In the U.S., over one million gallons of cosmetics, drinks, and lotions are sold that contain aloe in them per year

The abbreviation Xmas for the word Christmas is of Greek origin. Since the word for Christ in the Greek language is Xristos, which starts with the letter "X," they started putting the X in place of Christ and came up with the short form for the word Christmas

Dipsomania refers to an insatiable craving for alcoholic beverages

The word f**k comes from the Dublin Police force in the 1800's. If someone was found having sexual intercourse with someone who wasn't married to them, they were Found Under Carnal Knowledge, which was abbreviated to a f**k charge.

Not true. The etymology of the word can be traced back to at least the 16th century (the OED cites a poem from 1503), probably originating from old Scandinavian dialects or Middle English.

Your Dublin theory is a "backronym", which is an acronym whose component words are chosen specifically to make up an already existing word.

    Ah, f**k.

Here's another sexual fact/story. A Japanese couple were very shy, and had sex for the first time after being married for 14 years. They found it so, er, exhilarating they both suffered from heart attacks and died.

If you perform a DNS lookup on google.com, the server address is actually translated into 1e100.net - which is the definition of a googol (10^100)

The most common form of assassination in Feudal Japan was to wait in the latrine for the dignitary to come "do their business," whereupon they would stab them in the junk with a yari, or long spear. I use the term yari for spear to differentiate from naginata, a more halberdlike spear that was viewed as partly a woman's weapon. Both would fall under the Japanese definition of spear.

Kissing can aid in reducing tooth decay. This is because the extra saliva helps in keeping the mouth clean

There was an article on Radio 4 the other week when they were talking to the self-styled "Literal Czar" who is on a crusade to stop the misuse of the word "literally" - where it's proper use is as the opposite of "figuratively", rather than "really", which is what its current use appears to be.

As part of his crusade, he has travelled (literally) from A (in Sweden?) to B (Iowa, US I think) and visited Hell in Norway. While he was in Hell, he saw that it was frozen over, he played snowballs in Hell, met the neighbours from Hell, and so on.

This fact came up as part of a normal discussion at work today:
