On the plane from Athens to Doha, watches Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I'd give it a 6.5 out of ten. Enjoyable for sure but the ending left me a bit *poker face*. The feeling you get when you've just watched part 1 when you realise, yep part 2 COMING TO A CINEMA NEAR YOU - NEXT SUMMER - HA HA.

Also watched 2/3rds of crazy stupid love (think that's what it was called). Actually was enjoying that more that the formed so who knows. Will match the rest of it on the next leg of my flight.

On another note, gotta love Qatar airlines. Usb port by the screen in the headrest so you can charge your mp3/phone, and in the headrest is a media player pc so you can listen to whatever music they have on offer, have a choice of around 25 movies to chose from.

    SUPER 8 5/10

I thought it sucked and can't believe it's getting such good reviews - the kids were fantastic actors, but the actual movie/narrative is PISH! It's just an insipid rehash of E.T. with better special effects and a more sinister alien, but NO ingenuity or originality whatsoever. Will be watching the 3rd Underworld today because it simply cannot be worse than this.

    Midnight in Paris 6.5/10

Slightly upped cause the missus enjoyed it and I got 2 hours of cuddles, which is always a win!

Generally enjoyable with a weird and surreal plot, plus I like Paris. Owen Wilson was completely the wrong choice of lead though. He shows the acting depth of Keanu Reeves and has one emotion throughout the entire movie. The fact is that every other actor shows far, far greater talent and kept the film moving only exacerbates the effect that he's as useful as a wet lemon.

Have to agree with some of that, thought it was a fantastic watch and was totally gutted I didn't go and see it on big screen. But even in this movie, to someone who knows what happened and has seen the whole races, it's easy to see Senna's 'attitude' coming through, the way he talks to the press with no remorse, no signs of any conflict whatsoever after knowing he had done something wrong, which he did on occasion. Ron Dennis just irritates me soooooo F***ING much. That scene in the movie when he talks about consistency after the Suzuka run off incident really pisses me off, he had Prost as a driver at the time, yet he was happy to stand up and say "My poor poor Senna how dare this other driver go to the stewards about an incident and the stewards take action". He sounded as though he was close to tears!

And the interview with Jackie Stewart, I had already seen this, but it still bugged me watching Ayrton shrug off the inclination that he had been involved in too many accidents for them to all be 'accidents'.

But it included plenty of footage showing his good sides, so I would recommend it to anyone, motorsport fan or not.

    11.11.11 - 2/10

I sat down to watch this hoping it would turn out to be a suitably creepy horror movie, which is what it describes itself as. Of course, how could it not be? How could a movie released the 11.11 of 2011 be nothing but creepy? I mean; it's got three elevenses in the title! What's creepier than that? I'll tell you what: nothing.

The movie sets the stage by opening with a dream sequence in which the main character relives the great tragedy to befall him. And while this sequence was certainly both disturbing as well as horrifying - no-one wants to stand by helpless to watch their child burn to death! It was unpleasant to watch, and (on some levels I guess) I am grateful that it was the most unpleasant scene throughout the movie. The rest of the movie is boring, uninteresting, boring and again uninteresting. The main character portrays himself as a man devoted to reason and rationality, but he has no trouble diving headfirst into online legends about the numbers 11.11.11. And while the paranormal of myths and legends clash with reality make for good plot mechanisms in scary movies, they're particularly ineffective in this one. Also there is the overpowering use of "creepy" music which, while probably intended to aid your immersion, does the exact opposite and succeeds in pulling your focus away from the movie and onto the music. And I could go on for quite some time...

In conclusion then this is a movie you'd best avoid - particularly if you, like me, enjoy your scary movies and like them to actually be scary.

    Sherlock Holmes 2 - 7/10

A generally enjoyable romp, more of the same stuff we had with Sherlock Pt.1 plus some cracking Stephen Fry moments. I was excited about Noomi being in it, but she was woefully underused. Nothing at all like Irene in the first movie (who was brilliant). It was also a bit all over the place and not quite as mysterious as it could/should have been. On the plus side, I shook RDJ's hand outside the theater, so :D

    The Loved Ones - 7/10

Up and coming Aussie director with a bit of a horror/gore-fest film. Very well shot and believably acted, well worth a watch if you for example, enjoyed Carrie.

    Also...

    The Woman - 8/10

Nicely unique flick. The actor who plays the dad is so believably a closet nutjob that you'll feel intimidated just watching him.

