not sure as i've not run it in single-channel mode... but if it did improve timings the total bandwidth will be down so results would be worse off yoda.... I'm coming for you
how much would it affect the time as the bandwidth could not be used by the processor or have i missed somethink. and bigz said that ?,?,?,11 timings woked best for one of the dfi boards Ben
Heres mine with most other serives off. Mobo - A7N8X CPU - XP2400+ RAM - 512 TwinMOS PC3200 2.5-3-3-8 Cooling - Water
Okay, this is just getting weird. Why the crap does my 3000+ (333mhz FSB), A7N8X Deluxe, and 512 MB of Patriot <-Brand name! PC 2700 RAM fair so HORRIBLY!? Im starting to think that a 400 Mhz FSB makes quite a bit of difference. I tried to overclock the main clock frequency from 13 to 13.5, and it wouldnt boot into windows. It gets an error message and then spontaneously reboots, requiring me to change the settings back to normal in order to able to use Windows. Anyone got a clue what this is? Im starting to think that 1-the ram is bad at this, (Timings are 2.5,3,3,7. What does this mean?) and 2, my Power Supply isnt supplying stable voltages for Overclocking the processor to a higher frequency or something. Im a complete noob when it comes to overclocking, so if anyone can help me out with these oddities, it would be a big help! On a side note, I OCed it to a 3200+ (200x11) And it was slower than before, getting only 254 KB/S
When you clocked it to 200*11 was the RAM running in sync. You would get best performance that way even if you couldn't get it to 200.
Right. Go into bios and then under the memory section select user defined. There's then an option to hcange the memory frequency. Change that to 100% and it will run at the same speed as the FSB you set. Now just clock up the FSB as normal and the RAM will run at the same speed, thus giving you better performance. Up the FSB a few mhz at a time to see what your memory is capable of.
The A7N8X Deluxe is not a good OCing board... I can only go through presets, unless ASUS has a BIOS flash that changes that. Otherwise, I only have the FSB speeds of 100, 133, 166, and 200 MHZ to choose from. Multipliers are also ony 8-14 in .5 increments BTW, how do you flash your BIOS?
If you change the sytem performance to 'user defined' you should be able to change the FSB 1mhz at a time. To flash the bios I use the ASUS Update that came on the driver CD. I've not had a problem with it and I've flashed it countless times. The best BIOS's are the Uber ones that you can find on the forumsNForcersHQ I'm using the Uber 1004D. It's supposed to be the best for overclocking. Oh and if you have a rev2 board it will overclock far more than the r1.04 (which I have )
Indeed I do have a Revision 2 board Erm, I dont know If I would trust a BIOS from a place I never even heard of. Gah, if only I knew what the hell I was doing better Oh well, I'll give it a shot in a little while
You could always go to the ASUS site and download the 1004 BIOS form there. With a rev2 you shouldn't have any problems geting to 200 FSB its only if your RAM will go that far.
probaby should also get a better heatsink/fan, considering Im running with the stock one, with no thermal transfer paste Otherwise, I dont think my el-cheapo cooling will get me much further, considering with five case fans, a PSU fan, and CPU fan, its running at 50 degrees Celcius.
"errors found: Yes" surely that shouldn't be a valid score? it's got to be an error free result imho. No point decompressing something if it's all corrupt when you've done so. Nice score none the less
Damn I never even noticed that I was tired, it was late, I'd done 3 windows installs (trying out server2003, screwed up hard drive, needed reformat) ermmmm, trying to think up more excuses, I'll get back to you.
