Friggatriskaidekaphobia is the fear of Friday the 13th.

The term 'bug', when referring to computers or software, dates back to when computers were huge, hulking machines that took up entire rooms. Moths and other flying insects would wander into the machinery and get caught in sensitive parts, causing errors.

    A Jellyfish is 95% Water!

Women blink twice as much as men.

When a male penguin falls in love with a female penguin, He searches the entire beach to find the perfect pebble to present her. And when he finally finds it, he waddles over to her and places the pebble right in front of her. Kind of like a proposal.

Play Doh was originally used to clean wallpaper.

And urine is a very good cleaning agent, and was used to keep their togas brighter than bright!

Human and animal faeces and urine were used in the tanning process, and was collected from the streets and houses by night soil men (or the delightfully named "gong farmers") - this is why tanneries were very unpopular places and were often situated outside the town limits.

That's not even close to the first recorded incident of the word bug. Engineers used the term long before the advent of computing. Thomas Edison spoke about 'bugs' in computer circuits in the 1870s.

At best, that particular incident (in IanW's post) of finding a moth trapped inside a relay of the Harvard MKII can be credited it with popularising it, but it's not where the word bug comes from.

The lightsaber sound made during the Star Wars movies was actually made by placing a microphone next to a metal slinky while the slinky was moving.

Princess Diana had her navel pierced - and fitted with a 2.8-carat diamond stud - just a few hours before her fatal accident.

If you eat lots of carrots, you'll start to turn orange.

Due to a newly passed law (in the US), anything with two tablespoons of tomato sauce is now classified as a vegetable. This include pizza.

In the Harry Potter universe, Hogwarts School's Latin motto is "Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus", which translated to English means "Never tickle a sleeping dragon".

Shakespeare never spelled his name the way we spell it now. In fact, he has spelled his name differently up to 60 times, sometimes multiple different ways in one document. This we know from Bill Bryson's "Made in America", as well as the original plays of his (which I, admittedly, have not seen).
