First lets get the name thing out of the way...THE RIG... After designing the front acrylic panel (which you will see in few) I realized that it resembles the front end of a large diesel rig. So it stuck with me…”RIG” The purpose of THE RIG is to be a small LAN game server. Incorporated into it will be a 16-port switch, 14 inch LCD monitor and a wireless keyboard/mouse combo. It will only have one cord in the back and that’s for its 110volts. All motherboard connections will be done inside the all-custom aluminum chassis. So with this in mind, lets start at my workshop and hack some aluminum. My tool box from the days of being a mechanic… Miter saw with metal cutting wheel…Makes cutting so much easier. Lots of aluminum pieces…Kinda like a jigsaw puzzle. A shot of how the corners will join. All corners getting drilled, tapped, countersunk ect…. A shot of one corner done, seven more to go… Decided to tap some corners to see if my measure 3 times cut once idea worked…It did. I wont bore you with me connecting each corner…one was enough!!! The only thing pre-fab about this cube was the panels. I managed to get my hands on some aluminum side panels that no longer had homes (how sad). Well they have a home now. I had to cut into the cube chassis for the panel lock tabs. After all locking tab holes were cut, the panels were test fitted. I Received a large amount of the goods needed to proceed with “THE RIG” Pictured below::: 2 80mm rads 2 UV 80mm fans (not sure if they will be used) 16-port unmanaged switch Wireless keyboard/mouse combo 14” LCD (already had that) Enermax PSU 10ft of clearflex Also received my solid black acrylic for the front panel. See why I picked the name now??? I have a good idea of how everything is going to lay out inside but because nothing is concrete at this point…its on a need-to-know basis. The LCD however is kind a self-explanatory. I decided to to a test fit of the LCD. That’s all for now folks…Check back soon for more updates.
