Well then, this should be interesting, if not just to try and keep me from dying of boredom!

So you're at your girlfriend’s house for the first week of Easter to spend some quality time with her (before you make the purchase of the holy "new pc" and she doesn’t see you for months). But your geeky lifestyle has left you with a rather bad case of insomnia. So you sit at her computer, no games, not even a mouse (as most non geek girls seem to love there laptops); Just a laptop with a mouse pad and a rather poor "oh so constant refreshing" internet connection.

I start off doing what any self respecting geek would do, plug my 500gb external hard drive into one of the USB ports of the laptop, install Winamp, swiftly add my collection of Orbital, randomize and hit play. So low and behold to pass through these wee hours we have decent music, but what now?

There's always the Bit-Tech forums (of-course) :p . But what about other things you can do? No mouse and being on a laptop means no gaming and a crappy internet connection means no downloading.

So I ask you, fellow readers and lovers of these forums. What can we geeks do when the girlfriend is asleep and you can’t sleep? What fun is there to be had out there at 3am?

Let’s try and fill this thread with fun ideas people, c'mon!

    Regards.

    Caff.

And clear out the cache/cookies/history, porn-wise.

Personally, I'd either "do the bad thing" while she sleeps (please note I don't mean rape, but more, ehm, one-handed pleasure) or gently slap her to "accidently" wake her up and have a, ehm, "conversation" or something.

Look for her underwear and smell it? Look for pictures of ex-boyfriends and mock them? Look for phone numbers of ex-boyfriends, call them and go "haha you suck I'm a-hittin' that now"? Buy a Dance Dance Revolution machine, secretly place it somewhere hidden and have nightly practice?

If all else fails, find your local dealer and get that needle into your arm. It's supposed to be a nice high, especially the first few seconds when you are supposed to see a "flash" and experience an "orgasmic feeling". (Disclaimer: drugs are bad, please don't do that.)

Or, alternatively, get a bottle of vodka and have lonely fun like I often do. There's nothing like MySpace and forums when you're shitfaced! (Like now, so please excuse the retardedness of this post.)

Uh - dude - watch out.... The GF might possibly not appreciate you doing anything to her machine including installing winamp etc.... If you want honest advice, it would be to find a good project log that you haven't read yet and read the whole thing from post 1 to the end. That can usually eat up a few hours without getting yourself into trouble.

Have you read the ammo case project log yet?

True love goes above/over (whatever the correct word is, I'm an immigrant) the installation of an alternative (and most likely better than what she had installed) media player.

The education of the hot (semi-) ignorant is only one part of the geek's almost divine calling!

Maybe defragment her disk(s) while you're at it. Hell, it may even turn her on... "fsck me baby!"-style.

Haha, very stylish gys, very stylish.

Now dont worry, i got the computer and installed everything on it for her, so im allowed to install Winamp ^_^ .

Though a defrag isnt a bad idea, im thinking finding a nice long project log is my favourite so far. Keep up the good work people!

Yeah, project logs are cool. Unfortunately, I am unable to follow them most of the time because of my suggestion above (not the wanking one, though).

If you have time after you finish a log you could try one of them "addictive games" which have been posted in this subforum. The molecule one has got some pretty shapes, and I think I finally understood where the Atomium-shape (some icky building/tourist attraction/symbol of misplaced pride) in my country of origin comes from. It all makes sense now.

Have fun, but don't forget to get enough rest so you will be able tomorrow to show your girlfriend the love she deserves!

(Don't panic, I don't know you or your girlfriend, I don't stalk you or something, I'm just assuming you love this girl :p.)

    thehun.com? :D

There's still games you can play on a laptop with a crappy mouse pad.
    OpenTTD for instance.

Old games in emulators are great as they often require keyboard rather than mouse and don't require much processing power either.

Games where you can pause the action to issue orders (like Baldour's Gate etc) are also an option with a trackpad.

Leaves the option of loads of very enjoyable (and time consuming) games. :)

Try learning Russian, or reed some web comics (see my sig) that would keep you from being bored, or just put you to sleep.

TV Links. Not sure on the legality of it, but it's been around for ages now and is ridiculously handy.

So - out of curiosity - what did you end up doing to pass the time? Did you just fall asleep?

Defrag isn't fun anymore. "in the old days" you could see all those colored blocks getting moved back and forth. nowdays it's just those stupid, thin lines.

Read a book? Orwell's The Road to Wigan Pier is nice and short, and might give you something to dwell on and think about... not that reading project logs wouldn't, of course.

I'd play Counterstrike or STALKER, because my lady loves that ****.

Or I lie in bed coming up with ideas for film stuff at uni. Fun.

pop down to the shed and carefully remove a crowbar,

use this to gain access to a vhite van that takes your fancy,

drive it to your local PA rental place and kindly use your crowbar to empty it of a 10kw system and a 3.5mm to phono adapter,

go back to your gf's house send a chain letter to lots (i mean lots) of people giving details of an all night rave in 2 hours, and it's where abouts. (tell them to bring drinks)

go back to the van taking your 500gb hd and gf's laptop with you,

drive to another rental store and use your crowbar to remove a 12kw generator,

drive to your specified field, turn on your headlights and setup the system, connected to the laptop and setup your playlist,

turn on the hazzard lights to act as disco lighting,

before people start to arrive, phone the police and notify them that there is a bank robbery going on and will require all the units they can get,

turn up the music so your ravers know where the party is,

wait for them to arrive and rave it up.

don't ask how to deal with the after effects
