There's been a good deal of crazy in General lately, so I guess I'll add my own.

The sound of people eating absolutely disgusts me. Even my own eating gets a bit annoying. It hasn't always bothered me so much, but about a year ago it started to really grind on me.

First, I'll hear the sound. It's a little unsettling, but business continues. Then the second chomp, and a little shiver goes down my spine. Another chomp: my skin is crawling all over. And another: I can't eat anymore. My body refuses to chew and swallow. More and more chomps and soon I'm about to vomit and have to leave the room.

That's a bit of an extreme scenario, normally it's just a mild annoyance, but things like baked potatoes, yoghurt, macaroni and cheese, or soup will literally end with me covering my ears or leaving the room. Slurping, sucking foods like that absolutely sicken me to hear people eating them. I don't know why! As I said, it's somewhat of a recent development that was first really discovered during dinner with my parents. Steak and baked potatoes. The smacking sound of them eating the pasty sour cream/potato mix just pushed me into the deep end. Needless to say, I've never eaten with them again when that was served.

The weird thing, to me, is that similar sounding things don't bother me. There's really just about nothing in the world that has ever made me feel sick like that, bar a few rollercoasters. It's only when I know that the noise is coming from some slop in someone's disgusting mouth that it gets bad. I don't get it!

Anyone else in the same boat? :worried:

Wow...I'll have a large bucket of crazy, with some cuckoo on the side :worried:

You should probably see someone about that, if it's actually preventing you from eating. Or buy a dinnertime iPod...

I assume it's not anything to do with the food itself, just the sound? Or is it the goo food turns into?

Not so much the sound of people eating but when I hear the metal of a fork or spoon hitting off of someones teeth when they're eating it drives me round the bend, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I can definitely see where you're coming from though, my flatmate eating a curry = Chunderific.

My sister has this too, the sound of food being eaten drivers her completely nutty! One of my ex's hates the fork on teeth thing too. Personally i'm the complete opposite, I actually dont mind or even like the sound of food being eaten, depending on who's eating it. No idea why but I get this really strange wave of... not sure how to explain it but relaxation or contentedness comes close. Its a little strange to be sure!

I only hate the sound of people who eat/chew with their mouth open.

Every time they go to chew I want to inform them of their mistake, slap the food out of their mouth and force them to start again.

Yeah I have it as well! At first, still living at home with my parents and sisters, it was the sister that started getting crazy, but over the years I just couldn't take it anymore. It got so bad I actually tried to eat at different time and in my own bedroom just to avoid hearing the disgusting sounds. People talking while eating/chewing mouth open are just incredible, I can't understand how they don't get disgusted by that themselves.

I get this as well, though I don't think I have it as bad. Some people are very noisy eaters though, even when their mouths are closed. Like my stepdad. It's the reason I hate family dinners.

I agree. There's a difference between noisy eating and the sound of eating. The latter I couldn't care about. Mastication is as normal as breathing, but people who snort and wrestle with their food as they chew need either more exercise or a lesson in elegance. :(

People who can't teach their kids to eat properly piss me off too. Sit the **** down. Don't talk with your mouth full, tell them HOW to us a knife and fork properly and finish eating before you move. Jeez it's not THAT hard and it's not like you're having tea with the Queen either.

Yeh noisy easting gets me too.. my dad and one of my uncles are particularly noisy and I find it hard to sit at the table with them somestimes. i tend to ram the food down and get up to do the dishes.

Maybe thats their plan all along.

Noisy eating is HORRIBLE. Couple that with out-of-breathness, and it's something I have to deal with quite regularly... *shudder*
