The project which I started to do about ten months ago now is completed. And I am looking forward to hearing your opinion about it. It is only my mouse mod 3.
I am the administrator of the site www.modding.ru
1.My mouse mod was based on Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical, USB+PS/2
2 More than 90 per cent of plastic was cut out.

3 All the details ( including the wheel of scrolling and the buttons) were cast from the stainless steel 18/10 (which is used for medical instruments)Some decorations were cast and soldered.

The mouse mod was decorated by Svarovsky stresses.

The connector USB was cast from the stainless steel too.

The wire is inside the steel casing.

I made a special case of glassy plastic for this mouse mod.
The mouse mod is in the case.

The shining of the mouse and the connector in the dark ( sorry for the quality of the photos because the camera has problems with focus in the dark)

The hand is on the mouse.

How to make the case for the mouse mod.Everything is rather easy.
    You need
    http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q75/Filimon_photo/DSC01596-21.jpg
Then you need to buy some special plastic for mounting works.
    http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q75/Filimon_photo/DSC01605-21.jpg
The case is covered by plastic. It takes me ages to fit the plastic to the case. Then you cut out the handles and the legs.
After that you cut the microporus (soft) rubber according to the shape of the mouse mod.
    http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q75/Filimon_photo/DSC01628-23.jpg
Then you make the shape from the mouse pad ( they are soft and made of cloth)
Then you cover it with velvet.
After that you fix the new handle with stresses to the case.
    Then you change the legs.
    http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q75/Filimon_photo/DSC01734-34.jpg
    Now you have the result.

Nice, but makes me wonder how good is that thing to use in the long run, how is it's ergonomics?

Also, how many hours did you use on this, that kind of precision work doesn't happen over night?

Anyhow, it has to be one of the best mouse mods out there, now we need a case that goes with the mouse :hehe:

Looking forward to seeing what you'll make next.

i hadnt thought about casting anything that was orginally plastic. my college has a foundry that you can take stuff in to make every so often. i might have to take in a few things to cast with aluminium :dremel: .

I agree with Darkend, its a great mod but like how long would it last, is it pretty durable?

It looks like its designed off of a sacred scarab? (type of Egyptian beetle for those who dont know what Im talking about) at least thats what it looks like to me. ^^

My mouse mod is ergonomic enough and it's comfortable to use it.Of course I didn't spend a night to make it.It took me 8 months 5 days a week and 15 min. a day. That's all.
    As for my plans.
I'm going to make the next mouse in hi-tech style.Every detail will be made of steel. You will never guess that it's a mouse.

Can you elaborate a bit on the casting process? I'm assuming that you use the plastic cut outs to get a negative mold and then pour in the stainless? What type of temperatures are you using with the stainless?

Looks really good just would like to know a bit more about the process.
