Mario or Sonic? Base your choice taking both into account: 1. who's a 'cooler' character 2. who's got the better game(s).
Well its obvious that both are awesome as hell, but Mario has got to take it. The sheer number of excellent games that Mario has graced is unsurpassed by ANY character from any franchise. Super Mario Land 1 - 3, Super Mario World, Mario 64, Galaxy 1 & 2, Paper Mario series, Mario & Luigi GBA/DS series, Mario Strikers, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, GB Mario series. And these are just the ones that I consider excellent. Sonic has 1 -3 + Knuckes, Sonic CD and Sonic Adventure 2. Although I definately liked the Sonic cartoons better than the Mario ones. I am also ashamed to admit I really loved the Mario film and rented it tons when I was a kiddie :S
Despite my increasing dislike of Nintendo it has to be Mario that takes it. However i would say that the pinnacle of proper mario games is still Mario 3 for me and that if i'm honest i preferred playing Sonic. up,down,left,right,hold a and press start
+1 On the coolness scale a blue hedgehog that runs really fast > a fat jumping plumber. How ever I voted for Mario because of the sheer volum of games he has. Add to that the number of '8 Bit Mario' things that excist, he is clearly the best choice.
Mario. Because his games always stayed awesome. Whereas Sonic went downhill quite quickly when he went 3D Mario went even better.
Sonic. Its just a better concept for a character all round. Mario has become annoying with Nintendo rehashing old IP's over and over again.
sonic is a cooler character, but has had a fair helping of rather rubbish games. so far, i don't think i've played a mario game i don't like. and for that reason, he wins. (plus he has toad, who is totally awesome)
Sonic, sure his latest games haven't been too good but he still is an icon in video games. Plus he has much cooler friends than Mario.
I voted Mario before I read the OP's post... sonic is a much cooler character Mario games are far superior (classic mario games, not spin off games)
I've just sat through all of that. I've not played Sonic for 15 years, I cannot believe how much I remember! Watching the Labryinth Zone made me feel a bit sick again.
Sonic. I did not vote for Mario because I really don't see the fuss about the games to be honest, I can appreciate it's popularity and even that it is a good game and has done well over time, but I just never enjoyed it, I've played loads of the games from Gameboy to Wii......just nothing. Sonic on the other hand, WOW. I must've went though a couple of Master System controllers on Sonic alone. It was totally worth all the taking out and blowing. Also the theme tunes will always be a fond memory.
I just had such a massive attack of Nostalgia i've gone and bought a Sega Master Sytem from eBay! This is going to be the best £15 i've spent in a while
