Originated in Australia, but possibly time we in the UK adopted the same attitude!! Australia - The Right to Leave Our Country - YOU Have the right - the right to leave ! After hearing that Sydney did not want to offend other cultures by putting up Xmas lights, the State of South Australia changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered. This prompted this editorial written by an Australian citizen, published in an Australian newspaper.
thats not promoting hatred, its just common sense and tbh i agree with just about everything he said i have no problem with immigrants, but it takes the piss when they expect everyone else to change because they dont want to
i have no problem with what it says but i dont think that these forums are not the right place to be discussing these views as it allways leads to people fighting or saying something that they might regret.
I agree 100% to what Monkey200SX posted. If you want to live in a country, then be prepared to give a bit, I'm not sure about the authenticity of the stories posted in the original post, but things like that seriously take the piss
i posted this in serious discussions as i feel that is the best place for it. Atanum141, are you saying that we should ignore what is going on in our societies, in our papers etc because thats basically what you have said. this is an issue that is in our papers daily, on the TV all the time and affects our lives. if it was being derogitory to one race/religion/colour or crede i'd agree with you but its not. if you read carefully you will see that its not aimed soley at immigrants but at the governments letting this happen, its one rule for the traditionally English and one rule for other the imigrants/asylum seekers. the rules in this country are to lax and WE are paying for it. if i went to a muslim country i would not be allowed to drink alcohol in public, or eat pork, my G/F would have to cover up not to offend the local people, i would have to adjust as im the visitor to their country, I would have to adapt to their way of living if i wanted to stay. so why cant they do the same here. if someone asked to come in to your house because it was cold out side you'd let them in(as your a good samaritian and you like to help people) and said person pee'd in the centre of your living room, ate all your food and drank all your beer with out asking and said that he doesnt like the colour of the walls because it offends his religion and you must change them now cos you are opressing his religion (a adult)(and a bit extreme) you wouldnt be happy and you'd kick them out, but if they said "thats what we do in our house and thats how we like it", would you think "well that makes it ok and i'll do it" the answer is no!!!
I do agree with a lot of the first post, each country has it's own culture and history, and the world is now a changing place but when people choose to live in a country other than that of their birth they should embrace that countries laws and culture, the country should not change to suit the new arrivals. On one note though, religion and state should always be seperate, never the twian shall meet. If I go to live in Texas, I won't be expecting them to change their gun laws because I come from a country that has different laws. I would be fully aware of the laws and culture of the area and do my best to fit in, I would still retain my own identity but also embrace that of my newly adopted home.
Im not saying as its acceptable but im saying that not everyone is like that but as the human condition likes to paint people with different opinions and predjuice(sp?) alll im saying is that its a touchy subject...and many people have some differences that might confilct others...that is all. My parents came to the uk in the 70's....and they have adapted well into this society..and are honest hard working people who work for the government.but i know there are others specifically in a certain religion that MUST only have it their way and nothing else. this i find unexceptable...as many many other religions have adapted to fit in their western lives around their culture. If they moan about this so much then its best that they go back, or even stir up hate within a country that is giving them benifits arnd such other things. they are taking the money that my parents worked for.and yet they have the nerve to say such slanderous things.A very stupid religion with full of double standards..and idiots running around claiming that its their way or the highway.
This is hardly a new point, it's been raised all the time in the immigration debates. It would be nice if this opinion was backed up with examples where immigrants have changed a country's society in significant ways. It sounds like people are don't actually know what they are complaining about.
Red cross: all christmas decoration in all sotres banned, Christmas Cards baned from having anything religious on. Some Schools: nativity plays banned due to religious reasons even if there is less then 5% of the schools population that is not in favour with this. Some towns: Nativity plays banned (adult) but town centres shut down for Chinese New Year celebrations, Ramadam ETC and christmas decoration kept to non religious type. Employment: Muslims are alowed time off to pray to (sorry for not knowing i dont mean to offend) but does not get extra working time because. i smoke and have to do and extra 30mins a day to cover my *** breaks. Dress code, Turbins in some areas of employment ie construction sites are not approiate head wear and are a big heath and safety concern, if you ask a person wearing a turbin to remove it and adorn the approiate head wear they will refuse because its their religious right to wear it, and it you ask them not to come on site they will use the raceist card.
