So it's a stand alone complex? Overall, individuals add to a totality and conform to websites with posting links and blogs that others want to read: you do it for other people, even if it's a selfish act. In the grand scale of things it can be seen as a chaotic socialism, anarchism, capitalism and voluntaryism. If you think of people as letters on the page, with no religion, face, colour, then it has marxist tendancies.

Im not saying it is as a fundemental BASE of how it operates, but you can apply a lot of it's ideals. Then again, you can apply quite a few things to it.

Thanks for your comments Strat :)

The only really truley based community spirit where websites create revenue that is then pumped back into its community/fan base are Gaming clan websites.

Gaming clan websites make little if no profit at all as the money that is made goes into the website upkeep and then into organising things like gaming servers or lan events.

The clan im involved in makes no money (profit) and we dont intend to as we want everyone in our clan to benefit from it, so its pumped back in.

I'm going to add one thing to your post, Nix, and add Craigslist to that. They intentionally make just enough to keep the doors open and the servers on and refuse to make any more. I would say that Google is another example, though perhaps not as good of one.

If you think about individuals without considering their religion, nationality, color or class then it's individualistic society you get. Consider racism which is a crude form of collectivism because it invloves judging people, not as individuals, but as members of a racial collective.

Well, that is in the sphere of the individuals liberty to act on his own, distinct from the Marxist view of compulsory conformity and compulsory integration of individual to society which is seen as greater than the sum of it's individuals.

What set's Internet clearly on individualistic grounds is because it's a free association of sovereign individuals and all activity rises from spontaneus order.

"In a capitalist society, all human relationships are voluntary. Men are free to cooperate or not, to deal with one another or not, as their own individual judgments, convictions and interests dictate." - Ayn Rand

You're welcome, but your article distinctly confuses what is individualism and confuses many of it's traits into Marxism giving it a more sympathetic look.
