    Marvel's What If...? (episode 1) - 9/10

Steve Rogers gets shot before climbing into the supersoldier machine, so Peggy Carter takes his place, becoming "Captain Carter".

Several "Captain America: The First Avenger" cast members reprise their roles for this.
Sadly, not including Chris Evans or Hugo Weaving

A 30 min show as engrossing as a 90 min movie. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this.

Yeah, watched it last night after some liquid courage - perfectly good story! The animation didn't grab me though - Don't get me wrong, the action is superb and the animation of Peggy kicking ass is really great but the close up facial animation was a bit meh when the set-pieces were great... It's not "Into the Spiderverse" (although the mixed media in the scenes clearly draws (draws lol) from it) or "Love, Death and Robots"...

    Underwater - 6.5/10
Entertaining and some good acting, but ultimately nothing that hasn't been done before.

The Tomorrow War 7/10 (lost 0.5 - 1 points due to really dumb gun decisions)
    Mindless violence, check
    Humour, check
    Touchy Feely Stuff, check

There are worse ways to spend a couple of hours on a wet weekend.
    Sweary tube of the you bad gun stuff;

Skin - 6 (because nothing new) + 1 (because Jamie Elliott wows with his range yet again) = 7/10
This guy really goes to another level with almost every film I've seen him in. Standard conflicted "changing of ways/moral awakening" fare (albeit surprisingly less violent or angsty than most), but JB picks this up, shoulders it and carries it over the line.

Yep. I was humourously (or otherwise) calling him by the breakout role for which he'll always (and for solid reason) be known.

See the "JB" reference further on :thumb:

    Free Guy
    Dude / Ryan Reynolds!

This all depends on how you take triple "R" but the kids (10 and 12), wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My significant other isn't a gamer but there was plenty in there to keep her entertained... The trailers managed to keep a number of decent cameos and the plot tight that I was pleasantly surprised even though one of them was ruined by my news feed. That didn't detract from the overall experience as it was literally a one-liner but overall the (free) guy behind Deadpool and Detective Pikachu (which we will be watching again this evening) has done it again.

Really good popcorn/ brain out kind of movie yet some real pathos particularly with a line from "Buddy".

    THE Suicide Squad - Better/10

The least try-hard DCEU movie. It would move to the top of my list for that alone, but it was genuinely fun. Real stakes that get you invested, unlike the first one. Properly chaotic like a Suicide Squad movie should be. An excellent soft reboot.

Serious rating: 7.5/10, well worth the time and money.

totally agree - I knew Gunn would have done a better job than the previous film what with GotG but I was happy with how it turned out although I would have liked to have seen more Pete Davidson…

Watched it the other night, I thought I had pirated the new green lantern. Felt like I was on acid.

    1/10 do not recommend.

The New Mutants - Utter / Tosh
Nothing to see here apart from clichés and inconsistencies. Why wake up naked at the end for a bit of novelty after becoming a fireball, but not after any other time you ignited during the story?

    Also:
"You can't fight it! It's magic!"
    "So am I!"
"Zzzzzzzz..." (This extra line is from my re-edited script).

Neither fits into the wider X-Men universe with any value nor exists as a worthwhile side effort in its own right. Anybody involved in the production of this should be thoroughly interrogated before working in film again. In fact, don't waste any more time on it beyond searching an online synopsis if you really can't bear to miss out on the detail, but by God, don't watch it otherwise my sacrifice will have been in vain.

    On the other hand:
    Deliver Us From Evil - 6 (story) + 2 (action) = 8/10
Bit of a clichéd story and somewhat slow/opaque to start, but by my left sock, the action is terrific once it gets going.

    They Live - YES/10

Loved it. Good to finally see the film from which one of Duke Nukem's more famous lines came from. Final scene should've one* an Oscar for totally unnecessary/necessary BOOBIES. Also I now want to have a haircut just like Nada's.

    OBEY
    CONSUME
    REPRODUCE

EDIT: *How did I manage to do that? Won, dammit.

    Now You See Me (1 and 2) - Missable/10

Meh. Wish I'd watched something better. Lots of contrived 'magic' that is the equivalent of when kids are playing superheroes and one says that they're immune to another superhero's powers because of reasons. Also, the 'all rich people are evil because they're rich' trope is very much alive - the irony of modern Hollywood. At least 'They Live' was tongue in cheek about it.

So.. I'm given to understand that it's an artsy thing about how he fails to live up to any virtues etcetera etcetera - But goddamn was it dull to watch.
