Still looking lean and mean. Chicken and rice is such a boon... I just cooked a batch of brown rice the other day which helped assuage the guilt of buying almost a kilo of M&Ms. If it's not going to harm me to get an extra couple hundred calories from chocolate, I'm going to keep doing it lol.

I'm back on the wagon again, too. I'd been doing really well - hadn't reached my goal weight, but I could comfortably fit my fist, sideways, between my gut and my trousers. Now the trousers fit perfectly, which... ain't great.

Not going to go quite so hardcore this time around. No calorie counting apps, for a start. Instead I'm just trying to have smaller meals and make better choices - plus limit snacking. Oh, and I'm back to doing the no-food-after-7pm thing, for a 12-hour fasting period each day. Bit more activity, too. I still don't have the time (nor inclination) to do anything properly, but I've started doing the morning's RSS-feed checking on the stepper machine and picking up some dumbbells for a quick 20-set hammer curl when I pass by.

That was turbo rough for me. Went from ~2500 to hard limit 1200 daily. First month was hell but six small meals a day helped

Back in 2022 I was the #5 buyer for sains chunky beef and veg soup... But its tasty

I'm somewhat experienced with longer fasts. I've done a lot of 48hr fasts. My longest has been 96hrs because my acid reflux is so bad when I'm fasting, so I end up quitting due to that most of the time.

I just did another 92hr fast. This one was a "lazy" fast, meaning I ate a few small snacks and was having 2c of bone broth in the evening (90 calories). I was easily under 300 calories a day in total.

But I was feeling off/weird, so I called it yesterday. I lost 8lbs, which was probably 5lbs of glycogen I'll regain quickly, but also probably 3lbs of fat.

I'm debating what to do next. I think alternate-day-fasting might work for me. It'll help cut down on total calories, keep me focused, but will also likely help with the acid reflux issues. The downside will be little/no ketosis and little/no autophagy unless I also do some strong calorie restriction on my eating days (less than 1000 calories).

Not the best data to be working with, but the BMJ has published a study looking into various fasting strategies. TL;DR: Restricted eating periods, alternate-day fasting, and whole-day fasting (which is a weird name, 'cos it involves fasting over multiple consecutive days - like eating what you like for five days then fasting for two) all show a weight loss equivalent to a calorie-restricted diet ('cos... you're restricting your caloric intake).

But, alternate-day fasting (eat what you like day one, nothing day two, what you like day three, nothing day four, and so on) showed better results (slightly more weight loss, lower cholesterol levels) than the other two methods.

The proviso: as I say, it's not the best data and the difference between methods wasn't massive. Looks like good news for the fasters, tho'.

I don't think my 12-on 12-off thing is a long enough fasting period to count, but I don't fancy doing it for longer - and I certainly don't fancy day-on day-off. I'm hungry enough at bedtime now!

Haven't posted here for a while.

Nearly 7kg down this year. Very slow and steady but it's progress nonetheless.

Acne treatment really seems to be doing wonders since that last picture! I've only just realised how much my skins improved! back on the creatine and as usual my heads ballooned into a football again lol, that loose skin above my shorts is the bane of my existence.

Not really into getting toned but i realised in lock down i was into 20stone (127kg ish) and gaining.. i decided to change how i eat/drink l and walk more, i couldnt go to a gym tried once, had a full blown panic attack and never gone back. I struggle with any public places. So ive taken up walking more, aim for 30k a day steps wise. Normally 15-20 miles a day. Not including my time im at work. Proud as today ive hit 14kg slowly getting back down to a weight i was in 2017/18.. still got a dad bod but feel better than i did. Just hate how sweaty i get but thats poor genetics according to the dr..

My hardest thing is food. I struggle to eat consitantly i can sometimes go a day or two without food just liquids.

I think once ive gotten my weight lower ill look at other health options.

Like for progress and impressive step-count (I just hit my goal... of 3,350, that Garmin set as achievable for me(!)) but:
That doesn't sound right, and you might want to ask a doc about that.

So... How are folks getting on with the ol' weight-loss wagon?

I've been managing to maintain my weight of 80kg for a few weeks now at around 2800cals per day, which is very comfortable for me - I'm not super strict with my diet, but I am very active (gym pretty much every morning, plus extra walking, running, and climbing). Sadly there's no "easy out" when it comes to keeping the weight off; you just have to put in the work and be as active as possible.

I prefer a slow cut with a 500 kcal deficit to keep strength. Protein helps a lot. No shortcuts, just consistency and moving enough.

Definitely not losing weight at the mo', but the current med mix is absolutely doing wonders for my blood pressure:

So according to ChatGPT I’m at around 11 - 13% body fat

    The climb to 6% begins

Please, please, *please* do not rely on ChatGPT for measuring body fat. It literally cannot do that. At all. Even slightly. It will not tell you that. It will happily respond in the most statistically likely way to your query, which will look like it is measuring your body fat - but it is not.

If you rely on ChatGPT while cutting fat, there is a very good chance you're going to make yourself ill.

Get one of those four-electrode body composition scales. They're not very good either, but they're a lot better than the stochastic parrot!

Thanks but I have one of those scales already and it claims I’m 30% body fat? Now if you consider I was 30% at 17.3 stone how the heck can I still be 30% at 13.7stone.

If you consider this image for a reference, while the scale would have been correct last year it’s definitely not this year.

I think the only accurate way is a dexa scan and I’m not really interested in paying £125 just to find out.

Reached a tipping point back in March when I literally felt like John Candy whilst trying to play five a side. (56yr old, 18.6.5).
Decided enough was enough and am now down to 15.2.2.
I will admit to Mounjaro assistance for the first five months, it helped massively.
Jog, cycle and walk regularly now at better pace/distance than before and generally feel a hell of a lot better.

I've lost 14kg in the last 3 months. Mainly down to replacing my lunchtime sandwich and bag of crisps with a salad and lean turkey/chicken/ham. Although, to be fair, some of that could be down to the effort and stress of moving house.

Doctor has started me on a low dose (2.5ml) of mounjaro, to stabilise my glucose levels and get me off insulin and metformin, so I expect I'll lose more weight on the coming months.

I hardly eat bread nowadays and I've halved my consumption of rice and pasta, so I hope this habit will stick after the mounjaro treatment and keep me on the path to being less porky.

Love hearing the progress above! I'm intrigued about mounjaro, though. Not something I personally would go for but interested on if there's been any side effects?

I weighed in around 111kg this morning. Lowest I hit this yeah was just under 110kg in July, just before a holiday. My progress this year hasn't been what I wanted in terms of weightloss this year but I'm healthier, stronger, fitter and the disc bulge in my back appears to be back to about 99%. It's also been an incredibly difficult 15 months so any progress is a win.
