    That's got to be the most absurd product name ever. Well, maybe not ever, but pretty damned close. Anyone else feel Nintendo got taken over by crack smoking hippies?

    This isn't the first time this has happened..like...the following

    Nintendo Dolphin ---> Nintendo Gamecube
    Windows Longhorn -> Windows Vista

    Personally, I think the project names for all 3 (Vista, GC and Vii) are all better than the end result, but hey, people are obviously stupid :wallbash:

    It really will have piss poor sales. :p

    As someone said, If the name makes you cringe why in the hell will anyone buy it. Just imaging walking into GAME on release and asking to have a Wii.
    Seriously. It puts me off buying one in all honesty. I think i'll just pronounce it Vi (v-eye), I cant type phonetics but it makes more sense though I feel it would be better off sticking with "Revoloution"

    I can however understand the marketing as "we" refers to a group of people and makes you assume that its a group players console.

    That is the worst reasononing ever - it's like they changed the local Boy Scout Council name from Robert E. Lee (which it had been since like the dawn of time) to Heart of Virginia so they didn't prevent one single child from joining because of it's "racist" name.

    Balogna! Revolution was a good name Wii makes no sense at all, "so no one will feel isolated by their language etc" yeah well a playstation is still a playstation and an XBOX is still and XBOX, AMD is AMD, and Intel is still Intel, why would you need to go from a decent name to something else to prevent "language barriers"

    Why not call it the "NintendO RLY?" in honor of this guy...

    Seems as rational as "Wii" I really liked the name "Revolution"

    Can't really see myself anouncing in the pub that it's back to mine for some Wii action. Still, it's not that bad a name. Erm. . OK maybe it is.

    Much easier for our oriental cousins to pronounce than rerrorushun.

    It's better than Peter Moore's explanation of the name "360"

    Hold on, let me find it...

    EDIT: Eh, I can't find it. Basically he goes on about lucid dreams and how the circle is a symbol of life and all kinds of BS. It's on IGN if someone else wants to look for it themselves

    For all the hype the machine's had it's gonna stay the Revolution for a lot of people. Still, I'm lookin forward to invitin the lads over to play games on my wii.

    nintendo's strategy for GC and rev ( I refuse to call it Wii) seems to be so ostrasizing to the hardcore or even average gamers. They seem to want to include everyone but at the expense of the already instilled market base they have. The same thing happened on the GC, they had the kiddie lunch box design and swiss army knife controller for kids. Also there seemed to be a lack of the hardcore type of games you saw on the ps2 and xbox. (RE series being the one of the few exceptions) the point remains they seem to want to make this next console the everyone console and us hardcore gamers are gonna get a watered down experience.
    I don't want to see nintendo or this console flounder, and some of my favourite games and franchises are from nintendo, but do I have to wade through bubblegum, unicorns and lollipops to get to anything with sustanance. Will there be any good, standard fighting game the way us oldschool guys like it with the nun-chuck controller. how will this affect smashbro's?

    in conclusion the name Revolution was really good, and abrv's to Rev just fine. Wii just annoys me and my revolutions will be getting a new paint job
