Ed Wood Rating: 7/10 Re watched it again recently, reminded me about why it's one of my favourite Tim Burton films (along with batman and nightmare before christmas). Martin Landau is excellent as bela lugosi. The whole film has the wierd lovable charm that so many tim burton films do. (Johnny Depp was excellent too, but he always is)
The Mechanic. Same idea as The Transporter but hes an assassin. Pretty predictable plot twists but not awful. Solid 6/10
except if you South African (only speaking for myself here). For me it was as follows: "Its Jo'berg - lolz. Lolz funny accents" which took a whole 10minutes. After that is was meh for me, so my rating - District 9 3/10 Like a movie in the Amazon - an international firm shot in SA is a novelty (which quickly wore off.) Yes, Afrikaans speaking people do sound like that (to various degrees) when speaking English, Yes, Jo'berg is that dirty, and yes, people are generally that racist. In a nutshell - it is to me like you watching a movie about a middle class family living in/near London - now remove racial minority of your choosing and insert aliens instead. Treat aliens in same way as racial minority was treated.
Jason Stanthan's Resume reads: "I can only do movies where I drive, shoot, fight and talk 'British gruff'" The original Transporter was quite good (Asian porn star 'actress' Cheesecake) but it was still no Blues Brothers or Ronin of car chases though.
Kick-Ass 6/10 Ummm, this is a film rated 16, yet more explicit and bloody than...well...Rambo4? Exploding Heads, hacked off limbs. There's something...strange about an eleven year old doing explicit headshots in slowmotion. Especially since these aren't done in an overdrawn, comical way that would excuse it (beeing based on a comic). Compared to LEON, there's no sense of trauma. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind gore in films (looking forward to Machete ), but this one...weird. Does anyone know if there's to ba a successor for "The Golden Compass"? I mean, the first movie stopped when it was about to get interesting sooo, where's the rest?
Nope. It didn't do very well at the box office, and the studio was scared off by the bible bashers. You can read all three books though - Golden Compass / Northern Lights, The Subtile Knife & The Amber Spyglass . As for Kick Ass - Brilliant Film. 6/10 is harsh. 8.5 - 9 / 10 is more realistic.
Tron @ IMAX. 9/10.. Two Words, Epic. (First word is censored) Damn good sound track. Why oh why didn't i see it earlier. Green Hornet 5/10 Cheap Comic book adaption, spent too much time on how juvenile he is. Ending escape was rubbish.
Bible what? really? Amazing. I can imagine it didn't doo too well at the box office, it's only half a film. That's why I'm missing the rest.
Ah haha Jason Stantham was the best thing in the Expendables because the rest of the cast are past their sell-by dates. Jet Li might not be either, but he was just the token Asian for short jokes and 'Kung Fu'. He delivers lines with as much sincerity and originality as the woman at the checkout wishes you to "have a nice day". Stantham did have the balls to do the front facing plane ride himself though! Much respect to that.
I watched The Road recently. It was a bit disappointing, starting out with a great setting and then not really doing anything with it. I imagine it's a very interesting film for people who haven't consumed post-apocalyptic fiction before. After playing Fallout 3, and reading I Am Legend and the like, it felt too empty and slow to me.
True Grit 9/10 Fantastic film. Good to see a western done well again. The voice acting as well as the acting itself was superb. Jeff Bridges was commendable in his role and I was actually taken aback that Matt Damon was who he was. The star of the show however is the young girl. Crikey, that was some script to learn off! Fantastic all round and the distinct lack of CGI was a blessing. Proper looking sets and nice vistas. Pacing was great, characters were good, no pointless crap in the story. Genuinely recommend it to anyone.