-Where it is Illegal to fly a \St. George cross as it is deemed racist. -Where it is frowned upon to celebrate Christmas, but ok to celebrate Ede, divali etc. (Name your festival) -Where photo identity is pushed aside for personal clothng preference. (As I understand it, it is not a religious necessity to wear full headdress for Muslim women. So they must do it by choice. So they can take it off for photo ID right? They wouldn't let me wear shades in a Driving License photo cos I think I'm g0th as fcuk, right?) -Where neighbours CELEBRATE 9/11
I didn't read the entire thread, only the first post, so excuse me if I say something allready mentioned. First, Maybe this isn't the perfect place for this sort of discussion (this = this forum, not under the sub Serious Discussion) but it's a thing that lives under us... These are the things that annoy people. My opinion is: Our country, our way of life. If you wish to live here, you must adapt to our way of life. They don't have to give up their identity, that I didn't mean, but in the society they have to behave "normal" (=like the majority). I personally find it quite annoying in school that I have to take of my hat in class, but muslims can keep their headdressing on... It's just not fair for us. Religion is something you have to practice at home or in a church, temple, whatever... not in PUBLIC What I hate the most is the way Muslims force their religion upon us, and don't allow anyone to not share their belief. In the Netherlands 2 persons (1 Politician and 1 Director) have been killed because the were "anti"-Muslim. Ok, their oppionion was quite hars, but we do live in a world where there's freedom of speech, don't we? But, I think the Muslim community has to turn inwards first, I don't think it's right that they supress females,... That is not something of the 21st Century... I think the Muslim religion is out-dated, and not before it respects the seperation of religion and politics, acknowlidge other beleifs, and live by the "everyone is equal" stands, I will never acknowledge the Muslim religion But, I want to note, that's my opinion, I don't care if you share it or not, and I won't go in discussion with anyone over it, because that is the start of a flame wars wich nobody benifits from
Isn't this what the British National Party have been campaining for since their formation but have been coming under fire for it?
I wholehearedly agree with the OP, and disagree with atanum's objections. However, I didnt like the way one poster seemed to link this with muslims... The OP was about ALL immigrants regardless of race/colour/creed. So yes, this applies to Muslims, as indeed it applies to Aussies, Chinese and French....etc... Ok, it especially applies to the French! Is it discriminatory/racist to ask this of our immigrants? Yes, if it only applies to some, no if it applies to all. Unfortunately, our racial discrimination laws are too heavily biased towards minorities. A noble sentiment but badly implemented You do not need to harass or offend to fall foul of the racial discrimination laws, the 'victim' needs only to feel harassed or offended - There is no test of reasonableness. So although we might disagree with the PC brigade ruining our Christmas hols etc, some of them are only doing it because they think it will make them less vulnerable to litigation. Equally, if other religious or cultural festivals were celebrated but not traditional English/christian ones, you have a good case to argue discrimination (against white/english/christian people). However, there is zero milage in this in the courts. That said, we (as a nation) are still too often bigoted, so you cam hardly blame the law-makers either...
