    You might be overthinking this, he could've just disabled auto-arrange and put his desktop shortcuts in a line at the top :)

    I see VNC open on the taskbar, so I guess you're just remoting in.

    Closet so far! You got it acually... I'm remoting into a server with VNC which has the OSX VM open and fullscreened in it. This is what I usually have on my secondary monitor on this office PC. It means that I'm never sitting in front of less than 2 PCs. It increases productivity immensely when I am actually here. Until now I've been using Linux VMs but I got "Justine" (OS X 10.6.2 VM) working recently and have been enjoying using that instead :)

    Here's the giveaway shot. Both VM and VNC out of fullscreen;

    Haha, you're looking at the wrong post! :hehe:

    Remoted into a virtual machine. One way of doing it I suppose. I'd imagine the overheads on that aren't too pretty, however.

    Please tell me you're not actually virtualising ESXi on top of VMware Server... On top of Windows....

    On a related note, details on the OS10.6 vm? What patches were required? (I know there's google but I'm interested to know how you did it in a clearly working environment)

    It's the only way of doing it so that I can access these specific VMs from anywhere. I can LogMeIn to that server as well. The overheads are no more than they would be any other way - the other server is on all the time anyway, it's a server...

    If you knew my overheads when things are running at full tilt here you'd collapse. Thankfully I am able to keep it running pretty smoothly with reduced resources and keep the overheads down a bit. That little i5 powered server being on all the time and handling file sharing & virtualization is nothing when you consider that the box above it in the rack costs almost £10 to run in a 24 hour period when it's fully loaded with work :eeek:

    Yes, yes and yes! Don't worry, I don't actually work off that ESXi VM, it was an experiment to see if it can be done. I only have a single core low memory Ubuntu server running in it for testing purposes. It works fine, by the way. A bit sluggish and a totally inefficient and pointless way to run it, but I set out to see if it could be done and I got my answer! :thumb:

    I'll post details on how I got the OS X machine running later. It wasn't all that hard, just took a bit of time and some head scratching to get it working well without kernel panics and whatnot. I'm updating it to 10.6.3 as I type this.

    [edit]

    I'm running VMware WS8 on that box, not server.

    I updated my "Justine" OS X VM to 10.6.8 today, as you can see it's currently downloading a few software updates for Java, Safari etc. The "Unknown" CPU is an Emulated Intel dual core processor running on an i3 540 @ 3.5GHz with all the advanced features enabled. The Host machine has 4GB of RAM at the moment but there's an 8GB kit waiting to go in at the weekend when I get a few minutes to do it. I moved it off the i5 box because it was wasted on that hardware and because I need it free for some video encoding this weekend. The VM is zipping along nicely, even with the other dual core, 2GB RAM enabled Ubuntu64 (Sophia) system running alongside it. Productivity++ :thumb:

    In case anyone's wondering, it's at a 5:4 resolution because I run this server's VNC screen on a 19" monitor on my wall most of the time.
