    Something that doesn't distract from the the desktop icons and is interesting enough to be fun to look at.

    Nice and simple... yet striking for me:

    I also thought I'd take this opportunity to show off my normal desktop memory usage, took me bloody long enough to crank it this low without compromising usability:

    If I'm reading that correctly about 300MiB usage is normal-ish for XP.

    I think you are reading it correctly, which is about the standard for a fresh install.

    True, though that aint a fresh install, been 9 months since I installed XP, and I've used the pc every day for all the usual student needs. :D

    Ok, to be honest it's not really that amazing, I've seen lower, it just really goes to show how little memory you actually need to run XP. That's with Anti-Virus software running too, you just need to get the right kind of software (I'm using AVG, uses up about 1Mb of memory to run). I also went through the whole startup process, and the svhosts and disabled a load of stuff I didn't need (like for example theres a process constantly running to display none ASCII characters, even if the only character set you have installed is English). There are some pretty good guides out there, it's possible to knock it right down to about 130 ish Mb and about 16 processes, but you disable stuff like XP themes and the clock, which IMO are pretty important. Makes for a nice quick boot up though! lol

    @Bauul: funky

    :nono: no teasing the yokels with your 1337nes :hehe:

    Note: that was just a JOKE, and I find the term "yokel" to be derogatory and just plain mean - especially since I are one. :D (actually I'm a hick from the sticks but, whatever - shrug - )

    I see you like Vancouver, BC.

    The big building on the right, that's BC Place Stadium. On the left, the closest apartment building, that's yaletown. Nice place, crappy people.

    And the body of water is False Creek.

    I know because I live in Vancouver.
