I really enjoy films that make you think. Excellent story and well acted. I will definately watch this one again, even though the ending was a tad frustrating. 8/10
Black Swan 8/10 Very well shot, excellent acting all round, even Mila Kunis (I was actually surprised). The score was perfect and it had the good surrealism that Aronofsky does so well. Terribly predictable unfortunately, but still a definite watch. Not sure about the big screen, perhaps DVD, but definately yes.
Actually, I'm pretty sure both octopuses and octopodes are accepted plurals of octopus (octopi is debatable), but octopuses is by far the most common form (and IIRC, the form that appears in the OED).
The accepted plural in this thread is: Octopussy 6/10 It's a Bond, Obviously, but in my Opinion not as good as the others.
ToyStory 3 10/10 Now thats how animations should be made. Great story line, progressed properly from the last film and wasnt just a hash of ideas thrown together to make a bit more money from the franchise. Several touching moments, especially the incinerator scene & wave goodbye, Pixar/ Disney etc will have to work hard to better the ToyStory trilogy.
The Way Back. I think my opinion is colored somewhat by the fact that Mark Strong, Ed Harris and Peter Weir presented the film. I thought it was fantastic. 8/10 (I'm docking points because it was a little slow in parts, and I always dislike movies where they have a bunch of Westerners putting on Russian/Polish/German/non-native accents.)
Just watched Lock, Stock and two Smoking Barrels again, didn't like it as much as I did the first time I saw it. ...Guy Ritchie's style gets old pretty fast.
The Last Airbender 6.5/10 Crappy, but not as bad as I was told. No, I don't know the cartoons, nor do I want to (Am I like... the only one in the world that couldn't care less about it?). Acting was rubbish, script was painful at times ("My grandmother would ask you... " I wanted to die...), but the CG was good, the story entertaining enough.