I really enjoyed The Woman. It's just shame it won't get seen by more people due to a limited run but I guess it's not your average consumer horror flick.

The director seems to only know one method of scene transition. The fade to black. While it works once I noticed it I just kept on noticing it. Not really a big thing and don't let it put you off seeing it. It's a really strong film.

Also the performance of the woman herself deserves mention. She's excellent all the way through.

The ending is one of the most epic WTF!? moments I've had ina film in a long time.

    Overall a quality film. 8/10

Bad in a good way, but the movie is simply 20 years late and not up to standard anymore.
Not enough fun, not enough "Bad Taste".

Definitely enjoyed it overall except for a big lull in the middle and his magical avoidance of lost hours. Ending felt good.

Simply too slow and too long, then when it starts to get faster in the last 15 minutes (the escape) it gets a bit annoying.

Good fun at times, witha Guy Ritchie feel to it, but without the pace of Guy Ritchie films... rather slow, actually.

I love B-grade. This film features that in spades.
Chicks, bad dialog, boobs, violence, guns, a storyline that's dismissable... did I mention chick and boobs?

I'm ashamed to admit - on so many levels - that I actually bought this on blu-ray. Yeah.

    Skyline - 1/10

What a load of crap. The film starts with an alien shining a torch through a window that lures people in to their spaceship. It ends when they sine a torch into the main characters faces and they get lured into the space ship. They could have ended it in the first two minutes and done the world a favour.

If you have an alien invasion film you like than watch that and give this turd a very wide berth.

    Setup
    4/10

Oh my days... when is Hollywood going to realize that stupidly bad rappers make even worse actors?! "50 Cent" should never be allowed near a film set ever again, and despite decent performances in other films I've seen him in, Ryan Phillippe gave a pitiful performance as well. The direction and storyline was really dodgy too, very choppy all the way through and with no real flow. It had potential, absolutely, but the story wasn't portrayed well at all, and if I'm being brutally honest, even Tarantino couldn't have made the fairly dry tale into a good action movie. I'll leave it at that, I don't even want to mention the fact that they put Bruce Willis in this thing to try and save it. Oh ****... too late... Oh well. My advice is to avoid this one, it's a waste of time. I'm pretty sure nobody will enjoy it.

Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon
    7/10

I enjoyed it, despite having heard bad reviews. It was very long though, probably longer than it needed to be, and the British Bimbo was a bit annoying - no match for Megan to be honest. The story was interesting and as always the CGI and special effects were outstanding. One slight gripe was the ending which was a bit too sudden - you get 2 hours and 10 minutes of build up and then the whole movie (and series?) is over in the next 20 minutes, and that includes credits... It's a lot of action to handle in a short space of time, and I found myself racking my brains to try and remember how the movie had begun, two hours previously. All in all a great third installment (and I presume end to the series) as long as you're a fan of the other two films, but there was room for improvement in the dialogue between characters and the pace in the storyline. I would also have made a couple of different casting decisions but at that point when talking about a sci-fi adrenaline filled action thriller about robots from outer space, I'm just being picky :p

    The Yangtze Incident

    8/10

There is something about the sound of 4.5" guns that made my genitals tingle in awe. The film quite closely recreates the actual events, though there is a little artistic license used to condense ~10 weeks of actual events into a 90 minute film, but overall the characters, acting and dialogue is classic 50s and all the better for it. The real ships were used for filming and the musical score is just epic in places, really puts a smile on your face- worth watching if you like B&W war films or have an interest in military history.

Enjoyed the movie, thought the acting was good, main characters were good / worked well in their roles.

    Warrior - 8/10
No big name actors but I thought they were great. Fit their roles very well, the fight scenes were entertaining, the story was good, really liked it.

    Home alone + home alone 2 - 9/10
Saw them on TV since I don't have a VHS player anymore. Great Christmas movies, absolutely love them. I'll admit they were marginally more awesome when I was younger as now it seems more unrealistic but still absolutely love these classics. I grew up watching them yearly.

    Avatar - 7/10
Found it long, and I just wasn't crazy about all the animation and effects. I watched it once in standard definition and thought meh, everyone said no you have to watch in HD so I borrowed the blu-ray from a friend, still wasn't all that impressed.

    Sherlock Holmes - 8/10
Rewatched it and I loved the movie. Think all the main actors fit their role very well and I like how theres lots of action and its funny also.

    More holiday movies will come!
