Hello bit-tech community. I am back after a long time. I went back to drawing board because i faced many challenges during my build progress and i decided to drop the aluminum case and go for an steel since its cheaper and easier to work and weld. I am aware that steel is going to add weight to the whole project but i dont really care if the case weights +-5 Kgs. So after a long time here is the first photo. I have redone the whole frame and now i am at the welding phase. I hope i am gonna work on the following days since i have a lot of free time at the moment. Cheers Iraklis
Major update today. I finished welding the case. I can say that welding steel is a lot easier than welding aluminum. The overall result came out pretty good and the quality is a lot better than my first try with the aluminum. Hope you like my progress so far. Cheers Iraklis
Given that you restarted all over from scratch I'll reconsider the case stands. I find their look a bit flimsy matched with the imposing case they hold. But it's only my opinion, you are the boss! Compliments for the decision to restart. I guess it has been a hard one. Big cojones. Waiting eagerly for updates Ciao
Hehe i am also happy that i am able to mod again. This obstacle will be the last one i think and i hope that i manage to complete the project this time I know exactly what you mean about the case stands. As i said these were the stands from my old Cosmos S case. Using them in this project was a quick decision without much though. Although that wasnt the final form of the stands i decided to drop this route and take completely different approach. Now back to work. I made some new pieces today in my bender. Working with steel is actually better than aluminum since there are more ways to correct a mistake. Cheers Iraklis
Good call not using the cosmos feet. Something like a pedestal base would look cooler. Like a small bit of 1/2" steel in the back welded to a really thin sheet for a foot.
To be honest i dont have an idea how the feet are going to look. A strong candidate though is the feet of a corsair 780t
Welcome to the ride. Now here my latest update photos. I have been really busy today and made some progress. The case is starting to take shape and its getting really challenging. I made a templete from cardboard to check how the final result is going to look. I also made some progress with the radiator holders. This is not the final shape. I need more cuts to complete the radiator cutout. Hope to like my progress so far. Cheers Iraklis
I was wondering if anyone knows a good quality sleeving material. I just noticed that http://en.mdpc-x.com/ is closed at the moment. Even though i never worked with MDPC-X i know that its the best possible quality. Soo.. any alternatives? Cheers Iraklis
Today i had some free time to work with my radiators brackets. To bee honest it was a nightmare. I strongly advice NOT to make your own brackets is you want to keep your sanity. I think with a bit sanding we are okay And a quick test fit on the case, i think the result is very good Cheers Iraklis
Today i came up with an easy, cheap and fast way to drill the radiator holes in the radiator brackets with zero chance of mistake. The only thing you need is some masking tape and you are ready to drill! After you mark the holes on the radiator you transfer the tape to the bracket and you drill on the marks ! EASY!!! Cheers Iraklis
Double progress post today. I drilled the holes on the radiator brackets weld em on the case and made a test fit of the radiator. The temperature is starting to drop and it was so cold today to the point i stopped feeling my fingers Cheers Iraklis
Thank you for your kind words. I have been talking with some sponsors. I dont know if they accept in the end but they look very interested... Fingers crossed !!! Cheers Iraklis
I had some time today to make the piece i need to close the left side of the case. It was surprisingly tricky to make it, since i wanted to fit inside perfectly. After some welding it sits perfectily in the case. Note the slight disotrion on the right of the case isnt bended metal but distorted camera lense... Cheers Iraklis
