    Crank 2 5/10
I liked it, the missus didn't (go figure) :D
It's more a game than a movie really

And I was really disappointed the BluRay didn't even include the original english soundtrack, So I had to watch it in German :grr:

Pirates of the Carribbean: On Stranger Tides (because they're too cool for numbers.)

    5/10

Totally average action film. The only interesting element was the subplot of
    the mermaid and the Christian
, but they didn't make much of it. If the film had been more about that and less about Jack Sparrow swinging from trees and saying silly things, I might've enjoyed it more.

Most of the film is occupied by daft action sequences, like the last two, and they're so familiar that I just switched off. It felt like they were just going through the motions: "oh, there has been enough talking now, let's make Jack swing from ropes and flags for a bit and go on a whacky chase from soldiers." Then more talking, then "ah, enough thin storyline for now, let's have some partially-obscured swordfights." They've finally managed to make swordfighting boring for me, which I didn't think was possible.

Oh, and a lot of the action takes place at night, which is a stupid mistake for any action film. The first one was vibrant and colourful and fun to watch; this one is too dark a lot of the time, often too dark to even know exactly what's happening. Bleagh.

There wasn't much storyline, either. It was pretty token. And there wasn't much characterization; Jack's too familiar and a bit two-dimensional the more they show him off, the other characters are uninteresting. Only Blackbeard was interesting, but he doesn't get developed much beyond I HAVE A BEARD, I AM EVIL AHAR, which was a waste of a good buildup.

Plus side: the mermaids are cool. I'd happily watch a non-pirates film just about them. Like, a Bruckheimer remake of The Little Mermaid. In fact, that would be absolutely amazing, but he won't do it, because JACK MONEYMAKING SPARROW, ARRR, etc.

    That subplot you mentioned is
THE MOST CONTRIVED ROMANCE EVER. Two brand new characters that have no backstory fall in love and we're supposed to care.

    @Pieface

Yes, I meant the fourth movie.

Yeah, true. But the mermaids at least look cool and have the "are they innately vicious or not" mystery surrounding them. And the Christian is a likeable character. I latched onto him as the only likeable character in the film; everyone else was either a villain or a clown.

It makes it hard to watch a film when there are no likeable characters (Jack Sparrow's an anti-hero at best). I appreciated the Christian because he was the only one not speaking in silly retorts and dramatic, pretentious whispers. He was the only vaguely human character in the whole thing.

    Tron: Legacy 6/10

I had no idea about Tron, other than remembering the fatso who made the suit in the early days of the internets. The start seemed promising, but really it just turned into the generic, non surprising BS we've seen time and time again.

    About exactly average.

Pirates 4 was rubbish. I'm not upset I spent money and time watching it, because I'm an unabashed Capt. Jack Sparrow fan, but it was such a disappointment.

just not as funny as the last ones where dustin hoffmann really shone (shined?..errr, he was good)
Still a bit too much of obvious-what's-about-to-go-wrong for my taste, but the wife liked it.
Owen Wilson is not doing himself a favor with this series...

    Predators 7/10
Much better than expected, especially when compared to Alien vs. Predator.
Solid action, even laurence fishburnne's character was good :thumb:
Even my wife liked it (hadden't expected that)

Will Danny Trejo ever be in a movie for more than 10-15 minutes?

    Yes he will! :D

    Machete 8/10
Wow, there even was a story. Now that was a lot more than I expected from the trailer and Rodriguez. :D
Of course the action is completely over the top (the top nowhere in sight anymore really), there's a certain amount of "American Classic Cars" and there are women in short skirts and/or bikini's firing automatic weapons. Woohoo!

Saw the new Fast and Furious this weekend. Once you turn off the brain its excellent. On par with the others.

Just finished Happy Gilmore for the 100th time. Here is a screenshot from the best scene:

Still a great film. If you're like the missus and haven't seen it, do so now.

    Insidious

Surprisingly good, I wasn't expecting much from it as the intro is really quite badly done; overdone music and poorly crafted opening credits. It swiftly got better and had me really quite scared at some points. The story is alright but the fact it sells itself as a horror movie and it actually managed to freak me out is worth bonus points in my book.

    Just watched Casino 7.5/10

I liked Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci better in Raging Bull, but this movie was still very good.

I guess I thought of it as Godfather Lite
