You all given up in December or what. Just did legs, stomach and crosstrainer and I'm freggin knackered today.
This was a post of mine from March 2013. Weighed myself this morning and I was 76.3kg. That's 10kg (1.57 stone) I've dropped in a little over a year. It's worth pointing out this has been done during one of the most sedantry, inactive, periods of my life, just been simple calorie management. Nothing difficult or time-consuming, just having ball-park figures in my head of what I was consuming each day. Basically, Mon-Fri I'd generally just eat porridge for breakfast, soup and fruit during the day, and have a sensible dinner. Weekends were looser in some regards, sometimes I'd really go for it when doing some baking etc. and eat **** loads of sugary stuff, but if that happened I could feel the over-consumption inside me and just skipped dinner as a result, and it didn't feel like I was depriving myself. I'm definitely leaner, with less spare change around the waist. I don't feel like I've had much muscle loss, and if I went back into doing some strength work I'm confident of easy progress to get some decent definition. Not really chasing anything though, so we'll see if that ever happens, but it's great not to feel lardy any more.
I'm certainly lighter then I was when I started this thread, and I was back on track until halloween, since then I've kinda just gone back to some old habbits. With Christmas coming, I highly doubt I'll have too much success BUT I've set some goals for the new year / have some plans. I WANT to run a 10k. I WANT to join a gym (there is a decent one that is like a 20 minute run, so I can stretch, get my cardio in running to and from the gym, and then work out). I'll go back to cutting out all junk food / pop, etc. and just eating right. Not sure how much I can actually lose in a year so we'll start with small increments, aiming to be 200-210 pounds after a few months or restarting my regime.
20 stone at 6'2" - Dropped to 16 stone in 3 months whilst building muscle mass. In the last month I've up my game taking in 250g of protein a day. With a little help of the USN Anabolic protein shakes. Gained about 1.5 stone in muscle mass in a very short space of time. My weight now is 17.5 stone.
That is an immense change. Well done. I am 13.5 at the moment and want to drop to about 12 stone. I have a holiday in September which I want to get into shape for. I swim daily and run every other day at the moment. Really need to get back into shape, i've been quite lazy about it for a while now.
TG you're really kicking some ass in the gym mate, if you don't stop gaining we're going to have to have your name changed. Well I'm back in the gym again after a week off sick, and damn it feels good. My usual spin, spin, circuits then boxing Sunday to Tuesday again, and boy do I feel it today. 2 minutes solid uppercuts on a sand uppercut bag have left my fingers feeling nicely achy. I also competed in a "gymathlon competition" at my local gym in December and came a very respectable 6/12 (beating quite a few of the VERY respected gym going including one of the personal trainers). Here is what I did: All that in 17:42 and times ranging between 13.58 and 23.31 so I'm very happy. All the guys that beat me have been doing these competitions for a decade plus. But overall I have to say just the atmosphere and pushing myself were the best part, was really amazing. One of my new years resolutions this year is to bench my own weight, which means unless I drop a bit of stomach I need to get 86kg off the bench and currently I am able to do 70kg. So its only a small increase that I have plenty of time to achieve. Fridays heavy session is my first chance to start that.
Good gains, im impressed. Though cardio should also be considered as part of a muscle growing routine as it will help your body to improve its oxygen efficiency when your lifting big weights and getting out of breath. For example I was doing lots of pull-ups/chin-ups last month as their a great compound exercise and I found it hit a plateau; I was getting to the point where I just couldn't do those extra few reps. Once i started running again I was able too push through it. All them muscles need to be fed with good oxygen
Gentle bump anyone? Height: 6'3" & change Weight: 15st 10lbs (starting weight 3 weeks ago 16st 7lbs) This: ...along with a long period of feeling crap because I was eating crap and generally leading an unhealthy lifestyle, motivated me enough to change my diet and start training again. I was reasonably fit and healthy when I was 18. I've honestly been neither since. For the past three weeks I've been on a strict but delicious whole food diet, and have already lost 11lbs. I'm a non-smoker and don't drink much alcohol, but coffee is a serious addiction that I felt I needed to kick (again). I haven't had any caffeine, medication or alcohol for those three weeks, including tea and coffee. I still have about another 11lbs to drop to reach my "target" although I'm not so much aiming for an exact weight as I am wanting to feel fitter and healthier than I have for the past 7 or 8 years. I went for my first run in ages this morning: It's not actually my farthest run ever, obviously Farthest using Nike+ though - hopefully I'll be back to putting in 5-10 mile stints across country by the end of the year
Awesome bud. 15st wow that is light. I'm 6 ft 4 and at 20 stone but I'm trying to pick up weight. Rather do weight than run, admire you guys who run.
