i got lucky on the amazon marketplace - you could try there. the seller was direct4games - they also have a proper website at http://www.direct4games.com/
(they're a proper business, can't fault their seervice one bit)

unfortunately they've undergone a bit of a renaissance what with the wii coming out, so they're hard to track down for cheap. lowest i've seen recently is about £18

bear in mind the wii looks fugly whatever you plug in on the top - the wavebird has a fairly chunky receiver. so best unplug it when you're not using it to preserve the pristine aesthetics (anyone else think the wii in its wonky stand is one of the most iconic designs in recent times?)

Is there a benefit to buying a points card? You can buy them in the Wii shop channel for £6.99 for 1000, with instant delivery of course.

There is an advantage for the kids/people that don't have credits cards. Sure its £1 more to buy a points card than on the interweb but still handy none the less :)
Along the lines of the grey stand thing.. did anyone else also get a funky clear plastic one for theirs in the box too? It's not listed on the official box contents though.

Out of interest, how is sound handled by the Wii? Does it have dedicated audio outs or headphone sockets, is it just via the component/composite leads?

Its just handled via the composite cable. Unless any other cables other than the standard have a dedicated output then you are pretty much stuck on the cable lenght and stuff.
I know I for one would like an RGB card with dedicated audio outs so I can plug it into my decoder and get the dolby digital II sound.

you mean that round plate thing? it is listed, forgot what it's called, but it's there. possibly the 'wii stand plate' or something. it's to make it less likely to topple over when in the stand.

i think there's some definite potential for some wii stand moddage here. i'm thinking a polished/(brushed?) aluminium effect with a subtle blue glow of LEDs showing through a sheet of acrylic on the bottom.

There's games everywhere on the high streets round here. Shelves full of them. The shortage of consoles has pretty much guaranteed that.

Shame it has to go back in the box for ten days... I was 'testing' it.

Yeah, but they're all empty retail boxes. Not too many stores have all the games to go with them - at least as far as I have found.

Do you get any VIP stars with the console, or just the ones in Wii Sports? I couldnt find any cards in the box but i didn't look too hard.

Yes, you should have a 500 points card for the console!