That was aimed at me (and No hard feelings for it , because you were correct) So I'll try to explain why I'm so "inspired" by muslims. (altough I said that I wouldn't do that) So, I live in Belgium, a cross country for many immigrants that want to go the the UK (their holy land for some reason...) But a lot of immigrants stay over here... I'm am proud member of numerous organisations (non religious nor political I must note) and from there on I speak from the things I noticed there (no scientiffically proven facts, just my observations). 99% Of the people that expect everyone to adopt to their believes are Muslim. And I know why... It's written in their religion... (Djihad or something... don't know what or how exactly, nor do I care...) The Holy War... In Antwerp we have a huge Jewish community, they live there for many decades, they leave everyone alone, they have their own religion, but they don't force it upon you. And now recently (5-10 years) there is an increasing number of Muslims who go and live in Antwerp... They live there and expect everyone to follow there religion... There even have been numerous (documented) assaults by Muslims on Belgian females because they dress too sexy, and they are offended by it... And this is just one example And even more personal, I live (together with my mum) in a rental house where 2 families live. We (me and mom) have the downstairs floor, the other family has the upstairs. The house is made so that we don't interfere with eachother, have separate doors and stuff... And our neigbour is a Muslim (from Marocco) He's 65 years old, hasn't worked a day in his life, allways lived over here on wellfare (he came here 15years ago). When he moved in (we lived there allready) we invited him in for a meeting. I guess it was his 2nd or his 3rd scentence, and he mentioned he couldn't believe it that my dad allowed her to get a divorce... We were shocked and terminated the conversation in a polite way. Because we live down and he lives up, the rules of the house (made by the landlord) are that we have the right for the garden (we pay extra for this). 1 week after he moved in he put his Satilite dish right in front of my room's window, guess he couldn't miss Al-Zjazeera or something. That wouldn't have been a problem, but he didn't ask a thing, and when we complain about it, he doesn't understand.. The landlord has told him several times that he has to remove it, but he refuses. Now a fast forward to next spring. We went on a springbreak (A week) and when we came back he removed 15m² of my mother's flowers and made his private garden full of vegtables... Quite frustrating, if you know the price of her flowers... Fast forward again, about a year later: He went on vacation to his homeland, and "bought" a wife, a 38year old female. She came back with him and now she too lives on welfare... And as a cherry on the pie, she gets beaten up 2-3times a week by him, because she isn't living up to his expectations... When he leaves the house he locks her in... She's a prisoner in her own house... Morale of the story: He thinks he can do everything and we just have to adapt to him Sorry, but all this has lead me to the point that I think the Muslim religion is outdated, and should either be adapted to this century, or be banned...
this is what i think should be done.......i cant wait till the 3rd world war starts.....im gonna go straight off 2 india and fight for them and kick pakistans & bangladesh ass.... but thats just my opinion/thoughts.
Have you ever heard of this little place called Northern Ireland? They've been blowing each other up in the name of "christianity" for decades. A tiny minority of Muslims who make a nuisance of themselves does not mean that the religion should be banned... You clearly know nothing about the religion, because if you did you would realise that Islam is no further "outdated" than any other of the world's religions. In fact, pretty much the only thing that's outdated around here is your sad, pathetic, attempt at justifying your bigotry...Your neighbour claims benefit and beats up his wife so Islam should be banned? I didn't realise that particular problem was limited to Muslims... Sam
may i say something? your all wrong. this is just political correctness with a religious/national twist. its not immigrant based. you can find 100 examples of it being immigrant based and i can find you 100 examples of pc effecting people who originate from the country. just because someone has picked out examples aimed at non christian's does not mean there arnt ones against christians
Yeah, yeah, yeah... and a friend of a friend of mine. Look, if you are going to mention examples, mention concrete examples. Mention places, companies, news items, not "well, I heard somewhere that someone somwhere...". Glider, in the case of the first at least (Pim Fortuin?) you are quite incorrect. He was shot by a nutter over animal rights issues, not his (sometimes quite unnecessarily offensive) opinions about Muslims. Just because you have unpleasant experiences with one (or a few) people who happen to be Muslim, does NOT make all Muslims b*stards. I could then argue that all white Brits are chavs. That is Racist thinking. And before you continue to carry on about how Muslims come over here to force their beliefs/lifestyle on us, I suggest you crack open a few history books and read up on the crusades and our illustrious colonial past. I'm with dom and Uncle Psychosis here. I would further advise people to really think about their statements quite carefully, because moderators are watching this thread and freedom of speech does not equal freedom of ********.
