Just a heads up, The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition has now been released with loads of extra content, see here for details: http://www.gog.com/news/release_the_witcher_2_assassins_of_kings_enhanced_edition But also for those that have already purchased it, either boxed or via steam, you can register the serial on gog for a free 'backup' version and download the full edition + all the extras! http://www.gog.com/en/witcher2/backup/
I think the Steam version got updated anyway? At least it's telling me I already own it and I now have a map and a bunch of mp3s! OK, Scratch that - when you run the game in Steam it then launches the downloader which will download the 12.25GB patch (assuming you didn't choose any additional voiceovers). Thank god for cable! I haven't played the game in ages - might be worth another visit as I never bothered to finish it!
the witcher 1 and 2 have a special place in my gaming heart. as do cd project red for making truely good games that arn't rammed to the brim with intrusive drm.
Maaan I can't believe you guys got the game via Steam. You got all the special extras on GOG (own by CD Projeckt, maker of the game), plus DRM free. It's like installing games, like back in the very old days.. no serial number, no nothing.. just run the setup, and enjoy. Also, i think, that they deserve full game price in their pocket. Oh well. Next time check out GOG.com The reason why EE is so big (same story for the Witcher 1), is t7hat you are downloading essentially the game again, plus extras.
The new intro was incredible - I can see where the 12Gb came from! It seems to run smoother than before too - although it has been rather a long time since I played it last - my memory aint as good as it once was!
I've heard a lot about The Witcher and all the rest and I want to get into a little more PC gaming (aside from EVE online and when I finish my first build BF3 and such) so would the first Witcher game run on my current rather dated system? Specs: CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13GHz MoBo Elitegroup Computer System Ltd 945G-M3 (Socket 775) GFX 1024MB ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series (ASUS) RAM 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 @ 199MHz Running on XP 32-bit SP3
Should run without problem. Be sure that the Witcher 1 has all the updates, including Enhanced Edition, to get the best performance, and of course, bug fixes. Wither 1 runs on my laptop at medium-low (native res), which is slower than your computer: -> Core 2 Duo P8400 2.2GHz (remember that laptop CPUs are slower than desktops, even if the "GHz" are the same, same for GPU's) -> 5400RPM 160GB 8MB cache -> Quadro NVS 160M 256MB (equivalent to a Geforce 9300M, but with 256MB dedicated memory instead of shared) -> 4GB of RAM DDR2 800MHz -> 1440x900 (14inch, 16:10) -> No Overclock (Dell Latitude E6400) The Witcher 2 (I haven't tried with Enhanced Edition), but it didn't run well, at the most lowest settings, even when I overclock my laptop GPU to near double speed (I think it's because my memory speed of my GPU is too slow, and that I can't really overclock due to a lack of any heatsink on them.)
Thanks GoodBytes, you are definitely one of my favourite people on here. (monitor guide is a godsend) I'll probably download it tomorrow night then, I'll let you know how it goes!
Thank you very much! Comments like these is what keeps me going. Also, thank you for letting me know how it goes for you, when you'll try it.
My Steam seems completely knackered, will load all the pages in the store and stream the video previews, but insists I have no network connection and it can't sign into my account or add games to my basket. WTF?
It just converts into whatever it would be in pounds. It's just that more people can comprhend how much it is in dollars than in zloty.
The Steam version has all the bonus content as well. Library>tools>The Witcher 2: Bonus Content. GOG version does lack DRM mind.
Is this important? I've just started downloading the GOG version because Steam hates me for some reason.
