What.... Wii? Great.

I say if they really want that name then have it but at least call it something different in Europe/The US.

Im sure they wouldnt name it something that sounded liking having a piss in Japanese so why force it onto us. Just makes Nintendo fans even more embrassed to say they've bought a Nintendo console.

I see the toilet jokes already forming in peoples heads.

This name is terrible. The console would be better being called something like "Super happy fun game box" or something totally japanese schoolgirl like that.

 

Ok, ill admit that 360 explanation was kinda lame. Actually, very lame however its not about the reasoning behind the name. Its the name itself. Nobody stops to laugh at the reasoning behind the 360 branding but you can bet people will stop to laugh at a name that sounds like wee.

Ninty's biggest market is children/teenagers, what is a 10 year old going to think when he reads The Nintendo Wii. Revolution just sounds better and will grab alot more attention, people will want to find out what the revolution is.

Seriously, some of you just need to grow up. Most of you were on the same track when the controller was first shown and later changed your tune. If you base a console soley on it's name then frankly, you shouldn't be gaming at all.

 

In series "WHAT THE **** DID WE DO WRONG" Wii=Revolution ORO? I think I'll go get my baseball bat, and fly straight to Japan and kill the guy who invented the name Wii.

 

I think this is a little different to the controller. That was questioned because it was so different (yes ok there was the vibrator joke but I'll ignore that ), eventually its been accepted because people are now interested enough to want to find out if it really works.

The name Wii however may work in japanese but cannot translate into english. The word is hard to guess how to pronounce if you havn't heard it out loud because i doesn't have an e sound even if ii does. Second, the word has negative connotations which is gonna make this really hard to market without it becomming a laughing stock. Imagine the TV ad.

I think they should stick with revolution for the western market and can keep wii for themselves. We like to have recognisable words when naming things and the brand would have much greater respect than being called a piss. Even "we" sounds too pretentious.

Admittently, I didnt read all the comments on the thread - but I havent seen anyone say "I wont get this console because its name is stupid". However, Ive seen a lot of people say "this name is rediculously dumb".

I'm sure people are for the most part smart enough to realize there isnt much in a name - however, theres no denying its a poor one.

 

I won't get one because the name is stupid (which it is), I won't get one because it's a console.

wii? WTF???? make like sega did with "mega drive" when it got renamed "genesis" in the USA.

in Portuguese wii reads your "e", even wi reads "e" because the W is not read.

i would love to see SEGA role out another console, a new cool beautifull console with lots of games, power and conectivity like the dreamcast but in black like the genesis2 and a radical name and beet the crap out of every console out there.

I just looked at this thread and wasnt dissappointed. I havent bought a console since my 64 because there isnt a console game I want to play. The only games that I want to play that are on a console are also on computer too, nintendo has SS brothers, mario cart, ect. But its still kind of a poor choice for a name and its a little late for april fools day.