Nicely done Uni. I wondered if you'd started running from the purchases thread, because you had some good gear coming in. My missus just got some of the same style shoes and damn they're light. I don't know if you can export it through Nike, but if you can you should join the Bit-Tech strava club. Its currently all cycling, but I will be running more as I have a Tough Mudder in a few months. (Looking at it, its a little bit tricky) In answer to the title of the thread I'm a little heavy at the moment as I've been studying again and have had a crazy busy time. Hopefully get back on the healthy eating soon. Chicken salad for lunch, and lots of cycling over the weekend. Height: 6'0" & change Weight: 13st 0lbs
Good work unicorn! It's amazing how fast the weight can drop off with a healthy diet and kicking the bad habits. I'm 6'4"~5" and was 16st7lbs last year, now i'm 14st9lbs and I haven't maintained my daily exercise after the initial loss & 3 month routine (other than my 5 mile cycling commute), but I hover around that weight +/- 2lbs thanks to the changes in lifestyle. We found that we ate better when we; planned our meals from cook books (allowed us to monitor portions/intake) and ordered shopping online (so you don't have impulse buys). We also saved lots of £'s by cutting out alcohol, take-aways, impulse buys from being in store etc. We still have all the above, just a lot less of it.
Once I get myself straightened out I am going to getting back into the exercise thing. Had to stop when I threw my back out last year and I have not been in a position to get up to anything. Had an x-ray of my spine last Thursday and everything is all over the place, not one straight and true bit in it, 7st weight difference between my left and right sides when standing 'normally' and one leg around 1 and a half inches 'shorter' as I am all twisted over to the left. Once I can get things to a point where I don't have pain walking then I can get back to either running or cycling, you really don't realise how much you twist when moving until it hurts each time you do it. If I can get back to a point where lifting becomes possible again then weights will not be out of the question either. Then I just need to try and sort out the old diet, the problem there being that I have enormous trouble eating veggies, the taste of just about all of them makes me heave, always has done.
I was fast heading for 20 stone too - I think I kicked the bad habits just in time. Had I been spared and continued the same way for a year or two more, I might not have been able to get it under control again. Yeah unfortunately (and unsurprisingly) none of the gear I was wearing 4 years ago fits me any more I had to make do with an older pair of Nike runners this morning because my Free 5's won't be here until Wednesday. I think I'm going to need a warmer top as it was quite nippy before sun up - I was looking at this one which seems well suited. I'll have to see how my gammy knee holds up past the 5 mile mark now compared to a few years ago. I remember running 5 miles one night and not being able to walk without a limp for about a week afterwards. I think it's had long enough to heal now though. Not sure what direction I'm going to go with tracking etc. Nike+ Running is a great app and a friend recommended the RunKeeper app too which she's been using for a few months and does export to Strava. I'll explore and see if I can export the data from Nike+, if not I might switch apps early on and make a fresh start with stats I was impressed with how fast the weight came off this time as well. In 2012 I went on a diet with no additional exercise and lost an average of 1lb per week for 12 weeks. I swiftly put it all back on again though, because I didn't make a big enough change to my lifestyle for it to stick. This time I was able to lose 11lbs in 3 weeks with no additional exercise either and I'm looking forward to strength, stamina and overall fitness gains keeping the diet in place and adding regular training. I've saved a lot of money on takeout, to-go coffee and unhealthy snacks like chocolate bars and crisps. That money saved has been rolled back into healthier alternatives like fruit smoothies instead of tea and coffee, natural yoghurt, nuts and dried fruit instead of chocolate and fresh fruit instead of crisps. I've removed 99% of processed food and refined sugar from my diet and I don't think I've ever felt healthier. I'm eating fresh fish regularly for the first time ever and have substituted potatoes for boiled brown rice 5 days out of 7 in the week. Those are just some of the many changes. It's not one of these "starve yourself" diets - I've been eating delicious, interesting food and looking forward to every meal. [edit] There's an online app for extracting Nike+ Running data from your profile for upload to Strava, so I've joined the bit-tech club
